CHOOSE THE OLDER MODEL!

I needed to patch up the wall where my old thermostat was hooked up. The previous Nest Thermostat I bought came with a wall plate which was perfect. 2. Controls. I had to swipe up and down the side of the thermostat. What if my fingers were greasy? It's kinda annoying. Again, the older Nest Thermostat is better because it has a dial. Easy to change the settings. I could rotate the dial with my forearm if I was a piece of fried chicken. 3. I don't know why but it doesn't work with the Nest app. It says go to Google Home app for installation and control. Installation was easy but the Nest app for me is SUPER USER-FRIENDLY! The thing I liked the most is how easy I can schedule the temperatures during the day/night. Google Home app is freaking confusing! GOOGLE should do something about it. Probably the only thing I like about it is it's very shiny. I can see my reflection whenever I pass by. And oh, BTW, the screen turns up when it senses me coming. That's why I gave it a star. If it weren't for that, I'll give it a negative 1! If I could only return it, I would. Hey I could but I don't want the hassle anymore. I don't want to return things, like my wife and my kids.

The worst tech experience I have ever had

I spent countless hours on the phone with just getting the thing to connect to the app!! Then it kept dropping power. And then the internal temperature it showed was very high so I had to pump my heat all the way up to get it to turn on and warm the house. I had heating bills over $200 last season because of this thing. And the worst part is Google has not been helpful in getting a replacement. So I am choosing another brand. Would give five THUMBS DOWN for this overpriced piece of crap.

The Nest Thermostat works with most systems without a common(C) wire, but some systems such as heat-only, cool-only or single stage heat pumps with/without AUX heat require a common(C) wire to work. Works great until it stops

After only a few days, it stopped sensing my presence and would not light up without tapping it. Had to have an HVAC guy come out who told me he replaced or repaired more of these than any other brand. The device and app were great until it stopped about a week later. Switched to a competitor and problem is now solved.

Getting off line frequently in google home app. Requested google support to help, ot replacement, but same issue. I did make changes to network setting without success. If you've already received a replacement Nest Thermostat and the issue is still persistent, the issue is most likely power related. There are a small number of situations, where your system may not be able to deliver enough power causing the battery of your Nest Thermostat to drain, and even cause the Wi-Fi chip to fail connection with your network. This may happen since Nest Thermostats get power from your system’s heating and cooling wires. In these cases, you may need to contact a Nest Pro technician to check your system´s wiring and connect a common or C wire to deliver enough consistent power to your thermostat.

Not compatible with a 2-wire heat-only system.

Google sells an additional “C” wire kit that has to be installed at the HVAC system, but in my case, the 3rd wire would need to be wired through the walls to each thermostat. Also, Google sells a trim kit to cover larger thermostats being replaced, but in our case, the trim kit isn’t large enough, and would look tacky not covering the untextured part of the walls. Prior to making the purchase, I did my homework to make sure these would work. But once purchased, the instructions direct you to a website to verify the Nest is compatible with you system. And in our case, it was not. We’re disappointed bc we’ve heard great things about Google’s Nest Thermostat, but unfortunately we cannot experience it.

Cheaper but not good to use.

Didn't like it because it was fiddly to use (instead of turning you touch the right side. It was easy to install and worked first time, but didn't like using it (got 2 Nest already) so returned it.

Google take over

Very disappointing and inefficient....also the side touch-slide is awkward to use. The Nest E worked better

Do not buy

Installed on brand new system and it cause very strange issues. AC tech suggested the Honeywell and we have had zero issues with it. Do not buy this. Also was unable to return to best buy as it didnt make it back within the 14 days. Was told either uprade to a membership or couldn't return. Thanks for that best buy
