An excellent Phone upgrade from the Pixel 2 XL

The Latest and greatest Pixel 4 phone is here! I Pr-ordered it to take advantage of Best Buy's $100 gift card and was eagerly awaiting my phone! Then finally! Where to start, the camera for pictures in all of the modes is amazing! There is so much detail and the pics are very share-worthy! The Video is just "OK" since it is not 4k60fps. The battery optimization is superb - Did a bunch of driving in a large city and didn't have to worry about the battery dying on me - Easily lasts a good day (depending on use) at 90 Hz. Again, don't play 3 hours of PUBG and expect to have a full battery. The unlocking and gestures are somewhat hit/miss - I guess a future software rollout will fix these issues. I upgraded for several reasons - 1. 90 hz. So nice and fluid 2. Astral Photography and the camera - Moon/star photos are **out of this world** 3. Battery - 3700 4. Noticeably faster processor 5. 6GB of RAM. I wish that google had done some things to make this better and these are my gripes with the phone. 1. 8 and 10 GB of RAM on the P4 and P4xl. 2. 4500 Battery 3. 855+ processor vs the 855. 4. 128GB NOT NOT NOT 64. If google did all of this, they'd be good to go. Unfortunately, Google will do the Googly thing - squeeze and optimize from average specs. All nice and admirable, but at the end of the day good software with good specs will win over people. Samsung - Great specs, horrible software. Google - average specs with excellent software.

This phone is great. I know a lot of people like to talk about the Pixel 4 and how it could have been better but I like to think what they did with this phone was an interesting experiment that works. Trust me when I say that you have to really own it to know what I'm talking about. The camera is superb. The screen is phenomenal. The face unlock is lightning fast and the updates come about every month sometimes with new features added. The list goes on and on. The Pixel 4 does well with it user interaction especially with the Google Assistant. There are bugs that occur here and there but what phone doesn't. The only problems that I have with the phone mostly stem from the low battery life and the ridiculously small battery size. In 2019 there was no excuse for having a phone with a 3800 mAH battery on a phone that is 6.4". Other than the Pixel 4 XL is a great device that deserves to be given a chance.

I love my Pixel 4 XL! Fast speed phone all the way around and has great apps. The speaker volume and quality is excellant. The cameras are awesome. Excellant quality; regular and zoomed photos, The photo turn-outs are amazing. I like the phone dimensions. I have small hands and it fits comfortably in one hand. The New Google Assistant and wave feature are both a huge bonus, Both work awesome and are fast. After experiencing these features on my Pixel 4 XL, I do not want to be without them. I was very fortunate to land an "OpenBox" phone. I paid less for phone due to this and have had zero issues with my phone. Thank You Best Buy! I have Google Fi for a service provider and so far I am extremely pleased with my reception, plan, updates and support.

Great phone overall. The screen is much better than past pixel phones, but doesn't get as bright as it needs to be outdoors. The software is great. Fast an fluid. The camera is great as always. The one downside is the battery life on the phone. It seems worse than my pixel 2 XL was when I first got it. The smooth display really drains it. I also find the soli radar sensor to be a good addition but under utilized from a practical user standpoint. The storage is 64gb with 6gb of RAM which is underwhelming to say the least in a 2019 phone. Overall, the pixel is still a great phone for people looking for the best software experience from android with great support for updates and security.

    Amazing Android Experience

Yes, this phone is relatively short on battery, storage, and lack of ultra-wid. And these spec shortages may make some people upset. But when I leave them aside, I really enjoy more practical things which this phone can do: easy control of light balance when I take a photo, live caption for watching a video without turning up the sound, adaptive battery which makes the battery life much longer, and a stunningly fast Google assistance. I know this phone works. I made this upgrade from a previous pixel model. It is fascinating how Google integrates the hardware and software together to achieve a better, top-class Android Experience. The tech spec indeed is an important part of a phone, but Google's computation behind it truly makes a difference.

This is easily Google's best-ever phone. The hardware is sleek and efficient, and Android 10 runs brilliantly. Google's little additions to the software differentiate it, face unlock works incredibly well, and this is the best Android camera available in all lighting. But the battery life is frustratingly bad, and it's hard not to feel short-changed paying this much for weak RAM and storage.

I switched to a Pixel 4 from a Pixel 2. While the phone was great, the battery life was horrendous. Would hardly last from 7am to 5pm, and I don't even stream videos or play games on my phone. Ended up returning that and getting the 4 XL during Black Friday. With the $200 off it cost me the same as the Pixel 4 had at launch but it's so much better. The battery easily lasts the full day, usually have >20% by bedtime. Face unlock works smoothly, motion sense is great and the camera is top notch if not THE best in the market.

Mixed Quality - very good software but hardware is

Good news and bad news: Starting with the bad: Screen Quality: Very poor durability with the screen quality. Using this phone along side my work iPhone 8, the pixel 4 XL has developed several micro scratches on the screen in less than 2 months! I'm shocked at how easily this phone scratches with 0 drops, 0 contact with sharp objects. Buyer be aware! Do not buy unless you put on a screen protector! Battery Life: Mediocre battery life. It lasts me from morning through about 6pm before requiring recharge. My iPhone 8 and past Moto X4 have battery life. Other Tech specs: nothing special for a premium phone (we're paying for the software). The hardware is below average when compared to other flagship phones. Good news: The software: OS is virgin Android always with the latest and greatest updates much sooner than other Android phones without being filled with bloatware (especially if you purchase with Google Fi as a carrier) The camera: Computational photography on this phone is great. Even with average camera hardware specs, thanks to the software, computational photography is able to achieve amazing quality of photos.

    Best Android OS IMO

I've used samsung, One+ and others and always end up using Novalauncher with them. I went back to the pixel for the camera. I use it a lot for work and it's still the best IMO. This is my 2nd Pixel and the OS is clean and easy to use. I had the Pixel2 and actually liked the Pill gesture navigation, which I was recently using on the OnePlus 6t as well before the os10 upgrade killed it. It took me time to get used to the new gestures but they are now very natural feeling and better than the old 3 button. I still like the pill a little better but these are fine. I also like that it works wirelessly with Android auto. Cons I wish Google would catch up and maximize the screen size. It was too soon to get rid of the fingerprint reader. Many secure apps support it and have yet to support face recognition. Minor complaint, bit battery life could be a tad better. Overall I think it's the cleanest running Android and works best overall for my needs.

It doesn't have the greatest battery life, but it is definitely the smoothest most intuitive phone I've ever used. The google assistant and speech to text is amazing and the camera has been great. I would recommend this to anyone looking for the best android experience, so long as they're not a power user.

I got this phone to replace my 1st generation Pixel. It works great for me. The battery life easily lasts a whole day for me, the phone is fast and gets good reception. The camera takes very good pictures, and the face unlock works great for me. I do miss not having a headphone jack at times, but most phones don't have that anymore.

I heard a lot of really negative reviews for this so was a little worried. That worry was unfounded. My last phone was a Samsung S9 (also, the S7 and S8) so my comparison is to that phone. Battery life, this phone always gets me past a full day (past midnight). The Samsung usually died on my way home from work. Screen, for me, the screen is good but not great in full sun. App... this is where it is awesome. Everything just works. Text to Speech is great with Google Books. Camera takes awesome pictures, Movies/Netflix play really well. Chomecast cast connects really well. Games play well as well. Face unlock is good. I didn't think I would use it but I use it all of the time now. Phone swipe is cool. I am starting to use that more often while playing songs while driving. I can't tell you how nice it is to just wave your hand in front of your phone to move past a song you are not interested it or even to the next podcast. Really hoping that Google finds more uses for this tech. Overall, really good phone. Never going back to Samsung again.

My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S8. That battery in that phone I would have to charge twice a day, sometimes three times. Switching to the Google Pixel 4XL, my same type of usage I can get two days out of it! That's the main bonus from me. I always complained about my S8, just seemed to always have issues. I love that my Pixel is unlocked, it doesn't have all that unnecessary bloatware. So far this Pixel has met my expectations. It's very responsive, fluid, just overall a great phone in my opinion. It's easy to personalize to my liking. The preloaded sounds for ringtones and notifications are fun. The face unlock works very well. I love the Google assistant. Pixel doesn't beat when I had the HTC One M8 for Windows phone though, that was the best. But the Pixel is next runner up!

I purchased the original Nexus pixel as soon as it came out to use with project fi. I've had it ever since what is the battery life started to die I knew I needed to upgrade so took a chance on the 4XL. With the right settings this phone can last an entire day even with heavy usage. I keep the screen brightness down to around 70% and don't have apps running in the background when they're not in use. Although the gestures don't seem to work outside of the United States that's not a deal-breaker for me. It's a fast, bright and responsive phone with a great display. Although I have to admit I'm not as impressed with the camera upgrade as I would have hoped, but it's still a great camera. I do agree it seems a bit pricey for what you're getting but all in all I'm very satisfied.

I really wanted to like this phone. I have been looking to migrate away from the Apple ecosystem and I thought the Pixel 4 XL might be the ticket as it could offer me a closer level of integration between hardware and software compared to other Android OEMs. There are some very cool things about this phone, but they overshadowed by some perplexing drawbacks. First, I actually love the design - the matte glass back is silky smooth and feels great in your hands. The large top bezel in the front didn't bother me at all - it's not the cleanest look for a phone in 2020, but it's much less offensive than that ginormous notch on the Pixel 3 XL. Face ID worked well on the device, but I was bummed to find that very few apps on Android actually support Face ID - so you'll need to be prepared to revert to pins and passwords again for most apps. I had no complaints about the display other than the colors seemed a bit dull at lower levels of brightness. The 90 Hz display was great (when, in fact, it was running at 90 Hz). Audio was adequate (minus the fact that google should throw in a pair of cheap USB-C buds for what they are charging for this device). Motion sense had very limited utility and worked about 75% of the time for me - that being said, I think it's cool technology that could become very useful if developed further down the road. Where things really went off the rails for me is battery life and software bugs. The battery life on the Pixel 4 XL is not awful, but it's also not anywhere near where it should be at this price point - really disappointing (and honestly baffling) that google didn't outfit this device with a bigger battery. There were also a number of weird glitches that I would encounter - random app crashes, freezing home screen, google assistant becoming unresponsive. These things didn't happen all the time, but they happened enough to make me concerned about the phone's longevity. The Pixel 4 XL is a decent attempt from Google to make a phone that stands out from the crowd; unfortunately, it stands out for the wrong reasons just as much as it does for the right ones.

I've always wanted a pure "google" phone. I've mostly had Samsung Notes. My Samsung met with an unfortunate and untimely death due to sudden and rapid deceleration onto concrete, so getting a new phone was an emergency. Luckily the Pixel was coming out in 2 days. It was between the Pixel 4XL & the Note 10. Went with the Pixel. One serious knock is this baby is expensive. There's other phones out there that are cheaper (even previous versions of Pixels) so do consider that. I absolutely hate that the memory isn't expandable. That really, really sucks. And 64GB goes quick (yeah, I take a lot of pics and side load a lot of audiobooks). The fact you can't expand the memory is something that's always kept me away from Apple phones--that and I'm really not that impressed with them when I've played with them. Call quality is great. No problems. Sometimes the phone can be kinda sluggish. Don't know why, but it's just a hitch I've noticed. I hate that there's not a back button. You have to swipe. I don't like that particularly. I love the facial recognition. It's quick--really quick and cool. Google assistant has learned some tricks! Really speedy. That's a nice feature update. Now the camera--the camera is something else! That's pretty much why I bought it. I'm a serious amateur photographer and this phone is the one to beat. The night photography is fantastic! If you really want to up your night/star photos--mount this baby on a tripod and those star/moon photos are awesome! It automatically adjusts the time if you have it on a tripod so it stays open longer for those really cool shots. You can shoot in RAW--which for me as an amateur photographer just really loves. It makes editing in Lightroom a breeze. Even printing directly from the phone you get stellar prints. So pass on the phone for the crappy amount of memory, but stay for one heck of a camera! At this point I do kinda with I'd gone with the Note 10+ or Sl0 to be honest. But with the Pixel 4's going on sale for the holiday season, it might be more of a contender for you as it's a bit cheaper then when I bought mine.
