Hi Debs, thanks for sharing your input to let us know of your issues with using the Nest Doorbell (battery). We’re sorry to hear of your difficult experience viewing camera feed, and snapping the doorbell back into place after charging.

We suggest having the latest version of the Google Home app that may improve camera playback controls to make it easier to play, pause, and navigate between events from the camera history view for cameras set up in the Google Home app. Also, if you’re using the wedge for a better camera view, make sure to install the wedge then position the baseplate plate over the wedge with the G positioned upright and use the wedge screws to secure it in place. Then attach the doorbell to the baseplate, align the circle at the bottom of the doorbell to the hole at the bottom of the baseplate, and push the doorbell in then down until you feel it click into place.

Hey there, Nola! Thanks for your feedback! The Nest Doorbell (battery) comes with three hours of event history right out of the box, which requires a subscription before. There’s no fee to stream live videos and to receive notifications, but you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to receive advanced features. If you need more than three hours of events history. We offer 2 types of recording for Nest Aware subscriptions: event video recording (30 days), or you’ll get 60 days of events history. Even when wired for continuous charging, this doorbell does not offer 10 days of 24/7 video history with Nest Aware Plus. Our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. Our teams are working on enabling the ability to set up and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices, and we’re working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams.

You can adjust your cameras’ video quality that may improve the resolution. The higher the video quality setting you choose, the sharper and more detailed your footage can be, but it also uses more of your internet bandwidth. This setting lets you pick the maximum video quality for your cameras. But whichever level you choose, your camera will automatically adjust its resolution and compression according to how much bandwidth is available. Also, you can connect a Google speaker or display and set up visitor announcements if you want to get notified when someone rings your doorbell when you’re home. You'll only get visitor announcements on your speakers and displays if they are set up in the same home as your doorbell in the Home app.

Lastly, while we expect notifications to be received instantly (or within minutes), there are several factors that may prevent this. Network delays from the camera to Google Nest’s servers, and from servers to the device affect overall delivery speed. Also, it could be with the cooldown period. Because Google Nest attempts to send you the right number of alerts at the right times, the camera will trigger a short cooldown period each time a notification is sent.
