This phone is great and I like it a lot. I bought it unlocked so I enjoy the freedom of taking it to any carrier. I also really, REALLY enjoy the camera which was my main reason for upgrading. I'm still getting used to it after having a Galaxy for so many years. For example, there is no blinking light for notifications! I really wish there was a way to implement this as opposed to watching my screen. I also had to get used to there being no button on to push at the bottom of the phone for the home screen. I did initially have some bugs (like the phone cut completely off and wouldn't turn on) in the beginning. Hopefully, these have now work themselves out and it's smooth sailing.

The Google 3A is just as good as the $1000.00 plus phones but I got it for less than $300.00 BRAND NEW! Couldn't pass it up. The picture quality is amazing! Best phone I ever owned.

I did pretty extensive research on which phone to buy next after my HTC U11 began to have some serious issues. I looked at Motorola, Nokia, OnePlus, Samsung, and Pixel. The Pixel 3a would be the one phone mentioned in almost every review about a mid-range phone. It just seemed unbeatable. So I took a chance and bought one. I immediately fell in love with it. Smooth performance, quick and responsive, fantastic camera, monthly updates, and audio jack! It checks almost every box for me. You won't regret buying this phone.

Very happy with this phone I've owned for about a month now. Looks and feels like a top-tier model, with a mid-tier price. I didn't want to go much larger than my S7, and this works fine. No duplicate apps like with Samsung phones. Only negative is the slight lag on the internet, but I don't use a phone for power surfing anyway. It checks all the boxes for me.

    A Preliminary Review

    Posted .

Right off the bat, I want to say that this phone has exceeded all of my expectations of it. Over the 3 days that I have had this phone, it has exceeded my expectations. This is a $399 phone from Google. I never thought that I would see this day come again after Google abandoned its aggressive Nexus line of phones years ago. Something else I never thought I would see again on a Google phone: It has a headphone jack! The Pixel 3a is almost everything that its bigger siblings are. It has the great Google software, outstanding camera (and this cannot be emphasized enough), great and reliable fingerprint scanner, and great display at $399. (At the time of this review, Best Buy also offers a $100 gift card with purchase) It is lacking, in comparison to the regular Pixels, in specific areas. It does not offer any water resistance (though there are rubber gaskets), it does not offer wireless charging, it does not offer a premium metal and glass build, and it does not offer a top shelf processor from Qualcomm. Each of the things that I stated are things that I have become used to with my S10 Plus, another high end flagship phone, but at the same time I really did not miss them all that much on this Pixel. The waterproofing has not been an issue for me, I did not make us of wireless charging all that much, and I actually was relieved at the fact that I did not have to clean the back of my phone of fingerprints twice a day. Processor: The Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor that is found in this phone is a mid-range chip. Yes, it is not as fast as the modern flagship phones, but it really is not far off. For the average phone buyer, they will consider this phone to be "fast." I am confident in this claim. Google's software is just as snappy as you would expect. This phone is not lacking as a modern device, and certainly not so at $399. Battery life: This phone does have a middle of the road battery capacity for 2019 standards. However, the 3000mAh battery paired with the lower power processor make for some excellent all-day battery life. I easily got through my day of medium usage with >25% battery left. It even got me through 2 days of light usage on a single charge. This phone also comes with an 18W fast charger. Outstanding, and very comparable to my Galaxy S10 Plus with a massive 4100mAh battery! Overall Pros: -$399 -outstanding camera -fast, despite mid-range processor -great display -great battery life -stereo speakers -3.5mm headphone jack -guaranteed software updates for 2 years (3 for security updates) Overall cons: -no waterproofing -no wireless charging -no glass/metal build (plastic) -overall longevity not tested Tl;dr The Pixel 3a is everything that was already great about the Pixel 3, but now in a cheaper package. Pixel 3a is a $399 phone, but not $400 less of a phone than the $799 Pixel 3. I truly recommend that everyone considers this device if they are in the market for a new, quality phone. Now I've written a lot and I don't expect everyone to read this far down, but as the title suggests, this is a preliminary review of this phone. I plan to come back and either reaffirm my current opinions, or add on new opinions that I have formed after more time with the device.
