Buyer Beware - Does Not Replace Nest E

My Nest E stopped seeing wifi networks after 1 year, it is a known issue. I purchased this as a replacement, only to learn that it does NOT work with Nest Comfort Sensors and does not display in the Nest App. This is basically a google only product. To maintain the same learning and sensor capability of the old Nest E, you need the $249 3rd Gen "Learning" thermostat.

Hi kingfamily2003, thanks for posting a review. We apologize if you’re unable to use your Nest Thermostat on Nest App.

The new Nest Thermostat is exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your Nest devices can be set up and controlled in one place.

We value your feedback as we are always working to improve our products and services. If you need assistance, feel free to contact our support team. We’d be more than happy to help here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

    Absolute Junk

Piece of absolute junk. Connected it and it worked ( or seemed to) for a couple of hours. After that, it kept cycling the boiler on and off. When I trouble sit the system with my heating guy, he determined that the NEST was the problem. Replaced it with my old thermostat and problem was gone. I’ll be returning this very quickly. Aside from the junk that this is, I don’t like Google accessing my home in yet - one more way.

      Hi Cornerstone,

Thank you for trying out the new Nest Thermostat and sharing your experience with us. We're sorry you encountered such an inconvenience and decided to return it.

Some systems such as heat-only, cool-only, or heat pumps may require a common (C) wire to be compatible with Nest Thermostat. We always recommend using the compatibility checker to determine if your system is compatible here: https://store.google.com/us/widget/compatibility/thermostat

Either the installation was imperfect or this google device should never be purchased. It will not turn off - it is 2 am and the flat is 67 degrees. I have turned the heat down to 50 degrees and the furnace is still running. Never buy this device from Google (no service) or Best Buy. I dont want points for this review. I want the device to turn off the heat - NOW

It's a pain in the neck. They changed the software over the past few years so that you are now required to have a "c-wire" installed on your furnace in order for this device to work properly. Well, my electrician wants to charge me $175 for a service call to install one. Not what I expected.

Hi JudithH, we appreciate you sharing your experience with Nest Thermostat and we're sorry to hear that it didn't meet your expectations. Your Nest Thermostat is designed to use little power and should work with using your system’s heating and cooling wires to get enough consistent power. But sometimes, you may need to connect a common wire (C wire) or power accessory to make your system compatible. If you're willing, we'd recommend reaching out to our support specialists so we can better assist in identifying the compatibility of your system with the Nest Thermostat and provide you with some troubleshooting tips that may improve your overall experience. Hard to get it programmed. My app keeps saying that it cannot connect and the last time I tried it said it is not compatible with the wiring at my house. Pain in the butt. I went to send it back and was informed that it was too late and the "return window" passed by 2 days. I have had several people try to do it so that took time, plus I am in the middle of moving and construction.

This was literally the worst experience. I had to schedule someone twice from the geek squad to install it and the second tech left with my unit not working any longer. The tech left with no responsibility. I then had to call an HVAC company to come fix the unit.

This is the worst investment I ever made in my life! I absolutely hate this thermostat and do not recommend! Very poor quality product adjust on its own. You wake up in the night sweating because the temperatures changes on its own. I would give mine away for free if someone just put a new one in for my that I purchase!

Hi there, we appreciate you for providing us your feedback about the Nest Thermostat, and we’re sorry to learn that your experience with the connectivity and temperature settings did not meet your preferences and needs.

Nest thermostats connectivity issues could be related to power issues, which may occur when your system wires can't deliver enough power to keep the thermostats charged up. As a result, they start draining the batteries and disconnect from your Wi-Fi. And sometimes, poor Wi-Fi connectivity can also cause the battery to drain faster. Your Nest thermostat uses the voltage from your system’s wires to keep its internal battery charged. If the power to your system is switched off or there’s a blackout, the battery has enough capacity to keep working for a while but will eventually run out. Your thermostat will also turn off features like Wi-Fi to preserve battery life before it must turn off completely.

We'd like to investigate the reasons why your thermostat is behaving differently. Please contact us anytime and we'll figure out a way that may help improve your experience, here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
