NEEDS C WIRE

It works but on battery only. C wire issue they said wouldn’t be. I should’ve been smarter. Good quality though, touch dial works well, looks great and it’s slim.

The features are slimmed down from the Nest Learning Thermostat but I like the new temperature profiles of "Comfort" "Sleep" and "Eco". The device was also practically free after PSEG and NationalGrid rebates. Cons: I needed to run a C-wire since the thermostats only control heat in the selected rooms. Other: Not as premium as the Nest Learning Thermostat, but I still appreciate the design and display, especially considering the price.

Only downside I’ve heard them complain about (since i’m their go to if anything’s messing up or an IT help is needed) is the batteries going dead without having it a year. I’m not sure the cause of it but a little inconvenient considering most thermostats you don’t have to worry about this (or i haven’t in my house)

Nest Thermostat uses 2 standard 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries that you’ll need to replace when they get low. You’ll get notification on the thermostat and in the Home app when the batteries start to get low. If you repeatedly get low battery messages from your thermostat, or if there’s another power-related message, you may need to check the C wire connection or install a C wire to provide consistent power to your thermostat and prevent the backup batteries from draining. Some systems, including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems, require a C wire or the Nest Power Connector.

App works well with our other google products too. Replaced our older wifi Honeywell with this about 2 months ago and have not been disappointed.

The Nest device you wish to control has to be verbally referred to as it is set up in your Nest account. For example, my Nest thermostat was in my hallway and during setup with the Nest app, it asked where the device would be located so it was named "Hallway." After Alexa wouldn't successfully follow through with commands I became frustrated and wondered why it wouldn't work by simply saying the suggestion from the skill description. After several tries, I wondered if I needed to say, "Alexa turn the 'hallway' to 72 degrees"instead of temperature. Thankfully Nest allows you to change the name of the thermostat in settings. Go to Nest app >> Settings >> Thermostat >> Where >> Label (and name it what you prefer to say to Alexa). It seems odd to say "hallway" because I don't just want the hallway temperature changed, so I labeled mine "thermostat." I'm happy to confirm I can now ask, "Alexa... change the thermostat to 72 degrees" and she'll reply, "Setting Hallway, Thermostat AC to 72 degrees." The most rewarding part is after the low tone, I almost instantaneously hear the AC come on!

Nice to look at, but…

The old Nest design where you turn the entire face of the thermostat is better. The side button is too sensitive and not easy to use. Having to use the Google app also is a pain. The old Nest App worked, looked better, and was easier.

She reports loving being able to adjust the temperature when the house is cold while still being in bed. We use the scheduler to make sure we wake up to a nice feeling house and the temperature puck helps make sure our newborn's room is the right temp and runs the system to keep her comfy and sleeping well. Worth every penny for an upgrade from a basic thermostat.
