Have some peice of mind when it comes to adding security to your home or apartment. Purchased a Google Nest compatible door adapter so we don't screw anything to the exterior of the apartment.

Coming from a Ring doorbell. I decided to try this out because I'm exploring the google eco-system. Quick notifications. Nice UI. I like the vertical camera vs horizontal. It's an easy recommendation.

Save your money on this. If you can, get the older model that connects to the wired terminals and uses the Nest App. This only uses the google home app despite the name. The camera takes forever to actually connect when you open through the google home app. To speed it up, you need to go to history then back to live, otherwise it will just sit there. It also doesn't constantly record. I get that this is a battery powered product and you don't want to use the battery up in a day or two, but a great solution for that would have been to have a removeable battery. This product is also stupid because you have to go through the Google home app. The nest app was way better. I am thinking that Google is doing away with the nest app/brand and will just have everything incorporated into Google Home. Why does Google always do this?? I recently go to experience the Ring App and I couldn't believe the features that come with a Ring doorbell camera. Community warnings about theft in the area, mountain lion sightings, etc.

Hi adamhlj, we appreciate you for sharing your review with us and we're sorry to hear that your experience with the overall performance of your Nest Doorbell (battery) has been disappointing. We'd like to know more about the delay you're getting by connecting the camera when you open it in the Home app so we can assist you with troubleshooting steps and find a resolution. Hi Stang, we're sorry to hear about the short battery life, and that you didn't like the Google Home app for your Nest Doorbell (Battery).

We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired):
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, """"Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Users can extend the battery life of their camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

You may want to check the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. If you have Nest system such as cameras etc, and you don't want deal with wiring this door bell is perfect. Easy to setup and install. But not enough information on inside documentation. You need to "Google" it for finding instructions. Battery life looks decent for now.

My third Google nest doorbell, returned product

I’ve had two Google nest doorbells in the past and those models are obsolete and both of them actually shorted out so the point where they were no longer functional. There isn’t a whole lot of options on the market and after looking through what was in stock and I decided to try a third Google nest doorbell. It didn’t end up fixing some of my smart home integration issues and it didn’t fit my needs or work in the way that it was supposed to. I ended up uninstalling it and returning it and now I have a classic push button doorbell without any smart features and my headache with some of the Google smart home stuff is no Longer.

I had a Ring Pro at my old house and decided to try the Nest doorbell at my new place. So far, I'm finding it better than the Ring, even on the free plan. The Ring had so many false alerts, while the Nest does a great job of recognizing people and even packages.

    Does Not Work

I did my research, read the reviews on the different video doorbells, and talked to friends about the equipment they use. I wanted to use a wired doorbell, but my home does not have a wired doorbell system installed and there is not an easy way to install the wiring without penetrating the brick. Because of this I was forced to consider battery versions of the various products, which was eventually narrowed to the Google Nest Doorbell Battery. In short, do not waste your time with this product. I followed the instructions and stepped through the installation tool. The doorbell quickly connects with my phone and is easily added to my wireless network, but when it reaches the step, "Getting your device ready" it fails. The only error is, "Something went wrong." There is no error code, nothing other than a generic, non-descriptive, useless message. I do not know if the issue is with the elementary app, Google Home, or if there is a different issue. Based on my years of working in technology and troubleshooting products, I have tried multiple ways to get the product set up all yielding identical results: - I purchased multiple units; to determine if I received a faulty product, I tried a second doorbell. Identical results. - I restarted my phone to flush the memory. Identical results. - I tried installing with a different device, my tablet instead of my phone. Identical results. - I created a new Google account, and again identical results. - I tried performing the installation closer to the router. Identical results. - Just for grins and giggles, I turned my router off and gave it sufficient time for the cache to be cleared. Yep, identical results. Between each of the different attempts the doorbell was reset to factory defaults and removed from the network, and all attempts fail at the same place of the installation process. I opened a case with Google Support, on the first session the issue was escalated twice, first to “senior support” and then to “the technical team.” I was told I would hear back from them in 24-hours, more than 2 days later still no word. When you reach out to check on the status all they can say is a string of standard lines: - "We are sorry for the inconvenience." - "The team is working on it." - "We will get back with you as soon as possible." These are not my first smart devices in the house, they would be my first smart Google devices. The other products installed quickly and seamlessly without issue. The other apps are far more robust and feature rich than the Google Home app (at least based on what I have seen with the app). Google Home does recognize the other smart devices, but does not allow the devices to fully integrate, so you still need to keep the apps from the device manufacturer for the most robust features. Looks like I will be returning these items for a refund and will select something else. Save yourself the aggravation and frustration and purchase a different product.

One of the poorly designed product from Google and did not expect it to be this bad. Any product that you claim to easy to install should really be easy to install and then hold good. This thing keeps falling off on strong winds. The latch that is supposed to hold this thing to the back plate is very bad. As to the functionality of the doorbell it does the job well but the app is very bad and not user friendly. It surely is not worth the price and the $6 subscription cost.

Hi SpeedBird, thanks for sharing a review about the Nest Doorbell (Battery) and it’s unfortunate to hear that it keeps falling off, and that the Google Home app is not user friendly for you.

If you’re using the wedge for a better camera view, make sure to install the wedge then position the baseplate plate over the wedge with the G positioned upright and use the wedge screws to secure it in place. Then attach the doorbell to the baseplate, align the circle at the bottom of the doorbell to the hole at the bottom of the baseplate, and push the doorbell in then down until you feel it click into place. Test the doorbell to make sure it is securely mounted. Please see this help article that includes video installation: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10732535

Meanwhile, we suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view for cameras set up in the Google Home app. And if you still need help after trying the troubleshooting steps above, feel free to let us know here and we’ll gladly help you the best we can: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
