Smoke and CO2 in one talking-smart detector

It's a great product. If it does alarm it tells you which one is alarming (if you have more than one). They talk to each other on their own secret network, so they work even if your internet goes down. And the wired unit has a battery backup if the power goes out. It even does self checks. Oh, and it's a night light.

So far so good. Purchased a few because I installed a pellet stove and didn’t entirely trust myself. Definitely a nice upgrade to the home! Integrates into the Nest app which kinda sucks because Google is like halfway switching their gear to the Home app.

Bought 6-7 of these, and 1 stopped working. The idea and app are great but Nest reliability for me has been subpar. So far a Nest Smoke alarm stopped working, a Nest detect sensor and the Nest+Yale lock. Waited for hours in online support only to be asked scripted questions that did nothing.

This is the first of a few I will be buying to replace the remaining of my single smoke alarms. I feel much safer knowing I have a multi purpose device that keeps me up to date on its status. I really like the light that is built in and comes on when it senses motion: it was very easy to install and set up. It has a very nice stream line look and it doesn't even look like a life safety device. I recommend that those who have not looked into this device take the time to read about it and it's reviews. I bought this for the safely of my family. It's really amazing to feel a high level of comfort, knowing we are protected when we are home and I know what is going on in our home while we are away. With so many deaths caused by carbon monoxide and smoke, why would you even think twice about installing a device that actually keeps you up to date on its status. Funny that having typical smoke alarms I would not replace the batteries every year, with my new smoke alarm this will be something you will never forget. Even though you are paying a bit more for this smoke/ carbon monoxide alarm device, I realize that it's a investment for the protection of your family and your property. One of the things that convinced me of making this purchase was the all the information it provides you on its own, being connected to your wifi. It tests itself daily and I can. Always check my app and feel assured that it's up to date, it will automatically update itself as they make changes to its software. I feel that with this state of the art life safety device, once everyone knows about its ability it will become a typical house hold item. Based on this purchase I have.l decided to make sure, that the safety of my family, becomes a priority in my life. Once it's installed and it is operating, it becomes part of your home and part of your family. It talks to you and keeps you informed of its condition. You will notice that you get a better nights rest knowing its protecting you.

Great Peace of Mind Smoke and CO Detector

First let me start by saying the Nest Protect Smoke and CO is little pricey for the physical unit but the peace of mind that comes with having reliable safety equipment in your home is priceless. I purchased 9 of the wired versions and was super excited when I installed them; 25 mins and they were all on the ceiling. The voice alerts, the warning before the alarm sounds, the location of the hazard in your home etc. makes these units way better than the standard smoke alarms. We bought these smoke/co alerts as our 11 year old units have run their course. The units started screaming at 11:30pm for no reason at all. Trying to quite them was a nightmare because I didn't know what was going on and which unit was triggered. After quieting them all, cleaning around the units for dust; they started screaming again around 4:30am. Time to trash them and get new ones. Since we have the Nest thermostats, this was an easy choice. The smoke/co alerts are now monitored from the Nest app, no more chirping low battery indicators, no more wondering if they are really working and so on. These new generation 2 units have a night light, status indicators and an overall cool design. Now that the newness has worn off, they just blend in to the home with nothing else to get excited about. They just sit and wait. But - as long as I know they are there, my family can sleep easy. You really can get cheaper units to do the exact same job and save some money or you can opt for the new technology and have a smarter home.

False alarms

So far so good

I was looking at this product over a year ago, but was put off by the false alarm issue that many people reported with the 1st Gen model. The new model is slightly redesigned and the initial reviews reported that the false alarm issued appeared to have been fixed. After a fifth early morning false alarm from our Kidde system, I went out and bought eight Nest Protects to replace them.
The initial setup was nearly issue free. One of the eight devices could not be paired to the rest using the standard pairing process. After numerous attempts to "find" the device in question, the app instructed me to enter the SSID on the back of the detector and the setup was completed using a secondary process. The physical installation was easy as well; just screws, wire nuts, and my time.
We have had the eight Protects up and running for a month and have not had any issue with them. I have the path light off on all of them except for the one in the upstairs hallway; it provides a nice motion-activated nightlight outside of the bathroom. I wasn't sure if I would like that feature, but I have found it useful in that application.
I would have liked the list of programmed room name options to have been slightly more extensive (no "garage?") and I wish that the foam gasket that sits against the ceiling was white instead of black, which would have made it invisible between the white device and the white ceiling. These are both minor points, but this is a premium product (with pricing to match) so nitpicking is warranted.
Overall, I am pleased with them and I appreciate the connection to the app and my Nest thermostats.

I love these Nest Protects. They are super simple to setup (especially if you already have another Nest Product). They're also very stylish, I think. Very modern looking. Solid and well built. They have an awesome night light that is motion detected. The LED ring changes color based on the situation. The voice audio is great (doesn't sound like a robot). Even with the self-checks it does (sound, battery life, etc), they are very low power usage.
The other thing I like is if it detects smoke or CO2, and you have a Nest Thermostate. It will shut off AC/Heat/Fan so as not to circulate or stoke the fire/co2.
