    Good size and Performance

Perfect sized phone. It's even a little smaller than the Pixel 3a with a broken screen that I was replacing. It's a little faster too.

Sad I have to look forward to the pixel 5

Let me start by saying I am writing this review through wifi on my Pixel 3aXL because I don't want to use the new pixel. That should speak for itself! After waiting months in anticipation for this phone, I'm sad that it wasn't worth the wait. As a pixel XL user for years, this thing is tiny and feels inadequate. Just feels like an old phone that I would've used 10 years ago. And I can't figure out how to toggle through the screens because it's a different setup than the last 2 pixels. I hope that the 5 comes out with a grown-up version at a reasonable price. I feel so cheated on this thing. If I didn't need a new phone for work I'd return this. I'd be happy to return and use the pixel 3 I bought, but after checking the IMEI before buying used (it checked out,) Verizon won't let me use it because it's now blacklisted for non payment. I guess it doesn't pay to check the IMEI before and VZ could care less. I even offered to pay it off for the person (a complete stranger) if a reasonable amount and they acted like I was asking for personal information. They want their money but they don't want their money. Makes no sense I'll wait impatiently for the 5 in the meantime, and this phone will be gone immediately when that comes out. Would not recommend. Don't even want to give it a chance

Buggy and unreliable like all the others

This is my 4th phone this year. I bought it a few months ago and overall I've been happy with it. There's one major problem that makes it unusable for me though. It reboots randomly when it loses cell data. Also if it's plugged in when this occurs it will reboot continuously until you unplug it. Which means you can't charge your phone until you get to cell service. Which is a problem when using GPS navigation in the mountains. I could work around this problem by turning the phone off and charging it while it's off, but Google in their infinite wisdom decided that whenever the phone is plugged in it will turn on, and disable all power saving settings. Which makes this phone a terrible back packing camera, because it takes 5000-6000mAh to charge 3,000mAh in MAXIMUM POWER MODE! because it's chewing through so much of the juice during the 2-3 hour charge time. Seriously missing my Nokia 8210.

    All the hype was wrong

I should start by saying that up until I got the 4a I was a repeat offender of the iPhone. I was ready to cut the cord and get an Android and I thought I was going to love my Pixel for the sheer fact that it wasn't an iPhone. I've had this since the week it came out (about 2 months now) and I regret this purchase immensely. The Pixel is really quirky, it stutters and lags with frustrating frequency when hitting buttons, often taking 2-3 seconds to "think" before executing the task you told it to (even if it's just to close a window). Beyond that, I constantly find myself clicking on things I didn’t intend to. It seems as if when making a swipe, like scrolling through a website, it lags for a split-second mid-swipe and reads it as if you’re clicking on whatever is under your thumb at the moment of the lag. This is extremely frustrating when you find yourself constantly clicking on ads accidentally, or unintentionally “liking” your ex-girlfriends Instagram post as you scroll through your feed (believe me, your excuse won’t be considered valid in the eyes of your current partner). It's interface is unintuitive, which I'll admit is partially a learning curve with the switch from Apple to Android. I hate to compare it to my iPhone 7 but that's all I know; simple things like vibration patterns, red notification dots on app icons, etc... that are standard on an iPhone are not standard options on Android. I understand that people want the opportunity to fully "customize" their phone, but I don't want to have to learn how to program macros to make my phone's vibrate setting less annoying. The camera that everyone raves about... it's just okay. Certainly better than the iPhone 7, but there's something artificial about it. Photo's make everything look almost like plastic and definitely not natural. Plus, the photo library is a maze of confusing folders. It requires navigating through 5-6 folders and sub-folders to attach a photo to a text from an SMS app. When you save a photo that is sent to you, you'd think it would go into your photo library but no, it goes into it's own "messages" subfolder that you'll have to dig for later. I'm sure there's a macro for that, but c'mon... Call volume is bipolar at best; it is either whisper-quiet even at full volume on speakerphone, or deafeningly loud. Even when my volume is at 0 (not an exaggeration, literally 0) the volume of the call is sometimes eardrum-bursting. It's inconsistent, you never know what you're going to get, and I'm almost scared to put the phone to my ear in fear of rupturing an ear-drum. The kicker for me, and the reason I finally decided to write this review, was earlier today when I started hearing voices come from my phone while it was not being used. Sitting at my desk doing work, with all apps closed, screen black, and faint voices start emitting from the phone like I was in a group-call. I don’t think I’m in need of a séance, but I also can’t explain that and it doesn’t make me feel comfortable about this phone in any way. I don’t want to sound entirely negative; the plastic casing that most people complain about doesn’t bug me. It makes the phone lightweight and, lets be honest, do you know ANYONE who doesn’t use a phone case? Even though the screen is mid-grade, it’s more than adequate and I’m glad that it has a headphone jack, even if it’s just for nostalgia and collecting pocket lint. At this point, I'm considering my $400 a loss. I know I’m in the minority here; all the “professional” phone reviews rave about this phone. But they only used it for a few hours, maybe a couple of days. This has been my personal experience, do what you want with it. As for me, I'm deactivating this phone and going back to my iPhone 7. This was a horrible experience and a regretful purchase.

    No USB-C-to-USB cable

Pixel 4a is affordable phone. But it does not include USBC-to-USB cable. Try to use normal USB-2/USB-3 cables with the included adapter, but not working. Must buy a car charger for USB-C. Google should include the specific cable, but only include USC-C-to-USC-C.

    Avoid

I created an account because I had to write a review. This is one of the worst all around products I have ever owned. I have defended the Pixel from Apple users since its inception and have remained loyal ever since but I think I am officially done. Not only has google given up on having top tier products their support has regressed dramatically. Since google decided to go the cheaper route (and with the surplus of positive reviews) I decided to give the 4a a chance but I have now been without a phone for over a month while google and best buy send me back and forth over who has to foot the bill for a replacement ($350 dollar) phone. While the phone worked (for a whole month and half) there were loads of problems with connectivity and apps like instragram were largely unusable because of video playback problems. That doesn't even include when the apps were randomly closing themselves out. Youtube tv (another google product) was unusable on a google phone!!! I have hp and dell laptops, googlechrome+, youtube tv and xbox one all running (without issue) from the same wifi yet somehow the connectivity was too poor from streaming on the 4a. Please save yourself from this garbage and the never ending red tape that is sure to follow.

    Worst phone ever

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Worst phone I have ever purchased. Intially fine, got wet once but not much I dried it out and it worked fine. Great I thought. 2 months later the camera suddenly stopped working- googles response 'well its been wet so it'll be £280 to repair it', There was no way i was paying that so thought I'd just put up with it. 2 months later did an update on the phone and hey presto the camera works again so obviously a software issue all along. Roll on another month and the top of the touch screen stops working- googles response the same as before. I really don't see how it having got wet several months previously has suddenly caused this issue. My daughter has the same phone and has the same issue but again because it was wet once several months previously Google will do nothing. I've gone back to my ancient samsung which even though its been wet several times and has a cracked screen still works! My daughter is off out to buy a samsung. I will not buy a Google phone again. Completely unreliable.

I bought mine from the Google store. Immediately after automatically updating to Android 11 the bluetooth and Android Auto wouldn't stay connected. How awesome is that to have you're music continually cut off in the car or ear buds?! It's not. I've done all the suggestions and google hasn't responded to any of my feedback. This phone is crap.

This phone is super unreliable. I have had my Pixel 4a for less than a year and am now sending it in for the second time for repair. Google expects you to mail in your phone for repair and then wait for them to repair and mail back or bring it to a store that may take a week or more in my case. It's also just not a good phone overall. It glitches and loads very slow vs. other devices. I wouldn't even say you get what you pay for here. I was willing to make some performance sacrifices for a more affordable phone but this is truly unreasonable.

Would have been good, if vibrate worked.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Google forgot to finish programming the vibrate function. The phone can be set to always vibrate, or never vibrate, but it's impossible to configure it to switch between only ring and only vibrate. Many people need their phone quiet at places like work or the movies, hence only vibrate, and at other times don't want it to vibrate across a desk or dresser, hence only ring. Google forgot to include this basic functionality, and they refuse to admit it or fix it. It's a shame, an otherwise good phone is now useless due to programmer error.

Super disappointed in Best Buy. My fiancé just bought this phone “brand new” and as soon as he took it out of the box it had smudge marks and small hairs on the back of the phone. There was an outline of a sticker that should have been on the phone that was no longer there. He did not have Best Buy set the phone up for him. Everything was still in the box so it was clearly used before he received it. We were told if he returned it, they would have charged a $45 restocking fee.

Pixel interferes with Zoom & teleconferencing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do not buy this or any other Pixel phone under any circumstances. They are hardwired to link to your PC's WiFi network and interfere with any application that employs the microphone -- especially Zoom and other teleconferencing apps. (The mic on the Pixel interferes with the mic on your PC, creating reverb/echo.) Moreover, you can't make a phone call using your Pixel anywhere within the 30-foot WiFi radius for the same reason.

Don't by this product. After less than three months the main camera sopped working. Google support is not helpful at all. It was inspected in one of their authorized repair shop and it was determined to be a hardware issue. Now Google want me to mail the phone to them and wait additional 5-10 days for them to send me a new one. This is just ridiculous.

My phone bricked and wedding is today. I preordered 8/19/20 so that I would have a working maps device and phone to use for our honeymoon. Best buy continued to delay the order then canceled it today. Attempts to consult with chat agent were not helpful. Best hug experience was extremely frustrating and I would encourage you to order from a different source
