Product malfunction. After 2 hours on chat and trouble shooting this was determined by nest. I wanted them to send a replacement but they wanted to only send base.. was disconnected after first hour and had to redo the entire troubleshooting to end in the same disappointing place.. awful

not worth money for 2 reasons

This not worth the money for 2 reasons. 1. I expected it to work with Alexa but it doesn't. Hidden in their support documents is a statement that not all locations work with alexa. Not sure what Location has to do with it, but definitely deceptive on Nest part. They advertise it works with Alexa. 2. If you are retired or not on a schedule the smart learning is a pain. It turns on when you don't want and off when you want it on. Definitely spend more time adjusting the thermostat than I did the old one. Also it is suppose to go to 60 when I leave and today I came home to the house at 70 even though the thermostat was set at 68 when I left. I spoke to a rep at the company and he basically said that there was nothing he could do and maybe a future update will fix it. Extremely disappointed with this company and this product. I did extensive research before purchasing this, but didn't think there was a need to read thehelp manual.

I had some issues during the install with getting the unit to work. the ac never worked the fan would only blow. customer service was great. they helped me test until it started working. which was about an hour and a half. when I say started working I mean on its own when it felt like it it started. that made me a little weary off the bat. I had everything wired correctly from the beginning but after moving wires around during troubleshooting they ended up back where I originally had them it started working. from there it for the most part work. it kind of had a mind of it's own. it would set itself on random temperatures and a few times went to eco mode even when I disabled it. came home tonight and again the ac quit and couldn't get it back up. put the old thermostat back in. I'll return it for a new one then try again. hopefully with better luck. give it one more shot. when it works it's great.

    Not so smart

The one missing feature from this thermostat is the ability to set a “HOLD” on a temperature. For instance if we go on vacation for a few weeks or just a weekend getaway we would set our old thermostat to a constant temp of say 60 degrees which would keep the house warm enough to prevent pipes from freezing etc. But on our Nest we have to set a whole new schedule in order to do the same. Very inconvenient and time consuming. I can’t believe a feature as simple as a HOLD is missing from this “high tech” product. It’s definitely going back for a refund.

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with this feedback. If you're away from the home for long periods of time while on vacation, you can manually set the Nest to Eco mode which will allow the Nest to remain at one set temperature until told otherwise. Details about Eco mode can be found here: https://nest.com/support/article/Learn-how-Eco-Temperatures-work-on-the-Nest-Thermostat Nest

    NO HOLD OPTION

I have a large home with 3 Nest Thermostats and when we go out of town you cannot simply put on a hold temp! All thermostats have a hold feature even the oldest analog ones. For this reason i give it a 1 star, try messing with the schedule that you have tweaked to get it right over weeks and then have to put it all back. Just a simple hold is all it needs to be a 5 star, but this is a major issue if it is your vacation home or you travel much!!!!! UNTIL THEY UPGRADE DO NOT BUY

      Hi BOMMER,

Thanks for sharing your valuable feedback. We're sorry to hear that Nest Thermostat E didn't exactly meet your expectations.

Nest Thermostat E has the learning feature "Auto-Schedule" that learns from your temperature preferences and then creates schedules for you based on the adjustments you have made. If you prefer to create your own schedules and don't want the thermostat create schedules for you, then you can turn off Auto-Schedule. Here is how you can do this:

      In the Nest app:
      - Open the Nest app and select your Nest thermostat.
      - Select Settings > Auto-Schedule.
      - Tap the switch to turn it off.

      On your thermostat:
      - Press the ring and choose Settings > Nest Sense > Auto-Schedule > Off.

We suggest clearing all the existing schedules in your thermostat to make sure there's no schedules left from the Auto-Schedule. Here's how you can clear the schedules:
      - On your thermostat, select Settings > Reset > Schedule.
      - Depending on which Nest thermostat you have, select either Reset or Clear.

Although Nest thermostats don't have a "Hold" feature, you can utilize the Heat - Cool mode to keep your within a desired temperature range. But we will pass along your feedback to the related team as we're always looking for ways to improve our products.

    Not reliable

I'm on my third Nest. First 2 failed in one way or another. This current one just lost connection to my wi-fi. My older thermostats were something I never had to think about. I do not see a real need to be connected for a thermostat, save money and headaches and do not change to a Nest. As my wires were stranded and not solid cooper it was a bit difficult to install also. to be fair, Nest recommended that with stranded wires you should not use their thermostat.

    Awful and frustrating

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I regret purchasing this half-baked and overpriced product. Originally, I purchased two units for two separate dqellingas. Not only was the onscreen setup buggy and difficult, it took over an hour for the unit to finally connect to the wifi connection, which is broadcast nearby from a new router at high speed. It required multiple resets to finally grab an internet connection. The instructions for the various wiring were difficult and unclear, especially for older systems or wiring jobs that were not performed professionally. Customer service was contacted by chat only after an extremely long wait, and no issue was resolved due to their lack of knowledge and stonewalling of customers. They couldn't answer simple questions about wiring types and required multiple pictures of the setup, all of which failed to upload thanks to their subpar services. I gave up on this Nest and boxed it back up. The other unit appears to work, but the single most frequently utilized feature is the eco mode, which...fails to activate when the application senses that I'm away from home. The cherry on top? Eco mode, which I activate daily and more than any of the Nests other features, cannot be enabled or disabled by voice such as with an Alexa or Google Home which I was truly looking forward to. This completely defeats the purpose of convenience and automation. After this misery and frustration at basic failures, ranging from reliability, to functionality, to customer service, I promptly returned both units for a refund. Avoid this product at all costs.

    Dead on arrival

The device was dead on arrival. I charged for one hour via microusb port, as support suggested but it stayed dead. I’ve spent hours with google support, on web chat then telephone conversations. They tried to troubleshoot but then acknowledged they’re having problems with the product. They said they would send me an email link to start an exchange but they haven’t been able to!! They just couldn’t get an email link sent to me to start an exchange. How could that be, considering these are google people. I’m still waiting for that email, 8 days later, to start the process of an exchange. I’m very disappointed with the device and the company behind it

    Fails as a Thermostat

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Have to constantly keep re-adjusting the temperatures because it does not stay at the temperatures I set, which is the most basic function a thermostat should do, which it fails at completely. Tried to look for the setting to turn it off but couldn't find it. Even if it was there, if I have to fiddle with a basic household appliance like a thermostat for hours just to find out how to make it work properly then there is a serious problem with the device.

    Compatibility is a lie!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got this item after checking the compatibility on nest's website. However, I found the jokes on me, because the compatibility walkthrough says it's compatible. That didn't mean the HVAC system was compatible. Unfortunately I waited too long for a professional to tell me this, after trying to install it myself. Now I'm stuck with a $170 thermostat that is useless to me, since who's going to buy this when it's on sale?

    Reduced Functionality

Google/Nest does not natively support Homekit. Google’s offering does not have any where near the home automation options of Homekit. A workaround exist d through Homebridge, but Google has killed off the developer API to make it work. In other words, this is just a nice looking thermostat I can control on a clunky app on my phone. Nothing more.

There is no temperature swing setting

I am so disappointed about this product. This is expensive, and the setting is complicated. But it is missing one important setting, the temperature swing setting. The factory default set temperature swing is too large for my home need, 1ºF (0.5ºC) according to the tech support.
