No more surprises on my front door

Aside from the security benefits of this product, my main reason for getting it was to alert me of package arrivals. I enjoy the customizable notifications I am able to receive. I can chose for the Google Home App to alert me whenever it detects people, packages, or pets which decreases the number of alerts I get on my phone. The video quality is great, but perhaps not the best. Installation was quick and painless, it took me about 10 minutes to completely setup and install on my front door.

Solid Choice for Google Home/Nest Ecosystem

Great video quality (if set to highest settings), both day and night. Integrates seamlessly into the Google Home app. Battery life is pretty impressive (2 weeks on "out of the box" charge on high quality settings) Pros: - No wiring (unless you want it connected to an existing doorbell speaker) - Easy setup - Great video quality, nighttime video is impressive - "Nest Aware" service has some neat features ($5/mo) - Facial recognition is impressive (needs the Nest Aware service to work) - Recognizes package delivery (also thinks you're removing delivery packages if you leave with anything in your hands) - 2 Way talk works as advertised. Mic can hear people across the street! Cons: - Outside of Google Home App on your phone, you'll need a Chromecast to stream doorbell video to a TV, unless its an AndroidTV - Facial recognition is easily defeated by wearing a hat or hood, even when looking at the Nest directly - No option to hardwire power (I knew this going in) - Field of view could be wider (its a "portrait" style, which seems counterintuitive for monitoring a yard/porch/driveway), but is good for phone viewing (seems to be the intention here) Overall, I'm happy with it, but those who aren't in the Google Home ecosystem should probably consider other cams, as a lot of its best features only work seamlessly with Google/Android displays/tablets/speakers.

I didn't know what to expect with this. All I knew, was that I wanted to feel safe. This product exceeded my expectations and more! The clarity of recorded video, the responsiveness of notifications, and the ease of set up are my favorites parts of the product. If you are on the fence, don't be! This is a great product and I recommend this product to anyone who is searching for a niche product such as this.

Great camera, easy to use! 24/7 footage up to 30 days history. Only issues I have is currently I cannot add to nest app only through google home, I understand that is due to Google buying nest. Just cant eait for google to finish updating app to allow more features.

    Not a door bell

Was extremely disappointed. I swear by Nest products but this is wireless doorbell overlooked three major functions that are so basic NOONE would have thought google world developed a product that without them. First, the wireless version is not compatible with ANY chime. So you can't hear anyone ringing your doorbell inside the house?! Second, the battery can't withstand temps below freezing. Sooooo the doorbell can't go outside in the winter. Third, it's funny that Nest was forced to put their name on this product because Google owns them. However, you can't control or view this product on the Nest app like the rest Nest products. Nest app is FAR better than Google Home because it much more user friendly and doesn't have the delays in connecting to the cameras like like Google does. Hopefully the wired version doesn't have these problems. WHICH,IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, SHOULDN'T MAKE SENSE!!! Don't get tricked in installing this product. Now i have to go through the hassle of thanking this "doorbell" camera down and returning it. The one good thing is the camera is far better than Ring.

Hi there, aegarden101 Thanks for sharing your feedback about the Nest Doorbell (battery). We understand your disappointment and appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention.

While the Nest doorbell can replace most wired doorbells, there are some cases where the doorbell system either doesn't give enough power or gives too much power. We're continuously working to improve compatibility and are exploring solutions for future iterations. Meanwhile, we suggest checking that your current doorbell can be replaced by the Nest doorbell here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132

As for the battery performance in cold weather, the Nest Doorbell (battery) has an outside operating temperature range of -20°C to 40°C (-4°F to 104°F). Using the device above or below the temperature range can cause performance issues. At temperatures below freezing, the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing. You need to bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature so the battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.

Lastly, we understand that having the ability to manage and control the doorbell through the Nest app can be ideal for you. However, we're focusing on making the Google Home app the central hub for all your Nest and smart home devices with Google Assistant. Other benefits of using the Home app includes the following:
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

If you need help with using the doorbell in the Home app effectively, let us know by visiting us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

It was very easy to install. We love the notifications. Currently is battery operated only wanted to attach the chime originally installed in the house but haven’t successful. I was able to set up notifications through our phones and the Amazon echo show. In general we are satisfied with this product.

My favorite doorbell doorcam. High quality video with high quality video and sleek design. The design alone sold me! I love that it recognizes faces and alerts me when they are seen. The package feature is another great one that alerts when packages are seen and when the taken from frame. All in all a great competitor

Compared to our last doorcam this was much higher in quality. My only biggest complaint is that it requires itself to be wired in to make use of door chimes. You can circumvent this by using a nest hub and having the assistant chime for you, but it'd still be nice to just have a general chime option.

had ring for a couple years...the clear plastic infront of the camera started cracking from sun exposure. why they have a clear piece on top of the camera lens beats me..seeing that they are supposed to be exposed to nature 24/7.. bought the nest doorbell. its awesome..recognizes faces and google devices announces their name or it someone random is there..plus picture quality is hdr very clean and clear. .night vision/view is also superb.

The Nest device is easy to install. The battery lasts a very long time before we need to recharge it. The App UI is nice and easy to understand. You get notifications for activity near your door. It's definitely worth setting up specific activity zones so that you don't get notifications for busy travel areas that don't require your attention. The only negative is that to get the most out of it, it requires a subscription.

I went in to Best Buy for another doorbell but changed my mind to this one because I have the Google Homes throughout my house. I use the battery power and it is connected to my Google homes. When the doorbell rings it alerts me on the screen and on the speakers. So far love it! The only thing is the battery life to recharge but it is super easy to take off and charge. Picture quality on my phone app and the google homes is perfect. I would highly recommend.

Hi Becca, thanks for choosing the new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery). We appreciate your feedback and we're glad to hear that you love it. However, we'd like to learn more about the short battery life you are experiencing with it.

There are a few factors that may affect battery life including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You may extend the battery life of your Nest doorbell by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

We also recommend keeping a close eye and checking on the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and figure out the root cause. Decent option but leaves us wanting more. We replaced an old Nest doorbell that had stopped working. I wanted the wired version but the store only had the battery option in stock. Biggest frustration is the historical recordings. We already pay Google for 5 days of history but that doesn’t apply to this product. Why?! We only get past 3 hours of history with this, pretty disappointing.

Have been using this door bell for almost 2 years and have never faced any issues. If you have google home then you get the notification. I have connected the door bell with the electric connection for infinite charging so that I dont have to take it down for charging it. If you are not planning to put it in place of your current door bell then you will have to take it down for charging every few month. You can easily add name to familiar faces and google home will announce their name whenever they will ring the bell. You can also assign zone so that you dont get notified for any movement outside the zone. Night view is also pretty decent, you are able to see clear image. However, the device performance i.e. battery consumption does get impacted with extreme cold temperature. Package identification is done by the bell. If well notify you if a package is delivered/ picked. If you have google home app then you get all notification on phone. Talking via doorbell is simple as well and this feature is handy if you are not at home.

It is a very nice "gadget" to have at home. It shows who's coming to the door in a very clear and timely fashion. Notifications are clear. So far hasn't given us any problem. Easy to install (we hired a company who did it for us), compatible with our existing chime bell. Highly recommended!

Easy install great if you already have Google products. I have been eyeing those door bell cameras an i got to say this is my fave. Pros: camera has a battery so it does not go down during power outage. Good video quality. Good a detention of people even at 20 ft cons: larger then most this this was the size of a small phone so peak a colors you really like. Video only last 3 hrs so if you get. Notification you better view it or loose it.

Hi Hugo333, we appreciate your feedback on Nest Doorbell (battery), and we’re glad to hear it’s your fave. Nest Doorbell (battery) is designed with a built-in rechargeable battery so that it's flexible to use with or without a wired power connection. Nest Doorbell (wired) requires it to be continuously connected to power with wires, which enables it to have a smaller profile.

Nest has long been focused on delivering quality products to our customers, and on giving our customers value for the price, including three hours of event history right out of the box for the first time ever. On-device processing also gives our customers smart alerts and Activity Zones, which historically have required a subscription. For example, Nest Cameras have person, animal, and vehicle alerts, and Nest Doorbell offers all of this plus package alerts.

Also, there are two new camera subscriptions available for you if you want more than 3 days of events video history. With a Nest Aware subscription, you’ll get 30 days of event video history, and with Nest Aware Plus, you’ll get 60 days. Nest Doorbell (battery), even when wired for continuous charging, does not offer 10 days of 24/7 video history with Nest Aware Plus.

You’re always welcome to visit us here if you have any questions or concerns: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
