Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat include a rectangular trim plate, which is designed to cover any imperfections on the wall. The Nest Thermostat Trim Kit (oval) is intended for Nest Thermostat only and it’s not compatible with Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat. Hi Epson, we're sorry to hear that you already returned your Nest Thermostat Trim Kit since your system needed a common (C) wire. The need for a common (C) wire happens when wires of your system can't deliver enough power to support the Nest thermostat's features. In such cases, installing a common(C) wire between your HVAC and Nest thermostats can help deliver enough power and resolve the problem. If you're willing to try, we recommend contacting a Nest Pro technician to check your system and install the common (C) if needed. Hi Vengangaboy, we appreciate your feedback on the Nest Thermostat Trim Kit. We hear you and we understand that having the trim kit included with every purchase of the Nest Thermostat can be ideal for you. However, the Nest Thermostat Trim Plate is optional and sold separately, and is only designed to cover any imperfections on the wall, or where you may need to cover up holes or marks left behind by your previous thermostat. Which means having it included in the box with every purchase of Nest Thermostat will make the product more expensive, and may not be ideal for users who don’t need the trim kit.
