Hi Randrew3, thanks for posting your feedback about your experience with using the Nest Doorbell (Battery), and we’re sorry to hear that the battery needs to recharge every week.

Your Nest doorbell could be detecting a lot of activities, as the battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and doorbell settings that you select. You can extend the battery life of your doorbell by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611

If you have to charge the battery more often than you should, you may consider connecting your doorbell to a power outlet with the included or optional power adapter. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Doorbell (battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use. You can also connect your Nest doorbell to the doorbell system wires if you have one. Connecting to continuous power will keep the battery charged.

We can also check for other reasons why the battery needs to be recharged every week, so we can find a way to help improve your experience. We encourage you to contact us anytime here for further isolation and troubleshooting: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi ShaneL, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the battery for your Nest Doorbell (Battery) doesn't last long enough.

For Nest Doorbell (Battery), battery life will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. You can extend the battery life by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios:
Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day)
Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day)
Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

We recommend checking the frequency of events (per day) that you get with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). If the short battery life isn´t related to the frequency of events, then we may need to have a closer look at your device and understand what may be causing it. I received the new Google Nest Doorbell and charged it for 15 hours. I tried multiple times to connect it to the Google Home app, but kept receiving a "Something Went Wrong" message. Google customer help is non-existent. I was directly to a message board where other people had the same problem and there were no solutions. I will try to return it to Best Buy.

I’m not a fan of this doorbell camera, especially when compared to the original nest doorbell cam. The video quality isn’t great and you can’t record 24/7 even with a nest subscription and using wired mode. It does work as expected when detecting people and objects and works pretty well most of the time. I’m also not a fan of using the Google home app instead of the nest app because you have a lot more clicks to get to your video feed.

Hi MichaelG, we greatly appreciate the feedback you shared about the Nest Doorbell (battery) and we’re sorry to learn your expectations are not met. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. Our teams are working on enabling the ability to set up and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices, and we’re working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app as we want to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices. While the new Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app, users with previous versions of Nest cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams.

The Nest Doorbell (battery), even when wired for continuous charging, does not offer 10 days of 24/7 video history with Nest Aware Plus. But your doorbell should still have event video history which will be deleted on a rolling basis after a certain number of days depending on which Nest Aware subscription that you have.

Also, video quality issues can be related to several factors. If you're experiencing a spotty connection or weak signal, we recommend checking your Wi-Fi network to see if your bandwidth is congested. This may happen if you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network. Removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion. If your camera is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.

We're always here to help you improve your experience. If you run into an issue with your Nest Cam and with using it effectively in the Google Home app, please feel free to find us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi Rpatx1, thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the new Nest Doorbell (Battery) didn’t meet your expectations.

The new Nest Doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app.

We value your feedback and for helping us understand our customers' needs and preferences better, and we'll make sure to pass it along to our teams as we're always working to improve our products and services. If this is your first video doorbell and you're not in an existing ecosystem of technology, then you'll probably love the Google Doorbell. I have been using Nest products for years and currently have 4 cameras, 3 CO2/Smoke detectors, the smart lock, thermostat, nest secure, and formerly the Nest Hello Doorbell that this replaced. We also have Nest hubs, smart speakers, chromecast, pixel phones. I mean we're all in on the Google/Nest ecosystem. So I was really excited to get this new doorbell and install it. First of all, this thing is huge compared to the Nest Hello. However, because it's white, it matches the trim on the door and doesn't stand out as much as the all black Hello did. There are also various other colors depending on where you're putting it, or if you just want to add some flair. Installation was straightforward and simple, and because I'm familiar with the Google Home app, setup was very simple. I was loving everything about this until I tried to adjust settings and look at the history. Google has a subscription program where you pay an annual fee to have non-stop video footage from the prior 10 days, along with 60 days of event history. If you have a bunch of cameras (as I do) then it's a great service. The fewer cameras you have, the less cost effective it is. Because this doorbell is designed around the battery, it does not allow for use of the Nest Aware subscription or it's 10 day history. You get event recording for free, but that's it and only if the camera picks up the thing happening and records it. To me, this is the camera's biggest flaw. I understand that in a battery only situation, it would kill the battery life. However, they designed this doorbell to be hardwired. It makes no sense that in a hardwired configuration it won't allow for the continuous recording. That is a software update that Google needs to make in order to make this the doorbell camera that it could be. If they make that update, I'll go to 4 stars. If they allow it to be controlled in the Nest app, instead of Google Home, it's 5+ stars. I'll say it again. If this is your first and only video doorbell, and you're a renter and want to use the battery powered option, it's probably the best option out there at the moment. My reason for the 3 stars is that Google essentially took the Nest doorbell, made improvements to the hardware, then released the new version under the Google brand name with less functionality than the prior generation and a more cluttered app experience. That's the bad news. The good news is that these are things that Google can easily fix via updates, so hopefully they're listening and take the feedback seriously. I would recommend it to anyone other than people who already have the Nest Hello Doorbell.

Hi there cusedice, thanks for being an advocate of our products, and we truly appreciate your detailed feedback on Nest Doorbell (Battery). We’re sorry for the limited support on both the Nest app and the 10-day 24/7 video history.

Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and the Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Also, here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app:
      - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup.
      - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, "Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup.
      - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps.
      - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.

Your Nest Doorbell (battery) comes with package detection, person detection, animal detection, vehicle detection, including intelligent alerts, and activity zones even without an active subscription. Even though you won't get 10 days of 24/7 video history, you still get 30 days of event video history with an active subscription of Nest Aware, and 60 days of event video history with the Nest Aware Plus. If you are interested in 24/7 continuous video history, you may want to consider our wired Nest Hello Doorbell.

We’ve taken a note of your feedback and we’ll make sure this gets passed along to the right team since we’re always looking for opportunities to improve our products and services. I setup a zone that covers my front door to the end of my driveway which includes people, vehicle and deliveries. I had a UPS and FedEx delivery, both times the trucks pulled in my driveway, and they left large boxes on my front steps. Both times this doorbell failed to alert or record history for any of the 3 events I assigned. Going to be sending this back, obviously not going to keep something that can do the simplest of tasks that it was designed for.

Hi JayShomp, thanks for making us aware about the issues you’ve encountered with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). It’s unfortunate to learn that your doorbell failed to alert or record history when events occurred. This is not the experience we want you to have. Nest cameras are designed to alert you when they detect important activity, even without a subscription.

We recommend checking if your device is connected to your Wi-Fi network and the network is connected to the internet. You may need to move your camera or change something in the camera’s view to improve motion detection results. You can also change your camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activities. If notifications are turned on, check whether similar activities had recently occurred in your camera’s video history:

      *Seen activity types
Tap the switch next to each type of notification to enable or disable alerts for things like motion, people, or animals. This list can vary depending on your camera or doorbell model and if you have an Aware subscription.

      *Away-only notifications
Tap the switch to enable or disable away-only notifications. When this is on, you can only receive camera alerts when your home is set to Away. So if someone is home, you won’t get notifications about activity from your camera.

We’d like to have a closer look to find out what went wrong so we can help improve your experience and if you’re willing, you may visit us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
