Cutting Corners in an Attempt to be Cutting-Edge
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love technology and, as such, I usually switch between phones pretty regularly. While an Apple fan at heart, I still like to explore the various offerings from the Android world. I used this phone for less than 3 days and it's already in the box ready to return for one simple reason: Absolutely horrendous battery life. If batter life is important to you, I would strongly encourage you to ready the many reviews on this phone that highlight its subpar battery life. Google tried to do a lot of really cool things with this device (and kudos to them for trying), but all that cool stuff is meaningless when the battery life is so poor. It really is a shame, because there's a lot of good things going on with this phone. I actually like the overall design and feel of the phone (the top bezel is not nearly as offensive as it's been made out to be by some). The software experience is top-notch and Google Assistant is truly out of this world - way ahead of rivals. I only used the gestures for a short period of time and I was able to get them to work about 75% of the time - I could honestly see these being very useful with some tweaking, but Google has a pretty poor track record with following through with things like this. All in all, this really could be a fantastic phone - if long battery life is not critical for you, then I would say go for it. But if you don't like the idea of always needing to be near an outlet, I would pass.

Cleaner interface than most Androids
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is latest in the line of Google Pixel phones. Pixel line gets the latest version of Android before most other Android models. Not unusual to get latest in August. I like enrolling in Android Beta program every year as I get to see that latest and greatest early. This year Android 10 features Facial Recognition and Soli, a form of gesture control that doesn't require actually touching the phone. Pixels are known for great cameras. Recent years low night capableness were introduced. Much as been blogged about the Pixel 4. I like the standard sized 5.7” model as it’s lighter and more compact making it easier to carry.

Not for me!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very tech savvy. I was excited about the pixel 4. I use both android and iOS devices. I was very unhappy with the experience of this phone. First thing for me the camera. Pictures weren’t amazing, videos were ok, playback of the videos had a dense sound. No 3 cameras like the iPhone 11 pro. The phone is slim and not that heavy, slippery to hold in the hand will need a case. Screen resolution needs to be sharper to compete with these other phones out here. The google search bar at the bottom you can’t move or remove takes away from the phone. The bezels around the phone is too much. With all the edge screened phones out this one should have had way smaller bezels. No headphone jack, not huge deal almost all phone are doing that. To bring up the google assistant you have to squeeze the sides of the phone, it would be a better feature if you could use it for the camera. Battery life was ok. Voice quality was clear. Flashlight is bright, speaker quality needs to be more crisp. The android experience is nice not having all the stock applications from brands like Samsung, LG or Motorola. This could have been a much better phone.

Research Smartphones Paid off with Pixel
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always had a smartphone and upgraded with S8 etc but the price was getting too ridiculous for a phone, more than a tablet or laptop, I read reviews, customer, CNET, and a few other tech articles, turned to Youtube for video reviews and ease of use. In the end, the Pixel XL4 came up the best, I was reluctant to change always having an S phone Black Friday, the price was a no brainer to go with the PixelXL4, it was easy to set up and transfer, great clarity when speaking and hearing a call, set up was easy with customizing made simple, I turned off all sound alerts with ease. Pairing Blue Tooth earbuds, and my Bose was perfect. Google updates are quick. The Google camera is outstanding, it is the best! I am very impressed. All in all, PixelXL4 was worth the wait for the price to drop but it is more than I anticipated

Love the pixel 4xl
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would highly recommend the pixel 4xl. I have been a long time user of the Samsung Galaxy, after a brief relationship with an iPhone. I was hesitant to go with the new pixel after reading reviews about battery life. I would say I am a moderate phone user. I I have not had any issues with the battery life. That said, I do keep keep it on dark mode. I found I actually prefer this. This is a great android phone. I am so happy that I took a chance. No regrets! The camera is amazing.

Poor Battery Life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a good try but the poor battery life has me attached to a cord far too often. Even with many of the advanced features turned off, this phone doesn't want to last through the entire day. My 2+ year old Pixel 2XL lasted just as long, if not longer. Removing the LED notification and replacing it with an always on screen drains the battery way too fast. The camera hardware and software are great as everyone else states. I miss the fingerprint unlock on the Pixel 2XL since face unlock doesn't work with a mask on, I can't use it while shopping or anytime I am out in public (for now). Chrome experiences issues that I have never seen before on this phone as well. Apps tend to freeze and crash more often than I have seen on a Pixel phone. It surprises me that the flagship phone doesnt work well with Google's own browser software...

Posted .Hi FaTonY,
We really appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing poor battery performance and freezing issues.
We try to upgrade our battery experiences year-over-year, with software features like Adaptive Battery and Battery Saver to continue extending Pixel’s battery life.
We recommend taking a look at your battery stats and see if any apps are using an unusual amount on power you can do this by searching 'Battery Usage' in the search bar.
We also recommend updating the latest Android version to help with the freezing/crashing issue.
If you continue to have battery or freezing issues, we recommend contacting our 1:1 support (From your phone click on Settings > Tips & support > Contact us).

Doesn't compare to premium phones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been purchasing Google phones since the Google G1. Pre-ordered this phone before the Google event was even over and am now disappointed. The people who made this phone are out of touch from reality if they think it's acceptable for a $900 phone to have this sort of battery life.

Terrible Google Support for Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I gladly made the transition from new iPhones every year and tried the Pixel 4 XL when it first released. At first there were battery issues not lasting through the day. After an update and some software tweaks that subsided, and I had been more than happy with my phone until close to a year rolled around. Then I started to have issues, my phone screen would turn black randomly and have bugs with the battery, and finally two weeks after the 1 year warranty expires, the phone screen turns off even though it was charged, and I cannot turn the phone back on, even having left it overnight on the charger. I also tried multiple resets holding different combinations of buttons. The next day I took it to a Google supported center Ubreakifix. They said they've had a bunch of pixel 4s come in within the last week with battery issues. Not looking good for me. I then call Google customer support, and the rep said they'd extend the warranty for me, great! I go back to Ubreakifix (the closest one is 30 minutes away). And they said that the warranty period in the system isn't showing the updated extension. I then call Google customer support again, and they open a case for me that was escalated to tier 2/3 support. This was over a week ago, and I've yet to get an update from either Google nor Ubreakifix. I can't go that long without a phone so I bought a moto g power to hold me over in the meantime. I can't believe the level of support has been so poor. This is what makes people not want to continue buying google phones. I was so close to waiting until the pixel 4a 5g came out. I was waiting over a month, even subscribed to their waitlist and wanted to pick it up on release day. But how Google handled this whole ordeal, I don't know if I'll ever buy a Google phone again. Such a poor experience. Utterly frustrating. Also, Ubreakifix said that Google only shipped each store 5 batteries for these pixel issues, and they already had more pixel 4s ahead of me that needed those batteries, so sounds like I'll be waiting for a while to get my old phone back!

Great phone, mediocre service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using Google phone since the first Nexus 1 and bought my Pixel 4XL directly from the Google store with extended warranty. I love the phone, the frequent updates, fast unlock, great camera and overall look and feel. However recently it started crashing when I put the phone in the back pocket and sometime the battery indicator is stuck at 50%. It seems that either the battery or battery connector/support circuits developed a fault. After researching it online, I'm clearly not the only one with this problem. All this isn't that big a deal - stuff sometimes breaks during warranty - if the Google service wouldn't be such a disaster. The reps are ok but they are forced to follow a rigid script even if it doesn't make any sense. First they asked me to start the phone in Safe Mode. Not surprisingly the issues didn't go away. So despite the fact that physical pressure causes the problem (= hardware problem) and others have tried and failed, they now want me to do a factory reset. Again, this makes absolutely no sense (I'm an engineer with numerous software patents) and again others tried and failed. Unfortunately due to Covid 19, I'm on a remote location with only a metered and slow HotSpot and a factory reset will burn through 5GB or more which I don't have. And it would disable the phone for the better part of a day. To make things worse, they already indicated that the only remedy if/when they finally decide to honor their warranty is to send in the phone in for repairs. Giving shipping times where they are right now that means two weeks or more without a phone. So until Google steps up and backs a great phone with a service worth a premium device, I can't recommend the Pixel 4.

Expect Annoyances
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Normally not motivated enough to write reviews but this wonderfully crappy phone motivated such. Don't let a salesman convince you to get it. Auto-correct will change words you typed in correctly to words that make no sense all the time. Useless side screen features will pop up intermittently because of the wrap around screen sensitivity. Of every phone I've ever had this is the MOST sensitive to water, washed my hands once and it broke the USB port. One thing it does have going for it is the battery, so it can annoy you for long periods of time. Randomly puts itself into silent mode, so expect to miss important calls or alarms. Tied to that problem - or maybe the cause of it - the lockscreen notoriously turns itself on or off when it's in your pocket or facedown on a table. Most of these "features" trying to predict what you want end up being huge annoyances. Stick to iPhone

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Phone has been nothing but problems since I got it. Battery life is horrible and the battery itself is a joke. drops anywhere below 50% and the phone turn off with the dead battery sign. put on charger and reads 50%. constantly resets itself. make it worse is google repair can't even fix it, lied about its warranty. made me pay upfront with a promise to reimbursed when returned. twice was sent to them for repair. twice is has developed the same issues. port keeps dying out. worse purchase ever

Don't buy this phone!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is more about Google customer service than it is about the phone. The phone hardware itself is adequate, teh google software is fantastic, when it works on the phone. I received a defective phone and called google support to get it replaced, which they did, with a refurb, which was worse than the original phone I sent in. They had me send the refurb in for a long list of repairs, and they sent it back with only one issue repaired. So, if you buy a defective new phone, you get it replaced with a defective used phone. There goes 400.00 bucks right there. So, don't buy, stay away.. I love the stock android experience, but I won't give them my money on another pixel phone. Trust the professional reviewers, avoid, avoid, avoid.

Garbage Phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tldr: Phone is unreliable and customer service SLAs are over 30days This phone keeps getting the 50% battery problem where your phone no matter how much you charge or use the phone it stays at 50%. After awhile the phone just dies. This happened a second time and I opened a claim with Google on April 30 where they said they would send me a brand new phone. I am still paying on the phone and as of May 28, customer service has still been working on the email to obtain a new phone. Sad thing, I have always been a Google fanboy. Not after this terrible experience.

Face unlock worse than fingerprint
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fingerprint for security worked great on pixel 2 and 3, but pixel 4 lost it. Face unlock is not as good: it triggers inappropriately when not desired, and is more difficult to use when needed.
