Overall, the phone has been great. The display is crisp and smooth. The functionality is on par (if not better) with other flagships if this calibre. The only issue is battery life. It will last about 18 hours of moderate+ use before needing to charge.

Out of the box you will spend a little time getting it up to date and setup but that's expected. You will need to login into your google account, install some OS security updates, update all apps, install your apps, and then you are ready to go. If you connect and transfer from another phone using the included usb-c cable it takes care of some of this for you. Design Google kept its signature design again this year which makes sense since it works so well. This years model just seems a little bit more polished from previous years. About same size as last years Pixel 7 Pro but with a flat and more rounded corner display. For comparison when you hold it in hand it feels exactly like holding a Pixel 6. I have a hard time using a smaller phone so I embrace the pros bigger size. The back on the 8 pro is now a matte finish instead of glossy which in my opinion looks so much better and feels nicer to the touch. When you lay it flat on a table it doesn't rock or move due to the full camera bar. Overall it feels incredibly premium in the hand but since its still sandwiched in glass I would put it in some type of case. Display The first thing I noticed when turning on the phone was how vibrant the display looked. Its a 6.7 inch OLED and gets super bright. So bright I keep mine at 65% indoors which is plenty. It uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on front and back which is supposed to be stronger. I'm not going to test that. And my favorite change from previous years pro model is that the screen is no longer curved! It a true flat display which is something that kept me from getting the pro model in previous years so kudos to Google for that change. The screen still has a in-display finger print scanner. Its not the fastest out there by any means but it works fine. One thing to mention is that by default it comes with high resolution enabled. If you want full resolution you need to go into display settings and change it which will give you its native 1344 x 2992 resolution. Sound Its speakers produce a sound quality that is truly exceptional for a phone. Calls are crisp and clear. Whether you're on a call or enjoying multimedia content, the Pixel 8 Pro's audio performance stands out over other phones. Camera I know a lot of people buy the Pixel strictly for the camera and there is a valid reason for that. The photos this thing takes look amazing. The Pixel 8 Pro sticks with a 50MP primary camera on the back and a 10.5MP on the front. The main camera includes a true 5x optical zoom. If you need that extra optical zoom then you have no choice than to get the pro model. I've been taking photos in different modes and in different environments and everything has come out looking fantastic. I honestly think that the Pixel takes the best photos of any smart phone out there. And I still think Night Sight mode on the Pixel is still the best low light photography mode out there. Its impressive camera capabilities aren't limited to just photos; the device took high quality videos as well. The camera also supports face unlock so if you prefer that over fingerprint reader you have that option. One thing the pro model has over the regular is the "pro mode" in the camera app. This is great for people who are really into photography and want to have more control over the cameras. This year they added a new temperature senor to the back of the phone. It comes with its own app and can be used on a bunch of different surfaces. I find that it works pretty well but one big thing missing from it is skin temp. I would love to see a future addition of skin temp. If my phone can replace my camera, calculator, level, etc then why not the thermometer as well? Fingers crossed that they add this functionality via software update down the road. Battery life As for battery life I have noticed no difference in real world usage from last years model. This years got a slight bump to a 5050 mAh battery. Right now I'm charging it every other day unless it gets really heavy use. So you should have no issues getting an entire day out of it. It does have true 30w wired charging now so the existing google 30w power brick that Google has been selling "separately" for the last two years will work great with this phone. Wireless charging is 23w. Haptics I wanted to make a small mention of the haptic feedback in this phone. I'm not sure if they made some sort of hardware update this year or just moved the haptic motor in the phone but I feel like the haptics in this phone are some of the best. Performance This years model gets the new Tensor G3 paired with 12gb of ram. Performance has been great. The phone is buttery smooth. It handles multitasking, demanding apps, and graphically intensive games with ease. Very impressive. Performs as I would expect of a phone in this price range. One thing I wanted to add was that it also includes support for wifi 7. Thats a big deal if you plan on keeping this thing for years to come and need that future proofing. Something the iphone 15 didn't include for some reason. Software This phone comes with 7 years of OS updates!!! Yes, you read that right. That means it will get its last update in 2030 which is crazy to think of. It comes stock with Android 14 and has a pretty clean software experience. If you are used to android 13 then you will be right at home here. Basically same same experience but with a customizable lock screen. Like all Pixels there is really no bloat and most of the pre-installed apps can be uninstalled if you don't use them. Most of the pre-installed apps are useful though. This year Google has added a lot of new software features and tricks. Some use AI like AI wallpaper and my personal favorite the AI built into the keyboard that helps fix your text before you send it. I also read they will be adding Google Assistant with Bard at some point which would be pretty cool. But what most people will really like is all the post camera software features. I'm not going to get into all of them but there is a lot of new and old tricks you can do post take to help fix issues and further enhance moments in both photos and videos. This is all done in the camera app and from my experience so far they work pretty well. Overall I love this phone! For anyone seeking top-tier performance and innovation, the Pixel 8 Pro unquestionably stands out as an excellent choice, offering a truly awesome smartphone experience. I believe this is Googles best phone to date and possibly the best Android phone out there.
