This device can run on battery alone, but if you prefer it wired, it can be connected to doorbell system wires delivering 8 - 24 V AC, and at least 10 VA, 50/60Hz. Meanwhile, you might also want to check for the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) that has a voltage requirement of 16 to 24 VAC and a power requirement of 10 to 40 VA. The notification issues you are experiencing may also be related to the connectivity issue with Nest Doorbell (Battery). Here are some steps you might want to try to isolate the connectivity issue further:
- If your Wi-Fi router is dual band (supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands), we suggest connecting your Nest Doorbell (Battery) to the 2.4GHz band to get a more stable Wi-Fi signal.
- Check your Wi-Fi router's DHCP lease time for at least 2 hours. This can help ensure your Nest products stay connected to your network.
- If you have MAC address filtering enabled, the MAC addresses of your Nest camera must be added to the list of authorized devices.
- Try restarting the Nest Doorbell (Battery). Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the doorbell. Press and hold for 5 seconds. Your doorbell will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.

The battery life depends on factors including activity, temperature, and doorbell settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events to monitor specific areas. As for the battery performance in cold weather, the Nest Doorbell (battery) has an outside operating temperature range of -20°C to 40°C (-4°F to 104°F). Using the device above or below the temperature range can cause performance issues. At temperatures below freezing, the lithium-ion battery in your Google Nest doorbell won’t be able to charge. Many devices, including popular models of doorbell cameras and cell phones, use lithium-ion batteries for their high power and long life, but these batteries are also affected by temperatures below freezing. You need to bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature so the battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.
