Big let down from my previous nest thermostat. Google really dropped the ball with that

It does not. This new model requires a C-wire. Returning to the store and going for the learning model instead.

In some cases, particularly if you have a heating- or cooling-only system or use a zone controller, a C wire or other power-supply accessory may be necessary.
