Very hopeful but disappointing in the end

I have hundreds of pieces of smart home tech all centered around Google assistant and our various Google homes throughout our house. When our old Ring doorbell died, I was very excited to preorder and get the new Google Nest Doorbell Battery edition as soon as it came out. It was super easy to install and setup. It looked fantastic and we always got comments about how good it looked. After two months though, the problems started. Eventually, the retractable part that holds the doorbell to the base (so that you can remove it to charge it) stopped retracting. Luckily, Google Support was right on it and I got a new one in a few days. The new one was just as easy to get setup. Unfortunately, in another month, I received the dreaded "Your doorbell is offline due to a battery issue. Please contact Google Support." I contacted Google Support and they helped me out right away. I received the replacement in a few days and it was easy as can be to setup like before. This time, I received the "Your doorbell has a battery issue" message in 7 days... I called Google Support this time and they were not so helpful anymore. They drug things out for weeks and ultimately they said that there is nothing they can do because I am out of the support window. This unit clearly has quality control issues. I am at a loss now. 5 months later and $200 spent - I have nothing to show for it. Never have been as disappointed with a smart home product as I have been with this one.

I’m glad Google finally came out with a battery powered doorbell. Only thing that’s held me back from getting off of ring since I live in an apartment. I don’t like how big it is. It’s a lot larger than I thought. Overall great quality footage though and I’m happy it’s on Google home app not the nest app. Nest would log me out all the time for my learning thermostat

Great option for those who haven’t yet purchased a doorbell. Not sure if this is enough to switch if you already have one. If you have other Google products then this works perfectly with the others. It is massive compared to other doorbells of its kind. Not sure why they made it so big. I say if you have the ability to have a wired connection then go with the Nest Hello. If you don’t then this is still a good option. Picture quality is just ok to me. Love the facial recognition feature. If you assign a name to a face then your other Google products, like a Google home, will announce the person’s name when the camera recognizes them. Very cool feature. If you don’t have Google home then the notification will still allow you to assign a name to a face.

Hi Moha, thanks for sharing the issue with your Nest Doorbell (Battery) with us. We're sorry to hear that it keeps disconnecting and that you're not able to continuously record videos.

Connectivity issues with Nest cameras and doorbells are mostly related to possible congestion in your network, or that your bandwidth may not be sufficient. Removing some of your connected devices may help relieve some bandwidth space, and you may check if you still experience any drop with the video quality. Verifying congestion may require you to contact your Internet service provider to check your connection and upgrade it if needed.

Nest Doorbell (Battery)’s built-in rechargeable battery provides a convenient, wire-free installation. To optimize battery life, it offers event video history and will detect and capture important activity at your door. If you are interested in 24/7 continuous video history, please consider one of our wired Nest cameras or Nest Doorbell (wired).

If the disconnection issue persists, please consider reaching out to our support team for further assistance. We may need to troubleshoot and isolate the issue further in order for us to come up with the best course of action to your problem. I have to say I’m intimidated by anything that requires me to break out power tools to install. It usually results in frustration, injury, and a product that never works quite right. Probably the very best thing about this product was how thorough the step by step instructions were for installation and how comfortable i felt during the entire process. Setup is a breeze and it only took a couple clicks to configure features like activity zone so my neighbors walking by wouldn’t set off the push notifications. The package detection function is spot on - i don’t even know how it sees what it sees but it definitely works like magic. I also appreciate that i can easily remove the unit to charge instead of burning through batteries every so many weeks. This is a thoughtful feature that I wish my door lock had since it likes to eat batteries often. A few things if you’re an iOS user - it takes a step or two to get to the video feed if someone is at your door. I’d recommend considering a nest hub or hub max in the places you sit most often so that the video pops right up.

bought this a little less than a month ago, easy to set up, I love the field of vision at the 3:4 aspect ratio I think it makes the most sense . If you have security cameras that do wide angle than this is the better choice since it's captures more top to bottom of your porch and peoples faces etc. We used to have the Ring battery, but notifications were slow , I mean really slow. jumping into live video was painful. I mean it would but if there was ever a stranger lurking around it would almost be useles. and recording quality was meh. This is for the Ring battery I can't comment on some of their higher end ones. A friend bought this so he let me test it out and It's just faster. I would get a notification within 3 seconds of the event. and the notification gives you a clip which is nice and has facial recogniztion. and punching into live video is fast. And the video quality is just nicer, a lot nicer than on the ring. We've had a little less than a month so and so far so good, really enjoying it

OMG!!! From the moment you unbox this wireless video doorbell from Google Nest.... words just can't express the complete ease of this product. The elegance of the packaging, the slim and sleek design of the product, and the ease of setup and instillation is phenomenal. I have used a lot of wireless devices to secure your home and this has by-far exceeded my expectations. The package contains the doorbell, mounting kit (including a wedge if needed), and all the hardware. The setup is phenomenally quick and the quality of the video is amazing. You are alerted every time it senses someone, someone with a package etc. If the button is pressed an alert is sent to your phone or smart device. You can select a quick response and the doorbell will say something like, "Thanks, just leave the package", something like that. Two-way talking is amazing. I really have ZERO negative things to say. I would like to say that I would recommend this doorbell to anyone and I would get twenty more if I could!

Not an upgrade from Nest Hello (wired version)

I've had this installed for about a week, after having a Nest Hello wired doorbell for the past year and I have a Nest Aware subscription. TL;DR Version - Good if you do not have a wired doorbell that you're replacing, or you don't want to pay for a Nest Aware subscription, otherwise go with the Nest Hello wired version instead. I replaced my existing wired Nest Hello with this doorbell and after using it for a week, I've decided to switch back to the original Nest Hello. The improvement in the package detection and camera angle is not worth the loss in functionality of the 24/7 recording that the wired Nest hello offers (with a Nest aware subscription). It would be a great choice if, when installed with a wired connection, you could still keep 24/7 video recording, but alas, that's not available regardless of if the doorbell is wired or not. This is a great choice for a video doorbell if you don't have a doorbell wire (such as an external gate) and/or don't want to pay for a Nest Aware subscription (since it inlcudes the 3 hours of event history for free). Just keep in mind that Nest offers no way to "ring" your home doorbell, so you're forced to rely on your phone app (Google Home only), or use a Nest Hub to view the doorbell feed. Overall, it's a great choice if battery power is your only option, otherwise, since they dropped the price of the Nest Hello to match this, there's really no advantage to the battery vs. wired if you have a wired connection available.

Hi Raiders, thanks for letting us know about the challenges you experienced with your Nest Doorbell (Battery). We understand how difficult it can be for some of our users to lose the 24/7 video recording functionality.

Your Nest Doorbell (battery)’s built-in rechargeable battery provides a convenient, wire-free installation. To optimize battery life, it offers event video history and will detect and capture important activity at your door, so you can focus on the details that need your attention. However, since you are interested in 24/7 continuous video history, moving back to the wired Nest Hello Doorbell will be a better choice for your needs.

In the meantime, we hope you will keep enjoying the reliability of your Nest Hello Doorbell, and if you have any questions you would like us to help you, you're always welcome to contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I love my google Nest doorbell camera. Especially that it runs on a battery. It is so convenient my house is very old and did not want to spend the money it would cost to have someone come out and fix the old wires to the doorbell that no longer work. This was the perfect solution took me about 15 minutes to install and set up. After that I was off and running. Everything ok it has worked great so far and the notifications are quick and it’s easy for me to acces the app and watch what is happening I’m live. I could not recommend this more. Highly recommended if your looking for a doorbelll camera.

I've owned Nest products long before Google acquired the company. I'd categorize myself as a power-user of Nest devices and believe they are superior to their competitors. I have a Nest doorbell, two thermostats, three smoke/CO2 detectors and two video cameras. I wanted to add this new doorbell to my Nest network as will be used as the doorbell for a second home. Since there was "Nest" branding all over the packaging, I thought this doorbell would be an easy addition to my Nest network via the Nest app. That changed when I realized that you can only add this next-gen device to the Google Home app. This is disappointing as the Nest app is superior to the Google Home app. I have extensive experience in website and app usability. The Nest app is far more intuitive than the Google Home app. The Google Home app is cluttered with additional icons which I don't use. The Nest app uses iconography which is clear and intuitive. It also groups icons in various rooms close together for easy access to adjust the temperature if needed while I check my video devices. The next-gen doorbell seems to be a great device. It can operate via battery or can be hardwired. It is larger and more sturdy than the last generation. One big disappointment is the temperature range of -4 to 104 degrees. That doesn't cut it when I own homes in the upper midwest where the temps can go down to 40 below and our other home is in Arizona where the temps can reach 120+ degrees. Google is limiting their potential customer base by not engineering the specs to reach into the extreme highs and lows of wether patterns across the country. I hope Google makes changes on the specs and the usability (via the Google Home app). In short, this is a great doorbell but it is only as great as the software and usability that goes along with using it via the app. Google/Nest engineers need to solve this and enable usage through the Nest App.

Hi Nabob, thanks for being a long time Nest user and for sharing your feedback with us about your Nest Doorbell (Battery). It’s unfortunate to learn of your disappointment with the Google Home app and with the operating temperature range of the doorbell. We’re listening to our customers' feedback to better understand our customers’ preferences and needs.

Our teams are working on enabling the ability to setup and control older Nest cameras in the Home app so users will have one app to control all of their devices. We’re also working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Nest and smart home devices.

In the meantime, if you have any concerns about the Nest doorbell or any of your Nest devices, let us know and we’d be happy to help you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I was really excited to get this doorbell, because of the sheer size alone! I'm a pretty big guy, and I like pretty big things. So when I got it I hardwired it where my old doorbell was and got everything working with the app. I like Google products and I really like the fact that some of the features were free, unlike some of the other cameras I've used in the past. What I didn't like was the fact that the picture was longer up and down and not side to side. I really like the wider angle cameras much better, especially when it's my porch, because I have so much more to cover wider range then higher range. I thought the video was so so, okay, but so so. The night vision was pretty good, even though my previous camera had both a better picture at night vision and during the day. Overall I still think it's a pretty good doorbell and the price is cheaper, but remember, you get what you pay for. I plan to put this camera in the back of the house were I also have it wired for a doorbell. Overall, I would still recommend this doorbell.

First setup was ridiculously hard. Pointing back to google home and to nest in circles. Video and audio quality is decent. I am using it to cover my parking space and it does great job. One thing that I love about it is that it could be wired and/or run on the internal battery as well. I don’t know any other products that can do that. Pros: Could be wired or run on battery Decent video Decent audio Cons: Setup was little bit complicated

I love my doorbell. Yes it's different from the Ring doorbell which I had for four years but lagged and skipped all the time. I would see people going but not coming, really weird. The Google doorbell DOES NOT do this at all. The only downfall is that the app takes some getting use to. Other than the app the doorbell does what you pay for. Picture quality I think is slightly better than Ring. I with Google makes a removable battery doorbell in the future. Battery does not take long to charge. I love it so far.

Install was easy enough, had a minor issue with setup but easily resolved. Picture and sound quality are excellent, very clear images of people and packages. I like how it links to my phone and that I can use the Google home as a speaker for a doorbell chime. My only concern is that it's easily removed so theft could be an issue.

While the Google Nest doorbell worked well initially, there were some flaws ~1 year into buying this product that led me to a "do not buy" rating. 1. The doorbell battery doesn't last. While the product says that the doorbell can be wired and this is true, the battery lasted about a year before it stopped working and wouldn't charge. If the doorbell can't charge, it won't work, even though there is a wired connection. 2. The app interface to get to the doorbell is not good quality. The Google Home App is below expectations and is pretty lousy for a company that has historically been great. 3. Notifications did not go through to my phone on a consistent basis. Sometimes folks had to ring my doorbell to get a notification sent to my phone, even though it is supposed to identify folks when going up to my door. The pluses for this product are that the camera quality is great (when it works)
