I needed to upgrade my old Samsung S7 and wanted to make sure I was ready for 5G when it becomes available with my current carrier. The price was one of the key points (compared to OnePlus around 200$ more at that moment). A value added for Pixel owners is fast availability for Android updates. You get it every month directly from Google (not a third party like Samsung or other brands) so any security vulnerability is solved sooner than third party devices. That gives me peace of mind.

A glitched phone with ABYSMAL support from Google

If you are lucky enough to get a phone with no issues, then you may be really happy with the Pixel 4a 5G. The battery life alone was phenomenal. If you're a light user like me, this really should have been a 5 star phone. I was not so lucky. I had the misfortune of getting a phone that had audio problems (static noise on every phone call) right out of the box. A few months later, it developed more severe problems where the phone would restart randomly during calls. Now, normally, this would not be enough to warrant a one star review. But Google's technical support process was, well, comically bad. How bad? Negative 10 stars bad. Without getting too far into the details, after four months of back-and-forth with Google Support emails and chats, we did not reach a satisfactory conclusion and I basically gave up. Their support process was an absolute nightmare and feels like it was DESIGNED to waste your time. They escalated through 4 or 5 levels of support managers, always apologizing, but never really addressing the questions or issues raised. They usually just copy-pasted the same replies and said "this is our policy". RMAs are usually no big deal. But Google sent me on a fool's errand involving factory resets, Safe Mode experiments, visiting a local repair shop (that didn't stock the right the parts), going back to Best Buy, and then, and then, and then... Felt like I had a full time job trying to get this darn phone fixed or replaced. Just know going in that if anything goes wrong with your phone outside of the Best Buy return window, Google can make it VERY HARD to solve the problem and is more focused on their own policies than on customer satisfaction. The only thing that got their attention was to post on Twitter, and then they eventually escalated the case and provided some RMA options for a refurbished replacement. It's kind of a shame. I wanted to like this phone, but the terrible customer service experience really put me off of Google hardware, probably for awhile.

I decided to go from iphone to Android and was looking within a certain price point that also had technology that could rival and this phone checked all the boxes and more. Beautiful screen, fantastic pictures, and fast AF. I found it easy to become part of google family by purchasing an accompany Chromebook and setting my phone up with GoogleFi which is amazing. This phone is the rival that know one knew or about too. I'm so happy with it. I will never go back to iphone.

So far the best deal on a phone in 2020 for me. Has great speed, the new power savings features are miles ahead of the previous pixel model. The screen is quite good and has good clarity and functionality. The fingerprint sign on has been maintained which I think is far better than facial recognition on other devices. my only beef with this phone is that it does not charge in my Google charging stand. It needs to be plugged into a USB c able to charge.

Arrived on time and safely. Set up was pretty straight forward, but due to widespread incompetence of AT&T wireless customer support staff, SIM Card transfer to new Pixel to bring old mobile # forward to new device is still not done after multiple sessions. Rest of device performance has been great. Unfortunately not able to evaluate phone or text messaging performance yet until my new carrier is selected to replace AT&T.
