I only installed wired Nest Protect. It only requires the regular two wires (black and white) to be interconnected via WiFi. I'm extremely pleased with this product! It sends notifications/emails to your phone in case of a power outage or an issue. I often find out there's a power outage by this notification, before I even realize the house power went out. NEST Protect is very informative, stating the room in which there is an issue. And, each will routinely check itself. Also, the path light is great! The brightness can be set to high, low, or medium. The path light can be on (when passing by), off (not used), or always on (a great night light). I purchased this one to replace one of four that I purchased over a year ago. I found out that my father doesn't like the path light on in the hallway, so he beat it with his cane. Subsequently, I used the Nest app to turn off the path light. While the Nest Protect still functioned properly in every way, I thought it best to replace it since dad's cane pierced a hole in its middle.

The main feature we like about this is that it talks to you first when there is an alert, before blasting full on with the alarm. We have pets and a newborn that easily startle, so being able to catch an alert on our phone even when we are away from home, and silence it is invaluable. The pathway night light is also a great bonus feature. The app also tracks when the light comes on, so doubles as a motion detector, at least for tracking pet movement at night. We sleep much better knowing if an alert ever happens we will know regardless if we are home or not.

I replaced all my smoke/CO2 detectors throughout my house with these and am happy I did. They work as expected, were easy to install, sync with the app easily, and have cool features. A bit pricey, but if you have the option to get these vs. another product I would recommend springing for these.

The best smart smoke detector I have owned. I currently own 6 of them, 1 is battery power. I bought this to replace 1 of my old ones that went bad after 6 years. I love the fact that if you have multiple around the house the all communicate with each other. They are easy to setup, the battery one even easier. One installed you pretty much don't bother with it anymore. The path light setting is a plus they will light up as you walk by. You can setup notification for any alerts and even turn your AC off if you own the nest thermostat. I wish they added the ability to use it as a Google assistant since it already has a speake built in. Overall great device to have in your home and keep it safe.

I was getting alot of false positive alarms not knowing which alarm it was from so decided to upgrade to this. Love how it talks and lets you know exactly where the alam is originating from. It also provides a sensor pathway light in the dark. The one down side is it is only integrated into the nest app and you are unable to integrate with other platforms such as Smartthings or even google Home. Other that draw back it has been working well.

This is a wonderful product. My old smoke detectors where 10 years old and needed replaced. The Nest replaces these and adds a CO2 detector to all 6 sensors. The Nest also integrates with the Nest Thermostat. If the system detects a CO2 emergency, it shuts down the furnace to help prevent further problems and send a notification to my smartphone. As a father and a pet parent this gives me great piece of mind. My dogs are home alone often and my older children are sometimes as well. With this system it will give an audible alarm, then a vocal queue as to where the problem is. It then notifies me by smartphone. If my dogs are home alone this gives me a chance to summon help for them. This makes me feel much better. The Nest also includes a cool night light feature and can also help the Nest Thermostat learn when you are home and gone to maximize the efficiency of the HVAC system. If you find yourself at the end of your 10 year lifespan, consider replacing your old smoke detectors with the Nest Protect. You wont be disappointed. I replaced all 6 of mine. Took me less than 1.5 hours to do all 6.

Very easy to install and connect to wifi. The night light feature is lights your way in the dark. It senses motion from quite a distance and generates just enough light to see your path with out blinding your night vision. It integrates seamlessly into the Nest App with or without out other nest products all in one location. It tests itself periodically but gives you warning in case you want to delay the test for some reason such as a child napping. It works with the Nest thermostat to determine if someone is home or if it should go into Eco mode (Previously Away mode). We previously had a problem with Nest shutting down the heat or air conditioning if it couldn't detect someone in another area of the house. This problem is solved with two Nest Protects in the house, one on each floor. It's been a great product with absolutely NO false alarms common in reviews of the previous generation one of the product. I believe all problems have been solved with this software and hardware version of the product. Highly recommended!

I am VERY happy with my purchase. These install easily, look great, and the functionality is awesome. I did have a little trouble at first with the pairing process, but I started over from the beginning and it went smooth. It took some time to get all of the units paired with each other (about 20 minutes for 5 units) but once done, the installation was very quick. Instructions and videos from Nest are awesome and easy to follow. I already had previous units, so all I was doing was taking out the old and putting in the new. My favorite feature is the path lighting... There are several areas where I wanted better lighting (top and bottom of stairs)... my toddler kept messing with night lights that plug into wall sockets, but this is a perfect solution - the detector at the top and bottom of the stairs provide the perfect amount of light. All of the other features are great and I was very happy with my purchase. They're a little expensive, but I have much better peace of mind knowing that my family is that much safer.

I’ve replaced every smoke detector in my house with these Google Nest Protects. They work great and setup is easy. I like that once you set one up, the others set themselves up fairly easily. They have some added features that are nice. The safety check is a quick way to make sure they are working properly. The option to have a bright light on when motion is detected at night is also comforting. If something where to happen and we needed to evacuate, we’d have some light to help guide us. There are a couple this I am less than happy with. First, the price. I know $120 isn’t that expensive. But that adds up, especially since I replaced 7 of them. For that price I feel Google could have added a few extra options. These are essentially speakers mounted in every room in my house. I’d imaging there should be a way to actually use them as whole house music system or an intercom. It’s not like Google can’t program them to prioritize the alarms over whatever could be playing at the time of an emergency. I also do not like how they show up in the Google Home app. In the Nest app you can see them and their status. In the Google home app you can just see that their part of your smart home. With all that said, I would still recommend them. They give little extra peace if mind than your regular smoke detectors. Overall 4 stars

I'd originally looked at these smoke detectors when they first came out, but decided not to purchase based on many reviews about reporting false alarms. The newer version has supposedly addressed this problem and it was time to replace my existing units so I purchased two units to go with my Nest Thermostat. The installation and setup on the network was pretty simple. Remember to make sure the power was off before starting. One of the units is right outside the guest bathroom door, the other in the alcove leading to the master bedroom. Initial testing was part of the setup and the alarms are plenty loud enough. They've now been in use for a couple of months and one day while home alone I took a hot shower in the guest bath with the door open just to see if the alarm would be triggered by any steam that escaped, but no issues here. Being notified on my phone if/when there's an alarm creates a new level of peace of mind. Lots of nice features and very happy with the purchase

Love these. I replaced all the detectors in our house with these. They are completely self-sufficient. They run a self test every month, have a night light feature that’s enough to light a path but dim enough to not wake you up in the middle of the night. I also like the fact that they speak to you first when detecting smoke before they go into a full blown alarm which allows you to deal with burning food and reset them. You can also set up to have them alert your phone if an issue is detected and connect them through the Nest app to their camera system which allows you to see all of your connected devices. All in all I’m super pleased with the simple installation and great quality of these detectors. Another great product from Google.

Wiring was simple----if you can wire an outlet, this is going very easy. Integrates into the Nest/Google ecosystem perfectly. Setup took 5 minutes, same as other Nest products. Lasts for 10 years as well, longer than standard detectors.

I have 4 of these installed in my house now. They are a little pricy compare to the conventional smoke detector but I love having things networked in my house and it was time to replace my old/expired smoke detector. The setup of these are almost as easy as it can be with your mobile phone. I had a little trouble installing my 2nd units as that unit wouldn't get paired. Called the Nest tech support and walked me through the process again, turns out it was having issue with the iOS version on my smartphone and was fine with my iPad. Then a month later one of the unit starting to show not detecting the wired power. I made sure the wiring is just fine. Called Nest support team again and it was a breeze to get my unit replaced. I must say the Nest support team is excellent and very helpful. They are not the typical outsourced to foreign country type of level 1 support tech companies try to put you through nowadays to save money.

I bought this Google Nest protect for my basement, looks and works perfect, no false alarm and easy to set up. connects with your home wifi, and other existing nest products. This particular purchase looked slightly different in the package (comes with more Google brand logo than nest) on the middle big button (silence/test) it doesn't have nest logo written on it even though t he products I bought a little earlier has nest written on them. So I was a little skeptical at first but I was told google was re branding them but was same product and functionality. I am excited for the accuracy, voice guided notification on emergency, phone notification when you're away and a path light when room is dark of this product. I definitely recommend this product.

Best Smoke/CO Alarm on the Market

$99 may seem like a lot to pay for a smoke/CO alarm, but considering that in CA, you're now required to have a combo smoke/CO *with a sealed lithium battery* in every room, and the generic brands that are up to code cost $60 or more, the Nest Protect is really the way to go. Easy to set up, easy to install. Clear, loud, easy to understand voice alerts. Interconnectivity with all of the other Nest Protects in your house (test one, they all test). Ability to monitor the status of your alarms on your smartphone. Interaction with the Nest thermostat (if you have one) to detect when anyone is home (for away mode). And one of the best features, IMO, is the pathway light that goes on when it's dark and it senses movement. No need to fumble around in the dark anymore if you get up in the middle of the night (and yes, you can disable this or adjust the brightness if you don't like the light automatically coming on).

We had been having intermittent alarms with our old smoke detectors, and I knew that I needed to replace them. Given that we have six, I was looking for a cost effective solution, but saw nothing but mediocre reviews on many units. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to protect my family by buying the best units possible. When I first saw these, I was skeptical, but boy was I wrong. These units are easy to set up, and install, and they tell you what the issue is. No more 4am surprises, scrambling to look for smoke, change batteries, etc... I'm completely sold on this product, and highly recommend buying them. One feature that I wasn't aware of, is the nightlight setting. You can set each one up individually, and utilize the LED as a faint nightlight. This function works well in hallways, and can be turned off for bedrooms.

Bought one to see if it lived up to the hype. So, did it? I now have 5 installed. Absolutely fantastic. Every year I chased down chirping smoke detectors in the house due to low batteries. Every year I went NUTS trying to find the right detector - usually, just ended up replacing batteries in all units (which isn't a bad idea) but it was a hassle. Nest Protect solves that and adds functionality that I love - silence via the app, pathlight, verbal alerts, and so-on. They look sweet too. Installation was easy as can be - even with the wired version. Just cap off the red wire, hook up black and white, and you're all set. Base plate has various hole configurations to fit just about every need. If you like tech, high quality, and peace of mind then go grab some of these ... definitely worth the expense.

My dumb smoke/CO detectors all started to reach their end of life and woke me up several nights. Why is it that batter and end of life chirps always happen in the middle of the night rather than during the day when they are the least disruptive? Not anymore. I replaced every one of my dumb smoke/CO detectors with Nest Protects! Product is very easy to install, did 10 in under one and a half hours. Although pricey, at least I know I won't get woken up by the stupid chirps. I also noticed that my old smoke/CO detectors would burn through a 9V battery very quickly even though the units were wired and were receiving power. The Nest Protects integrate very nicely in the Nest app with the rest of my Nest products! Highly recommend this product!
