  • DON’T BUY without looking at your wires first!

    Many different websites say that this thermostat is compatible with a two-wire (no “c” or “common” wire) system. I think it WAS. At a time when you set it up electronically through the Nest app. There are several videos online which show you how to do it (the installation, not the setup on the app). HOWEVER...the QR code now forces you to use the Google Home app. This app will not allow for a full and successful setup without a c-wire. Once I realized this, a quick search online reveals the same thing. Further investigation reveals that having no c-wire causes problems with the batteries charging leading to more serious problems. Unless you already have a C-wire system (or equivalent), or just really want to rip up your walls to run a c-wire, I would NOT recommend this product.

      Nest thermostats can charge their built-in battery using your system’s heating and cooling wires. But, when your heating and cooling wires are not able to deliver the needed power for your Nest thermostat, you may need to connect a common or C wire.     I’m sure this thermostat works as well as the others in the series. My reason for 3 stars is the site says it’s comparable then I spend time getting it trying and finding it isn’t compatible then returning it. Super annoying.

    Disappointed that this did not work for my hvac system. My system is fairly new and was very surprised. I guess I should have tried the nest learning module. I even did the nest questionnaire before hand and it said it would work.
