Great camera, app could be better

I used to have a different brand camera that I really disliked after while and I was hesitant to get this Nest because it was a little more than I wanted to spent up front and monthly. I bought it to “try out” and ended up sticking with it because it was light years better than the one I had previously. The app is a little glitchy for me when someone rings the bell, it’s like a delay in opening the app to see who’s ringing…could be just my phone. I have 2 complaints. 1) the way it connects to the mount on the wall…it’s not secure…like that mechanism could’ve been built wayyyy better! 2) battery life could be a little better also. But the video is clear, the home app is solid and I connected to my google speaker which acts as a chime for my battery powered bell. I recommend.

Ding dong, who's there....Nest Doorbell Battery

I have been in the market for a video doorbell for a while and just couldn't commit to any of the available options. That was until Google released the Nest Doorbell Battery version. This is exactly what I was looking for in a well built and sleek-looking device that can run on battery or connected to existing wiring. The big advantage is the ability to just mount it and set it up without having to connect to wiring, and this is a great option. I did however end up connecting to our existing chime and wiring...more on that later. What's in the box - The Nest Doorbell, USB-C cable, a hardware kit that includes 2 wedge screws, 2 wall screws, 2 wall anchors, wire connectors and release tool), doorbell bracket and angle wedge. The angle wedge is a useful option when using an existing doorbell that is mounted off to the side of the front door. Set Up - I recently installed a couple of Nest Thermostats so was well versed on the Google Home App. This is how the Nest Doorbell is setup and couldn't bee much easier. Everything except for tools are included with the doorbell, so installation is a snap. There's an online video tutorial for installation and setup, I would recommend watching before getting started. It's a step-by-step process that's easy to follow. Simply start the setup in the Home App then install the doorbell and finish the setup in the app. You'll want to check your placement and whether the provided wedge is needed. I ended up using it so the subject is centered in the video when standing at the front door. As mentioned earlier I did end up opting for using the existing wiring from an old doorbell...that hadn't worked in years. Google provides a wire connection dongle that makes connecting the wires super convenient. The funny thing is once installation was complete, our old doorbell chimes actually work again with the Nest Doorbell...bonus! Configuration - Now that the doorbell is installed it's time to configure the system. Google added a number of features for setting alerts, video and audio recording, events and battery life. Clicking through the settings a user can set the event length recorded, video quality, video history, notifications, etc. Overall Impressions - As I have not used any previous models to compare to, I can say the Nest Doorbell Battery seems to check all the boxes. Great build quality, affordable, good looking, easy to setup and use with the Home app and the ability to customize for your particular use. The video quality is 960p which is a bit lower than most competitors, but Google improved the video quality by adding HDR and and a 1.3MP sensor. Facial recognition is also impressive. Pros: - Easy to install and configure - Runs on battery power, so no need for wiring - Video/Audio quality is great when live and when recorded - Home App to run this device as well as other non-Google devices - Automated Quick Responses Cons: - Although well built and sleek, it is a bit on the larger size The Google Nest Doorbell Battery is a great solution for most anyone looking for a video doorbell. I would recommend this unit based on its quality, ease of use and setup and the Home App support.

Well thought out upgrade to Nest Hello

Short takeaway: I feel overall this doorbell helps illustrate this awkward inbetween that Google finds itself in with the Nest lineup in what is otherwise the best wireless doorbell on the market. On a feature and usability front the wireless doorbell packs a lot of great features, can be used on any door on your house with minimum installation effort and looks great doing it. I love the Activity Zones, integrations with my Google Home Speakers and using Nest Aware (with no additional per-unit cost) with the new doorbell. It is noticeability bigger than the original Nest Hello -- Google mentioned in a FAQ they sent reviewers that this is due to the inclusion of the batteries. There are a few things that make this camera feel like one of the first products in a revamped Google Home -centric Nest approach that isn't fully at feature-parity with the Nest ecosystem its replacing -- yes that's right this doorbell does not work with the old Nest app etc. and only with Google Home. Right now some Nest devices can only be configured and receive notifications from Nest, while others only can use the Google Home app. So you must have both setup on your phone in order to get notifications at the front door with a Nest Hello and the side door with a Google Nest Doorbell Wireless. I'm also sad to note that Google Home app does not have a companion webpage or computer interface, only tablet/phone app. Google mentioned to reviewers that they know and are working on addressing this gap. Some of the configuration is less elegant and intuitive in it was in the legacy Nest interfaces. Ultimately this camera lasts wire-free at any door you like with the ability to go weeks between charges (depending on how popular you are) and provides near instance notification to your phone when something is happening. The interface to the google home app and other new Google Nest devices that are within the Home app is tighter. If you're willing to look at the features that are here and keep in mind that some of the broader Nest -> Google Home unification challenges are being addressed this is a wicked solid bell.

I wanted to replace my current camera doorbell. It is a good quality but faces another wall which I don’t like. Really wanted to try battery operated. This is a pretty easy setup from google home. By default you are signed up for for the subscription after 30 days so remember to cancel after 30 days or cancel it after you set up. It’s unfortunate you need to have the metal base to run the device as you can see in the picture. I contacted google and you have to have it. My me the picture quality was good and the audio was good. When they press the doorbell all of my google hubs ring, can be loud. I have not gotten facial recognition to work yet. As you can see in the picture it’s pretty large Do I recommend it? I guess if you know for sure how and where you want to put this up and are good with the google ecosystem

The Google - Nest Doorbell Battery should be a part of your smart home plan. Partnered with the Google Home app this gives the user the peace of mind in knowing just who has come knocking. Please note that that the Google - Nest Doorbell Battery is not compatable with the NEST app. I actually wish that it were, but maybe in a future software update. This unit is sleek and stylish but don't let its good looks fool you. This unit has everything from a 2K camera to smart device notifications which allows the user to communicate with a caller or delivery person. The settings include person, motion and package options. I love that you can use preset or prerecorded messages. The Google - Nest Doorbell Battery ties in perfectly with your own electronic chimes. One of the neatest features is that this can be installed as a battery or wired unit. I first installed as a battery unit and the Google - Nest Doorbell Battery worked flawlessly. I then installed as a wired unit taking advantage of the included wiring harness. Again the unit performed flawlessly. Installation from unboxing to first use took less than 10 minutes. The instructions mane the install child's play. So whether you prefer wired or battery installation the Google - Nest Doorbell Battery, which is available in several colors will provide a level of security that gives this homeowner peace of mind. Full disclosure, I am using the Google - Nest Doorbell Battery as a replacement for the NEST unit and I am very satisfied and feel secure in my decision. Cheers!!

I finally found an amazing doorbell, after having EUFY, four rings in the original nest hello this is the best doorbell to date super easy to put it in and I love the view I can see everything in front of my door just the way I like it. These people who don’t like it don’t know anything about doorbells it is so extremely clear the picture is so sharp I’m very happy with my purchase. I love the modern look of it other than the big thick The cigarette pack that I had on my door before. You can either hardwire it or you can use battery it’s your choice you can do both with this. The view is definitely outstanding

This is review of Google Nest Doorbell Battery. The review is based on Wired Installation, setup on Google Home on iOS 14.71, use experience for suburban area. And doesn’t meant to review the Google Home except only pertinent to the Doorbell integration and its user experience aspect. To start, would recommend to have it in charge then setup with Google Home. This is because the details for installation is included in the process of activating the device. Would be better or practical that user can see the instruction ahead of setting account and details etc without dependency on application at first. Having said that, the installation process is straight forward, wired or battery mode. Although for wired version one need to have a bit of know-how for the installed doorbell at home if doesn’t want to hire a installer. On the physical side of the hardware, it is looks slim, clean and simple as one can project from the google product photo. It is longer compared to most of known doorbell in the market. And that brings its own benefit on the quality capturing image and the button from what is visible externally. The underneath side, on how it work, it naturally reflect on the application side Google Home for controls and setting preferences. And the key feature to remark from all the options and that is practical and handy to everyday usage are: 1. Auto recording without subscription to Nest Aware service and be able set recording time range from 10 sec to 3 min, and keep saved for 3 hours. 2. Capability to download to the device the auto recording. Although it involve manual task, it is better than not having the option. 3. Live View - can have active view in real time with sound and be able to talk back. 4. Able to Zoom in on Live view mode. It provide a reasonably good zoom capability, such that can see the car detail parked at neighbors driveway cross the street. 5. Image definition during day is clear and sharp. 6. Audio quality, it is clean voice and even the noise from the street can be heard clearly in the live view mode, recording or somebody ring the bell. Conversation with visitor standing at doorbell and from phone sounds crisp. 7. Motion sensor and wake-up sensitivity for event recording is not perfect to differentiate between type of object, but works reasonably well based on preference to detect person, vehicle, package and animal. Downside: 1. Too easy to have it stolen as it is very easy to remove. As the product goes to mass availability and create knowledgeable users on the product, bad actors can too easily remove. Although understandably others models in the market have such potential to be stole, this is too easy. 2.Can’t auto save the recording on local device or third party storage service. 3. Doesn’t have options to change hours of retaining auto saved event recordings to change from 3 hours to more. 4. Night view bit grainy image. 5. Doesn’t have option to tilt side to side. 6. Can’t zoom in the recording. 7. Recording of Event’s can’t have set to AutoPlay OFF. As the list of recording appears in Full History, upon viewing the section that list recording by date and time, all of images shows in Autoplay mode. This not good at least attempting to see the list and device battery if it is a mobile phone. 8. Can’t integrate to third party security services applications like ADT, hence need to have second application. 9. Forced to use second Application Google Home if user already has Nest App. 10. Image recognition still need adjustment as it recognize kids as Package for instance just to mention a funny event. Then, a detailed observation from UI design point there seems bit of inconsistent placement of buttons. This is: Button Play/Pause/Replay. In Event Recording Details, button play, pause, replay is in the middle of the recording. For most of cases it become obstructive as can’t see the face or object that place right on the place of the buttons. But in the “Recent Events” notification from the Google Home Message, the recording has at the bottom right side for Play. But for both options would be better if it fade away during the play and appear as touch the screen. Otherwise these buttons obstruct the total view of the details. Bit more on using it feel practical than other brand in term of viewing or monitoring to complement to other security and monitoring service. And for all of its positive side might worth the try or better fit to the need if can compromise on the downside aspects.

    Great Battery Doorbell Camera

This has a good wide field of vision with excellent night vision and programmable areas of interest that helps the battery life to stretch by ignoring areas you don’t want/need to see. You can restrict or include triggers to people, animals, packages, vehicles or any movement. With the included tool, it’s easy to disconnect for charging. The battery life is good, but in busy areas set to detect any motion and the whole field of vision, it can drain quickly. Aside from knowing who is or has come to my door, I also bought this to know when, and keep an eye on, packages and my mailbox until I can collect them, which is great that the camera can be programmed to do just that. You can also communicate two ways through the camera without the doorbell being triggered, view a live feed, and save videos to your phone. There is also included a kit to turn the battery model into a hardwired model, as well as a wedge mount to have the camera face slightly to the side. As for the Google Home app, it would be nice for notification sounds to differ between the different triggered categories (people/animal/vehicle/packages) it alerts you to, and a “ding dong” sound when the doorbell is pressed. As for now all camera notifications are the same sound.

This is my second unit as the first one started to freeze up. The first unit has lasted several years so no complaints. The second unit is working fine and has pretty good camera quality day or night. Only complaint would be that sometimes the camera isn't available when trying to view. Not sure why that is. Other than that not much to complain about.

Wish I would have known/ waited for the new wired one. Even though these can be wired it's just not enough juice for whatever reason. If setting is set for battery saver it will pretty much stay charged unless a lot of activity. I would like to keep the video settings high bc low the quality is pretty grainey Also don't believe it can video 24/7 even while wired like the new one can through nest aware. Pretty good and easy to use as far as getting notifications and checking the home app to see videos. Installations also very pretty easy. Def recommend the new wired doorbell if that's what ur wanting but if you don't have the option to wire one this is a good camera.

You can't delete the videos that the doorbell records individually you have to delete everything in the library. When the camera starts to record users that approach the door it makes an audible sound and lights up. There's no controls for that in the settings other than the LED brightness which is still very bright when it's low. There should be an option to turn it off. I live in a high traffic area and I don't like constantly telling everybody in the two seconds they pass by my door that there's something going on at my front door, it just draws more attention to it. I'm trying to catch people stealing packages not alert the world that everybody's under surveillance. Other than that the quality is nice the battery life is nice and the ease of installation was super easy. It is way too expensive though. If you can get a Chromecast for 20 bucks you should be able to pick up a Google doorbell for 70 bucks. Lastly I had to set this up in my Google home app which I rarely if ever use. So the home app recognized the doorbell twice, once as a Google Assistant speaker which is stupid and two as a doorbell. I didn't even realize I was casting audio through my doorbell until I deleted the audio casting device, completely unrelated from the doorbell, from Google home. I don't understand why Google has such a high R&D environment to put out such mediocre devices. Oh that's right they're just minding your data and giving you the least value.

    Serious compromises dramatically reducing value

This is my first doorbell camera and being already invested somewhat in the Nest ecosystem (3 Thermostats, Chromecast, Google Home Speaker) I decided to pay the premium for this unit. I thought that the versatility of the doorbell working with the internal battery or with wires would be worth the price. However, Google decided for some absolutely unexplainable compromises that drastically reduce the value of this doorbell. First, this is a large device.... it is somewhat obnoxious, although installation is easy and as previously mentioned the versatility of working powered by your doorbell wiring (if supported) or by the internal battery is definitively a plus. Video quality is good and the wide-angle camera has an appropriate field-of-view for a doorbell camera. The notification system through the google home app is robust and configurable - you can customize notifications of activity inside and/or outside one custom pre-defined zone. So far so good. My grudge with the Nest Doorbell Wired is really because of some frustrating decisions by Google which in my opinion are probably NOT the result of hardware limitations. The most absurd of them all is that the doorbell only registers 3 hours of activity. So if there is activity while you are sleeping (let's be honest, when probably it is most important for you to monitor) you are out of luck - you will have a notification but won't be able to see the recording of that notification unless if you happen to check the google home app within these 3 hours. The other issue I have with this doorbell is that there is no way to cast the feed to your TV or computer or any other device outside your phone (=small image). It should be a no brainer to see the feed on your TV as that sometimes is the most convenient screen - the device can stream to your phone, so why would not be possible to stream to a chromecast for instance? All in all it is just an OK device that could be potentially a winner had not Google choose to software-limit its abilities.

Hi AbUrbeCondita2725, thanks for investing high on Google products, and for sharing a review to let us know the details of your experience with the Nest Doorbell (Battery). We’re sorry to learn of your issues with its functionalities.

The Nest Doorbell (Battery) is the first battery-powered doorbell created by Google. Unlike the previous Nest Doorbell Wired (formerly Nest Hello) with still images up to 3 hours, the new Nest Doorbell (Battery) comes with free 3 hour event-based video history. There's no fee to stream full resolution live video and receive basic notifications, as long as your camera is connected to the internet. However, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription to record video and receive advanced notifications. With a Nest Aware subscription your video will be saved to the cloud and you’ll get extra features.

Nest Aware is a paid subscription service you can use with your Nest products to help keep you informed about important events at your home. With Nest Aware, you’ll get 30 days of event video history, and with Nest Aware Plus, you’ll get 60 days. Check what you can get with the Nest Aware subscription, here’s the link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233159

Also there are some compute limitations on some versions of Chromecast that do not allow us to support this yet, but we’re aiming to add support as soon as possible.

For any concerns about the doorbell, please don't hesitate to contact us and we’ll definitely help you the best way we can: https://support.google.com/chromecast/gethelp Nest

It's pretty good, and this is probably the doorbell I'd recommend of the ones I looked at, but I have a couple complaints. When mounting it, it's easy for one of the screws to interfere with being able to snap/lock the doorbell onto its mount. One of my mounting screws was sticking out just slightly more, and it wouldn't work, until I removed the 2 screws on the doorbell for the doorbell wires which I wasn't using. I have no idea how it would all fit together if I was using those. As for the good, I have no complaints with the software. It's able to notify my phone, and both my Nest Mini and Alexa devices, and it activates quickly. The video quality is good. It does a good job detecting packages and stuff like that. There haven't been any "false alarms" where it activates when nobody is actually there. Even if you don't pay for the subscription (I don't) you still get 3 hours of saved history which I believe Ring does not offer, and is good enough for me. My biggest complaint is the battery life. They advertise 2.5 months for "typical" use, which my household falls under. So far, I seem to only be getting about 2-3 weeks which is well below what is advertised. I know the cold weather can reduce the battery life, but the temperature has mostly been between 20-40F, which is not horribly cold, so having the battery life be so much worse than advertised is a bummer. Almost makes me wonder if it's defective. At least it's pretty easy to recharge.
