Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the Pixel 6a 128GB (Unlocked)'s camera quality, battery life, ease of use, and its price point. Many appreciate the phone's size and performance, while some find the lack of wireless charging and the tendency for the device to get warm to be drawbacks. The absence of a headphone jack and the standard refresh rate were also noted as missing features by some users. Overall, positive feedback on core functionalities outweighs concerns about missing features for most customers.

If you've used a pixel before you know what you're getting into. The 6a line is the latest budget model of the pixel family, and overall it's excellent. In the box you get the pixel 6a, a usb-c to c cable, and your otg adapter. Where's the power brick you ask? Well sadly the pixel isn't meant to be as consumer friendly as it once was. Don't have a type-c charger? Oh well, you're going to have to spend money for one since there's no wireless charging on this phone. This is some anti-consumer stuff if I've ever seen it, and I hate it. knock it off google. also 18w "fast" charge is a joke. That may have passed for fast charging 5 years ago, but it's woefully out of date. As for the phone itself tho ... The build quality is very nice, very premium feeling for this price point. Pixel maintains it's excellent camera from the more expensive models and that's still probably the best thing here. It has some new tricks up it's sleeve on the software side of things too, being able to quickly remove people who photo bomb using the magic eraser. It works best outdoors when the subjects have a high contrast to the background. Very impressive tech. Call quality is pretty much on par for any phone, nothing special here. The speakers though, it's not so great. They get loud enough, though not the loudest I've heard, but they're just kind of bad. They get the job done for watching a video or gaming or whatever, but nobody is winning awards for the speakers here. It's certainly good enough for having a conversation on speaker phone, but yeah. These could, and should, be better. On a sour note, coming from a pixel 4a, they've ditched the headphone jack. I don't like that. The display is a mixed bag. It gets plenty bright thanks to the oled HDR panel, but the resolution is laughable by today's standards. 1080 x 2400 @ 60hz just doesn't look very good, even at 6 inches. This is especially frustrating because you can take 4k 60 video with the rear camera, but you can't see what it actually looks like on the phone. You have to offload to a pc or tablet, or something capable of actually displaying that resolution. I'm not saying this, or any phone, should have a 4k native display, but it can certainly be better than this. I don't like it. While we're on the subject of display, let's talk about that in-screen finger print reader. It's absolute garbage. It's slow and less accurate than a coin flip when it comes to recognizing my fingerprint. It's so frustratingly bad that I have to wonder why google would include this feature. I get that it's a bragging point that they included this tech on this phone, but if the tech doesn't work than it's not useful. That's just extra cost for a feature I'll never use because it's functionally broken. You think it's bad out of the box? Well just wait until you slap a screen protector on this bad boy! Even setting fingerprints after the screen protector is on doesn't help matters. It's just a bad implementation of a bad technology, and I sincerely hope we never see this again. As far as performance goes, it's pretty good. The phone is fast and responsive in all the apps I've used, browsing in chrome etc. Haven't gamed on this because I don't game on phones. My guess is that it would be fine. It's a very good general purpose phone, so in that sense google has nailed it with this one. The software experience of stock Android 12 is great. I always like using google's mobile OS without layers of bloat on top of them, which is what you get with other manufacturers. The result is a streamlined and responsive OS that has some incrementally better features over previous versions. There's nothing here new that's blown me away, but all the great stuff is back. Call screening with real time transcription is still here, probably my single favorite feature of the pixel line. There's also some really cool functionality with real-time translation, but realistically I've never had to use that. Still very cool though. By default google sets the phone up to use swipe gestures, this I hate. This is cribbed 100% from that fruit-related phone company, and frankly I wish google would stop trying to force this interface down my throat. It's unintuitive and finnicky and it's the first setting I always change. Having a back button is superior to any amount of swiping. Knock it off google. Overall the Pixel 6a is defined by compromises. Google has done what it thinks is best to provide the best price to performance, but I don't think they've made the right decisions in every case. Camera great. OS great. Fit and finish. Great. But then there's everything else. Bad speakers, a terrible finger print reader, no charging brick, and the removal of the headphone jack - it's too much for me. There are other better options out there in this price range. I don't expect a flagship phone at budget prices, but as it is this phone feels OVERpriced for what you get. If all you're looking for is a cheap phone and you're not fussed about features or performance, then yeah. Get this. This is the phone for you. Everyone else though should steer clear. This one is a disappointment.
