|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If this is your first video doorbell and you're not in an existing ecosystem of technology, then you'll probably love the Google Doorbell. I have been using Nest products for years and currently have 4 cameras, 3 CO2/Smoke detectors, the smart lock, thermostat, nest secure, and formerly the Nest Hello Doorbell that this replaced. We also have Nest hubs, smart speakers, chromecast, pixel phones. I mean we're all in on the Google/Nest ecosystem. So I was really excited to get this new doorbell and install it. First of all, this thing is huge compared to the Nest Hello. However, because it's white, it matches the trim on the door and doesn't stand out as much as the all black Hello did. There are also various other colors depending on where you're putting it, or if you just want to add some flair. Installation was straightforward and simple, and because I'm familiar with the Google Home app, setup was very simple. I was loving everything about this until I tried to adjust settings and look at the history. Google has a subscription program where you pay an annual fee to have non-stop video footage from the prior 10 days, along with 60 days of event history. If you have a bunch of cameras (as I do) then it's a great service. The fewer cameras you have, the less cost effective it is. Because this doorbell is designed around the battery, it does not allow for use of the Nest Aware subscription or it's 10 day history. You get event recording for free, but that's it and only if the camera picks up the thing happening and records it. To me, this is the camera's biggest flaw. I understand that in a battery only situation, it would kill the battery life. However, they designed this doorbell to be hardwired. It makes no sense that in a hardwired configuration it won't allow for the continuous recording. That is a software update that Google needs to make in order to make this the doorbell camera that it could be. If they make that update, I'll go to 4 stars. If they allow it to be controlled in the Nest app, instead of Google Home, it's 5+ stars. I'll say it again. If this is your first and only video doorbell, and you're a renter and want to use the battery powered option, it's probably the best option out there at the moment. My reason for the 3 stars is that Google essentially took the Nest doorbell, made improvements to the hardware, then released the new version under the Google brand name with less functionality than the prior generation and a more cluttered app experience. That's the bad news. The good news is that these are things that Google can easily fix via updates, so hopefully they're listening and take the feedback seriously. I would recommend it to anyone other than people who already have the Nest Hello Doorbell.

Posted .Hi there cusedice, thanks for being an advocate of our products, and we truly appreciate your detailed feedback on Nest Doorbell (Battery). We’re sorry for the limited support on both the Nest app and the 10-day 24/7 video history.
Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and the Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Also, here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app:
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
Your Nest Doorbell (battery) comes with package detection, person detection, animal detection, vehicle detection, including intelligent alerts, and activity zones even without an active subscription. Even though you won't get 10 days of 24/7 video history, you still get 30 days of event video history with an active subscription of Nest Aware, and 60 days of event video history with the Nest Aware Plus. If you are interested in 24/7 continuous video history, you may want to consider our wired Nest Hello Doorbell.
We’ve taken a note of your feedback and we’ll make sure this gets passed along to the right team since we’re always looking for opportunities to improve our products and services. If you need assistance, feel free to contact our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Zone Alerts Not Working
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I setup a zone that covers my front door to the end of my driveway which includes people, vehicle and deliveries. I had a UPS and FedEx delivery, both times the trucks pulled in my driveway, and they left large boxes on my front steps. Both times this doorbell failed to alert or record history for any of the 3 events I assigned. Going to be sending this back, obviously not going to keep something that can do the simplest of tasks that it was designed for.

Posted .Hi JayShomp, thanks for making us aware about the issues you’ve encountered with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). It’s unfortunate to learn that your doorbell failed to alert or record history when events occurred. This is not the experience we want you to have. Nest cameras are designed to alert you when they detect important activity, even without a subscription.
We recommend checking if your device is connected to your Wi-Fi network and the network is connected to the internet. You may need to move your camera or change something in the camera’s view to improve motion detection results. You can also change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activities. If notifications are turned on, check whether similar activities had recently occurred in your camera’s video history:
*Seen activity types
Tap the switch next to each type of notification to enable or disable alerts for things like motion, people, or animals. This list can vary depending on your camera or doorbell model and if you have an Aware subscription.
*Away-only notifications
Tap the switch to enable or disable away-only notifications. When this is on, you can only receive camera alerts when your home is set to Away. So if someone is home, you won’t get notifications about activity from your camera.
We’d like to have a closer look to find out what went wrong so we can help improve your experience and if you’re willing, you may visit us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Posted .Hello ShaunK, thanks for the feedback and for letting us know of your concern with using the Nest Doorbell (battery). We understand that having to charge your doorbell frequently can be an inconvenience, and this is not the kind of experience we want to share with you.
Your Nest doorbell could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and doorbell settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your doorbell by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Posted .Hi there, thanks for posting your feedback. We’re sorry to learn that the Nest Doorbell (battery) isn’t working as expected.
When someone rings your Nest doorbell, it can send a visitor notification to all phones that share access to that doorbell with the Home app or Nest app. To be notified of visitors, notifications from your doorbell have to be enabled, and your phone needs to be in the same home as your doorbell. You can visit this link on how to get alerts from your Nest Doorbell (battery): https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9210305

Defective clip
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The clip on this doorbell is very defective and you'll find many other reviews online to confirm this. I've pulled this off of the mount only a few times to charge it over the past few months and the clip inside the doorbell is literally broken now. It will not snap back on. I am returning mine for sure and just going with the Nest Hello doorbell instead.

Posted .Hi there Grcl, thanks for making us aware of the poor battery life for your Nest Doorbell (Battery). We´re sorry to hear that you encountered this issue and we hope you will give us the chance to help you.
There are a few factors that will affect the battery life of your Nest Doorbell (Battery), and these include activity, temperature, and the camera settings that you select. You may extend the battery life of your doorbell further by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)
To further isolate the issue, we recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. You may contact our support team for further assistance by visiting us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Posted .Hi there, thanks for the feedback that you shared about the Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re sorry to learn of your disappointment that the camera doesn’t work with the Nest app.
We understand that long time Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app, however, our priority with this launch was to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays, and to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant.
Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.
Your feedback means a lot to us. For any questions or concerns, please contact our specialists through our available support channels here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Posted .Hi Vizio4KTVUHD, thanks for your feedback. We´re sorry to hear about your disappointment with the changes we made for Nest Doorbell´s features.
The move from Works with Nest (WWN) to Works with Hey Google (WWHG) enables the Google Assistant to control all your connected products. We wanted to let you use the Google Assistant to create Assistant Routines in the Home or Assistant apps. The move to the Google Home app using a Google account also provides you with the benefits below:
- Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
- Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Doorbell (Battery) and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
- One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
- Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
Our support team would be more than happy to assist you with your concerns and answer any questions you may have about the features for your Nest Doorbell (Battery). Come visit us at the Google Nest help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

A great addition to your tech house
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Google doorbell is without hesitation one of the best options to take care of your house security. The device allows the owner to see who is at the door at any time, talk to him, order the assistant to play a predetermined message, or receive alerts if the system identifies a person, a package, or even an animal. While some of the previous elements are already available in other doorbells, I found great package recognition or the functionality that allows you to pre-identify family members, in both cases the alert will include those concepts. Very easy to install, all start by connecting it to the power and download the Google Home application to your smartphone. The only requirement is to have Wi-fi at home and a google account. From the app directly, you have to click on "configure a new device" and choose the "bell" option. The app asks to scan the QR code on the back of the Google Nest Doorbell. Once recognized, some parameters allow you to identify the location. The configuration included in this process took me 15 minutes. I’ve decided to have the (rechargeable) battery doorbell that allows me to use the bell without the bell wires at the door. The specs are talking about 2.5 months of battery life, in my first full week, the battery reports (data available in the app) 83% or 5 remaining weeks. Installing the doorbell at your door is quite intuitive, all materials including screws are included in the box (only need a pencil, a screwdriver, and a drill). It seems that the only key element to keep in mind is the placement of the device 1.2 meters above the ground to have the best visibility. There is a video available on the web about the installation that you could also watch. Also, a video is available for when the doorbell needs to be recharged with two very basic steps and the use of a flat screwdriver. Once installed, the image is a quite clear, better day with very nitid colors than a night with infrared vision (in this case you see the images in your app in black and white) but in both cases perfect to identify your visitors. With the correct placement, I am very happy about the area of view. As I said before, the app works great sending alerts (they call smart alerts, and they are) to my phone personalized when a family member of a package is recognized by the motion detector. I love this!. One final component that is included are the “quick responses”, which are prerecorded in the language selected by the user that can be pronounced by the assistant after request. For example, “I'll be right there”, “No one can come to the door”. The functionality is ok but the voice sounds metallic, I prefer to directly talk to the visitor thanks to the two ways of communication. The alarms can be silenced during quiet time and for a specified time. Different from others, there is no subscription require (while is possible). Without, you could record up to three hours of video for free. Also great that if the power fails (no problem for the battery doorbell but if Wi-Fi goes out) the device has a local memory to store video locally. The final element, the google home app is a world in itself. In combination with the doorbell, the availability to change parameters, languages, including family members for recognition, define zones of control, battery supervision seems endless. Three elements on the less good side: - The camera size is bigger than other more discreet doorbells, your visitors will notice it at your door. - The pre-recorded messages, I wish I could be prerecorded by me with my voice to give a better sense of realism. - If you don’t have a google home speaker or a wired doorbell the notification is exclusively in your phone, there is no ring received. With all of that, I am amazed by the the doorbell and recommend it to family and friends.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit itself is fine but I was disappointed that my ‘wireless’ doorbell did not have the ability to alert people in home who may have hearing impairments with bell, loud notification,,,,,,, I don’t care what. If wired they can do this. Installer was not able to come up with a solution. I purchased this to solve this issue.

Posted .Hi ReluctantRareCritic, thanks for posting a review. We regret to learn that the Nest Doorbell (battery) didn’t meet your expectations.
Nest Doorbell (battery) can do visitor announcements on a Google Assistant-enabled speaker or display or the indoor chime. Also, in addition to standard themes or sounds, seasonal doorbell themes are available around some holidays. You can change the theme or set a different chime sound in the app’s doorbell settings, where it automatically goes back after the default tone after the holiday.
