Review of Google Nest WiFI Pro Mesh Router - Single unit. The router is a simple to use and the hardware as per se blends in nicely in between furniture and decoration. It is made with two ethernet and power ports. In the package includes 22W Power Adaptor, Ethernet Cable of 6.5ft, and the router. -Gettring started Getting it ready to use is simple than other type of router although those are easy to septa as well. 1. First plugging the ethernet cable to the cable modem and plugging to power outlet; 2. Then opening the Google Home and add as device, which quite same as rest of routers in today market. But where the simplicity differs from others is setting up from the Google Home from which by adding the SSID and passwords and if no other specific need to be changed, the WiFI is up and running and this is applicable if the router is the main and not dependent to another router. -WiFi Range Coverage: It’s specific coverage is 2,200 square feet. But during the actual usage for a short period of usage, its signal worked better than expected in the larger space inside and outside at backyard. All the bars were solid. (Result based on having the router placed on second floor with open space) -Unique functionality: Functionality that I have not seen in other router settings: 1. Separate setting per each band. The Google Nest WiFI Pro Mesh doesn’t have option to set up separate SSID and Password differently. In the same way, there is no way to see what devices are connected to 2.4ghz, 5ghz, or 6ghz. 2. The functionality for parental control known in rest of routers setting, it is called Family Wi-Fi allowing two main function: Schedule to Pause, and create Group of devices. -Privacy For this, Google has implemented Nest WiFi Cloud Services. Once it is enabled, it provides, according to Google, peak performance, useful network insights, then it store and analyzes data about owners entire network and devices. Users with mindful care on the subject might want review it. However, during the usage, the service doesn’t seem to trigger any specific notification on the risk of privacy data from different devices as never has popup subject relevant notification. -New standard ready: According to Google’s Net Device information, it says to be Matter ready when it comes available. What else: 1. It can be used as Bridge without major issues, at least from the usage haven’t experienced issues in this mode and using the Google Home to monitor the network. What I wish it work better: 1. Have a On/Off button. This is a useful detail when need to troubleshoot with internet service provider and don’t have to plug/unplug power. 2. Able to see what devices are connected to which band. 3. Able to specify the type of device in its detail information screen. It allow to rename the device, but can’t set a type or category of device like camera, doorbell, tv etc. Same way, unable to update manually the brand. 4. In the device information would like to see the channel and band that is connected to. What does best: -Simplified and easy to use user experience with reliable connectivity with good range of signal coverage. The router is remarkable for non sophisticated users and blending well as part of home decoration. It provide good range coverage and ease to control and monitor. It is recommendable if the price point and data being collected by Google is not a concern.

FAST 4th generation Google WiFi product! Great!

I’ve used Google’s WiFi products since the OnHub and this generation is the best one yet… in terms of hardware. It’s fast and easy to use once it’s set up. The RANT: The Google Home app is actually a tragedy. The Google WiFi app from the past was such a great hub for setting up and configuring OnHub and Google WiFi devices. When we moved over to the Google Home app with the first Nest WiFi: wow what a disappointment, and the app continues to DISappoint. It’s ugly, hard to use and the worst part of all: If you are migrating from earlier Google/Nest WiFi products YOU HAVE TO FACTORY RESET YOUR WIFI SETTINGS. What the??? Yes, there’s no migration manager to take your settings forward so you have to start over! Remember your settings or all your devices will need to be reconfigured. Think of all those smart homes out there that are going to be in massive disarray! The Google Home app; I hate it! Okay, now the good part… Other than the dismal setup this wifi router rocks! I got the snow version of the Pro and wow is it shiny in comparison to the original Nest WiFi. It’s also about an inch taller and a bit less deep. I think the light is also brighter in its brightest configuration. We have a three story 2600 sq. ft. old brick house with a basement. Previously we had Google WiFi then upgraded to Nest WiFi with four pucks in our mesh. We generally don’t get good WiFi without a repeater or a mesh network because of our old style thick, solid walls. Hey, the speed of this router is tops. I have a 400Mb/s connection and I get at least 250Mb/s everywhere in the house. Normally in the corners, I’m glad to get 25Mb/s. WiFi 6E 6GHz is real, it’s here, and it’s fast! I bought another Pro to get our second floor fully covered in 5-bar WiFi goodness. I’m so surprised at the coverage of this product! Here’s the main reason why you’ll upgrade: The speed doesn’t really decrease with a huge amount of devices on your network. We have a smart home with over 100 devices at times sipping at the 2.4 & 5Ghz. Adding 6GHz really made a difference. Further, the way that Google manages the channels on each point allows for less clashing when you have a bunch connected. I’m impressed! I was able to turn my Nest cameras to higher rez and bandwidth without affecting my GoogleTVs and my laptops running Zoom and Google Meet video conferencing. During the time I ran the Nest WiFi Pro as single point and mesh, I didn’t lose connection at any time walking throughout the house with my cell phone in my back pocket and wearing headphones. From top floor to back stair and basement, the connection stayed solid. This is a solid, whole heartedly recommended product. I’m excited to know that this router supports and extends Thread which will be required if running Matter 1.0 in smart homes. Although Google doesn’t make any promises that there will be any functionality from Matter, I’m so stoked that there’s a possible future Thread extender or hub in this product! Pro: - Looks great, but the colors… they’re so subtle - Very reliable WiFi signal, you’ll need less pucks than with Google WiFi or the OG Nest WiFi - Keeps up with speed up to 1Gb/s, even with lots of devices. - Solid connection that doesn’t give up. Yes to 6GHz - Supports Thread protocol which should be interesting to smart home builders Cons: - Extremely frustrating setup if coming from previous Google WiFi products - The Google Home app is ugly and unfriendly compared to the OG Nest app or the old Google WiFi app - I severely dislike the Google Home app

Great 6e mesh router before competitors

When the new updated Google Mesh router was announced with 6e capabilities which are faster than regular Wi-Fi 6 speed I was excited to see which of my home devices would have increased speeds because of having a fiber Gigabit modem in my home which is a little larger than the recommended square footage of 2200 in the specs. A two-story home can be a challenge with possible dead zones but so far, the new Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400 Mesh Router has worked remarkably well throughout the home. I was impressed with how easy the setup process was for this latest Mesh system from Google since it basically had simple steps such as plugging in the power and downloading the Google Home app on an Android phone or an iPhone. I had two of the latest models of each type of phone operating system and had the applications already setup. The next step of setting up the Google Mesh system required to scan the QR code on the bottom of the light-colored unit. I tried repeatedly to scan the code with my new iPhone, but it would not recognize the code even with trying to use a flashlight to help illuminate the area. I then was relieved to instantly have success when I used my latest Android phone the Fold 4 which immediately found the code and moved along quickly in the final setup process. I decided to avoid conflicts with my existing fiber Gigabit modem/router and used the same SSID to prevent having to reset the home Wi-Fi settings on the dozens of devices that are connected to it. I was very happy to find that the important system settings in the Google Home app were easy to turn on or off depending on your own home best situation for security and if you can use all of the options such as the WAP3 security if most of your devices are compatible with it. The next option is using the 160 MHz for the maximum 5GHz utilization if all your devices are also compatible with it. The final option that I needed for my own personal system was to turn on IPv6 option since it is faster than the existing IPv4 option. I do not think this is a critical setting for most people unless they intend on using their system for a lot of gaming which would benefit more from the IPv6 option. I put my system through many tests due to the various operating systems and location of the devices plus the fact that some were laptops, iPads, and many streaming items that need plenty of bandwidth. I ran the Speedtest application on my phones and computers in different areas of the house and was pleased with the speeds that the new Google Mesh 6e Router was able to achieve. When I was in close proximity to the new mesh router I had the highest speeds I have ever seen on the two phones which was impressive being between 700-800 mbps. I am very happy with the new router and am pleased to see a new well executed product improvement that will benefit so many people.

I purchased the 3-pack Nest WiFi Pro as an open-box deal to replace my older Google Mesh system with four pucks. Setting up the main router wasn’t exactly a breeze, but fortunately, there’s plenty of information available online to help troubleshoot issues. It took me three attempts to get the initial router installed successfully, but once that was done, adding the other units was quick and seamless. By keeping the same SSID and password, all of my devices reconnected automatically on the first try. Overall, it’s been an excellent upgrade from my old Google Mesh. The Nest WiFi Pro is noticeably faster, and with just three units, I’m getting better coverage than I did with four of the older pucks. So far, so good—very happy with the switch!

Went with home wireless internet and needed to extend service to my office basement. A co- worker on the network team said to go with Google as it just works. He was right. The router is on the 2nd floor. This is a two node mesh and works great. Handles zoom meetings, streaming devices and others doing homework. Only challenge is every two to three months, the basement ends point needs to get moved a few inches for an adjustment to connect back with the mesh.

Using the Google Home app is convenient enough, they work well when working properly but frequent drops after a couple weeks I can’t seem to figure out why and my old system doesn’t do it. I had a 3 mesh setup of Samsung Connect Home Pros before and the wifi speeds were terrible but the connection was solid and barely ever completely stopped working like these have been doing. Getting them to connect properly, even after looking up videos still took over an hour. Not to tout my own knowledge but I’ve worked in the tech industry for over a decade so I’m pretty versed in setting up networking equipment, and while the steps are simple…just getting them to actually find and complete setup was just annoying. Had to continually reboot and kept them right next to each other still had trouble connecting the mesh initially, it’d find it in the app but unable to setup for seemingly no reason…it finally just worked after numerous reboots. Overall the speeds are good but for the latest and greatest I was expecting the max speeds I can get. If I connect the LAN I have 600Mbps and with the Samsung’s I typically got 150-200Mbps wireless. With these I typically get 400-500Mbps. I’ve tried everything to figure out why the drop from the main router and have no idea. If I don’t have the mesh setup at all I get the full 600Mbps speeds but much shorter range of course. I am fine with those speeds, it’s the every other day disconnections that have become frustrating. Rebooting fixes it but no clue why the main unit cuts out from the connection to the modem. It’s definitely not the modem based on replugging in the Samsung’s for a few days and no issues. The range is good on them, the speeds are fine but certainly not impressive (I did try a doupble priced 2-pack Orbi and they had around 500Mbps speeds off the mesh but no issues disconnecting). I’m tempted to return these but I wanted to like them for the value. I don’t know if it’s defective or if the mesh is really that poor on the distance (each is about 20-25ft from each other) causing the random disconnects, not quite full speeds, and the bad taste from the initial experience I’m not real impressed.

Setup was fairly straightforward since I already have things that use the Google Home app. But I was initially frustrated that not all of my devices would connect automatically even though I used the same wifi network name and password -- even contacted customer support for one device. But what do you know -- woke up the next morning to have all of my devices connected, and even one device (Fitbit Aria 2 scale) that stopped connecting to my old router years ago! The only thing I miss from my old router that this router doesn't have are time limits for my kids (but it does have bedtimes). But overall it's definitely an upgrade -- connections are much faster. You just might have to wait for some devices to connect on their own, or move them so the router connects to them better. Hope this helps someone. Happy holidays!

Overall, it’s a good router and easy to set up, but you can’t select what channel you want your device to be on as it’s automatic, so if you have a device that needs to be on a 2.4 channel, good luck.

The perfect Wi-Fi 6e mesh System for Big Homes

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400 Mesh Router is the perfect mesh Wi-Fi for homes. For the past 5 years I have been using my internet providers router/modem combo and the signal was just not cutting it anymore, since I’ve added several 4K TVs that are all used for streaming. Since installing the Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e it has been a real eyeopener of just how bad my internet providers router was, immediately I noticed a huge increase in speeds for my Wi-Fi devices. On my old router I was getting about 25-40Mbps over Wi-Fi depending on where I was in my house, with the Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400 on the 5g signal I was getting up to 500Mbps and getting 600Mbps when plugged directly into the router to my PC and Xbox. Setup was a breeze in that you download the Google Home app on your phone and hit add new device and just plug router into your modem and follow the steps and boom your good to go. I have ordered the Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400 2-pack to give my home better coverage because I still have some weaker signal areas (getting about 100 Mbps now) in my home that I would like to take full advantage of the Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400. Do make sure you pair this with a 3.1 Cable modem, so that you get the best possible speeds, because if you get a 3.0 Cable modem you could end up bottle necking your router and not getting the speeds you are paying for. I recommend going with the Arris 3.1 Cable Modems because they work with all the major providers and its easy to set up also. Overall, I highly recommend upgrading to the Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e AX5400 Mesh Router for anyone with a relatively big home to get the best speeds and it’s the best introductory price point for Wi-Fi 6e router, and since its mesh you can just add more of them to get the best possible coverage in home.
