This Cell Phone is GREAT! Works well and my wife loves it!

Overall it is a nice phone but it really doesn’t provide anything to make it fall into the “must have” category. In comparing the Pixel 4 to my Samsung S8, that I have had for 2 years, I would still pick the S8. It is nice to have phone unlocked and be able to use any carrier you chose and being able to use Android system without any “versioning” by a carrier is a great feature - and I think you are guaranteed at least 2 more version updates as well, directly from Google? My 2 biggest issues are; 1) No micro-sd slot to add storage. I have a 200GB in my S8 as well as the initial 64GB. 2) The 4’s face recognition works really well and it is nice to just pick up the phone and have it unlocked. But since it has no finger print ID once unlocked you will have to manually enter an ID and password for any app requiring you to sign in. That’s really painful. Additional musings; I tried the hand gestures for a day or two but at certain times they just didn’t do what I wanted/expected. So, I went into settings and put back the 3 row buttons. They worked as expected. No dongle included in 4 to allow for wired headphone use. You can buy one for relatively low cost, but why not just include it. They did include USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter as well as 40-inch USB-C cable and charger. Comes with 64GB of storage but I checked available space after initially turning on the phone and 17.65 was already being used by phone/system. Camera is nice and it took excellent photos/videos and can do 4K. But I was not able to find anywhere I could set exact resolution (could only choose full or medium). The lenses stick out from the phone and I think without a case they could be easily scratched/damaged when setting phone down. To me the phone feels unbalanced with most of the weight in the upper left corner due to the lenses. I found it to be a tad slick as well to pick-up or hold (without case). Astrophotography does take nice night time pictures (live in AZ). But how many pictures of the sky will an average person take? Wifi is 5G (802.11ac) not 6G (802.11ax), why? Battery life seems to be a tad short compared to my S8. Pixel 4 has a 2800 mAh battery, my S8 has 3000mAh and I believe the 4 xl has 3700mAh. 90Hz screen looks great but it eats up the battery. The phone automatically selects between 90Hz or 60Hz to save battery. Since I don’t really game on my phone, I set to 60Hz all the time. You go to Settings > Display > Advanced > Smooth Display). You can set it to 90Hz all the time but you need to use developer access. 1-year warranty Considering all of the above I don’t think I would recommend the phone as I would not purchase it.

The Pixel 4 is a good phone and is better than the Pixel 3. The difference between 3 and 4 though is not staggering and not enough to warrant an upgrade. If you're coming from the 1 or 2 then it is advisable to upgrade to the 4. One great aspect of the Pixel 4 is the 90hz smooth display. It is definitively noticeable from a traditional 60hz screen and apps flow smooth. One thing I have been reading a lot is about the terrible battery life of the phone but I have experienced nothing but phenomenal battery life. The first day I received it I charged it to 100% and didn't need to charge it until the 2nd night. I was really impressed. I am not constantly on my phone because I do work during the day and only really use it on breaks. During the weekend and if I go out I use it for sending messages, watching videos, and scrolling through social media. I am not a power hungry user so for me the battery life is great. I also don't take too many photos and make sure my location isn't being accessed if it doesn't need to be by every single app. Motion sense was a real gimmick to me and it didn't work all the time so I turned it off. You can also have the phone sense when you're about to pick it up so it can use face unlock but I turned this off as well because I keep my phone next to me at work and I am constantly moving so it never turned off. I would assume these features would kill the battery as well. Overall, the way I use my phone works for me and leaves me with plenty of battery to last 1 full day/night and a little extra. The main feature of this phone is the camera and to no surprise it works great. It is similar to the Pixel 3 with great HDR and balance plus amazing night photography. If you are getting this phone just for the camera then you won't be disappointed. Portrait mode is still clean and now with added telephoto zoom lens you can get clearer zoomed in shots. Unless I'm at a ball game or in nature, I don't use zoom but to each their own. Some things I do miss or wish this phone had was a finger print sensor, expandable storage, headphone jack, and back/home buttons! The face unlock works about 90 percent of the time which is good but finger print sensor for me worked 99 percent of the time. I also used the finger print sensor for security log in on apps and to swipe down the notification tray. It is annoying that it is gone but I will adapt. The headphone jack is just wishful thinking as I know it's not coming back as well as expandable storage. This version is only 64GB and I already used up 60% of it. The back and home buttons are gone on this version of android and the Pixel 4 combination. I do not understand why it had to go but now you have to swipe from the edge of the device towards the middle of the screen to go back. I will accidentally go back on apps when swiping through photos or songs and it gets very annoying. My overall opinion of the phone is positive and I would give it a B-. This is the smaller of the two phones released and I am happy with it. The price is the lowest option and I would not advise anyone to spend on the higher tiers because there are better options out there for phones. If you were to buy a Pixel 4, this is the one to get. You'll get the full experience and spend the least amount of money for it. If you care about storage then this will not be the phone for you. If you can manage with 64GB until your next upgrade then you will be just fine and enjoy using this phone just as I have. Don't forget you can upload all photos to the cloud so you don't use up any photo storage. PS. Google software is as good as it gets. The assistant is only getting smarter and more convenient. I can't get enough of the Android experience and Pixel is at the front lines for upgrades.
