The product was easy to install being. I already had one and our other home. Unfortunately, there was not a backup plate to cover the thermostat that was taken off. The description on the box made it appear that there was a backup plate however we had to buy that item separately.

This was a great move in present for my sister. Only downside I’ve heard them complain about (since i’m their go to if anything’s messing up or an IT help is needed) is the batteries going dead without having it a year. I’m not sure the cause of it but a little inconvenient considering most thermostats you don’t have to worry about this (or i haven’t in my house)

Hi Wezzjaydawgg, thanks for letting us know about this. We’re sorry to hear your disappointment with Nest Thermostat’s battery.

Nest Thermostat uses 2 standard 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries that you’ll need to replace when they get low. You’ll get notification on the thermostat and in the Home app when the batteries start to get low. If you repeatedly get low battery messages from your thermostat, or if there’s another power-related message, you may need to check the C wire connection or install a C wire to provide consistent power to your thermostat and prevent the backup batteries from draining. Some systems, including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems, require a C wire or the Nest Power Connector.

For further assistance, we recommend contacting our support team. We’d be more than happy to assist you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This skill works well with the exception of it lacking explanation for setup (not easy). The Nest device you wish to control has to be verbally referred to as it is set up in your Nest account. For example, my Nest thermostat was in my hallway and during setup with the Nest app, it asked where the device would be located so it was named "Hallway." After Alexa wouldn't successfully follow through with commands I became frustrated and wondered why it wouldn't work by simply saying the suggestion from the skill description. After several tries, I wondered if I needed to say, "Alexa turn the 'hallway' to 72 degrees"instead of temperature. Thankfully Nest allows you to change the name of the thermostat in settings. Go to Nest app >> Settings >> Thermostat >> Where >> Label (and name it what you prefer to say to Alexa). It seems odd to say "hallway" because I don't just want the hallway temperature changed, so I labeled mine "thermostat." I'm happy to confirm I can now ask, "Alexa... change the thermostat to 72 degrees" and she'll reply, "Setting Hallway, Thermostat AC to 72 degrees." The most rewarding part is after the low tone, I almost instantaneously hear the AC come on!

Hi Pops, thanks for giving us time to write your feedback about the Nest Thermostat, and we appreciate the time and effort you’ve spent to make your thermostat work with your Alexa. Alexa controls your Nest thermostat a bit differently by saying the thermostat’s name as it appears in the Alexa app. In the event you need to set up another compatible Nest device to work with your Alexa, or to learn more about Nest thermostat voice commands, this link might help you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9325080

Improved Nest Thermostat will make your life easier. Fairly easy to install, just follow the instructions, and there are a bunch of online instructions as well. The design is minimalistic and looks nice on the wall. Its function is the main highlight, you can do a lot with the Nest app, such as scheduling, and most importantly remote access. Nest makes it easy when you're on a trip to monitor the condition of your house/apartment, making sure the HVAC is working and saving energy when needed, making your energy consumption more optimal depending on your needs.

I agree completely with KungFuPanda. I have 3 Nest thermostats that are the older versions and everything about this one is significantly cheaper in comparison. I’ve even used the “E” version which was much better than this one. There is no turning dial, the screen is really just a small square and you can see the borders in the display (see photo), and the google home app is far inferior to the Nest app. Even when you adjust the temperature the new sound it makes is irritating. I really hope this isn’t the path that Nest thermostats are heading and that this iteration is just a fluke. I had intended to switch over my mom’s old school thermostats with this one because of a rebate offered by our electric company, but she’s in her 60’s and the lack of a dial would make adjusting the temperature much too difficult. As far as the C wire debate: in my experience the C wire is not needed when your thermostat controls both heating and cooling. In some cases when the thermostat controls ONLY heating or ONLY cooling then a C wire is needed.
