The Camera is Mind-Blowing: The photos this phone takes are simply breathtaking. The new sensor captures an incredible amount of light, so my nighttime and indoor shots are crisp, vibrant, and virtually noise-free—no flash needed! The AI-enhanced zoom is another standout feature; I can capture crystal-clear shots from distances I never thought possible. I took it to a concert last week and my pictures looked like I was in the front row, not the back. Performance & Battery Life: This phone is lightning-fast. The new processor handles everything I throw at it without a hint of lag, from high-end gaming to editing 4K video. But what truly impresses me is that all this power doesn't come at the cost of battery life. I'm a heavy user, and I'm consistently ending my day with 30-40% battery left. Either Best Buy or FedEx stole this item when I was trying to return it and neither will help me resolve the issue. I am out a phone and the money.

The person on the phone told me that I would get $100 refund when I connected the new Pixel 9 to T-Mobile, and that I did not need to make an appointment to transfer files from my old cell phone to the new Pixel 9. But, none was honored and I was kept on pushing from one person to other person, wasting an hour. At the end, the manager said that she was sorry that I was given the wrong information by the person of the call center, and that I could return the phone and got refund. So, I did and wasted all the time ordering over the phone, going to the store and waiting and dealing with four perosns.

It was VERY difficult to order online. My first order I thought the trade in screen was broken, it was not. I tried to change the order, not allowed. Called customer svc several times. I will NOT be ordering anything online with Best buy again

I am coming from a Pixel 8 Pro to this Pixel 9 and I have to pretty much say, I am not missing much! Yes you don't get video boost and the thermometer and the zoom is not the pro 30x zoom, but I really do not use those at all or all too often. I have tried video boost and the zoom, but in reality, the pictures that need those additions, I usually whip out my dslr camera to get those shots. For the everyday, this Pixel 9 is perfect in day to day uses. Even the fingerprint reader is better! I heard the Pros still have issues, but the 9 is good to go, even with a screen protector! Just remember to turn on the screen protector in your display settings. Setting up is a bit different when coming from a Pixel device. Now the copy feature is more fluid than non Pixel phones. When I transferred my wifes info into the Pixel 8 Pro, it did not have that copy step that now are on Pixel devices. I mean it's not a deal breaker, but it is just slighty different, in a good way. I always had issues using my Pixel 8 Pro on a wireless charger. It would hang and be non reponsive to touch while on the wireless charger and when you take it off, it takes a good 3-5 seconds to become responsive again. This was apparently a known issue which the only fix was to exchange it for a new one. But back to the Pixel 9. This one is actually smaller and maybe a few MM smaller than my daughter's Pixel 7! I don't mind it at all because now this fits in my pockets like a normal person! The display is now bright enough to be viewable outside. The 8 Pro struggled with that all the time. With the smaller everything, that means the battery is smaller as well. I think the 8 Pro is around 5k mAh while the Pixel 9 is 4,700 mAh. Not too much difference, especially with the new Tensor 4 chip and increased memory. The phone does not hesitate at all and is zippy! Everything works and I also run the Android 15 betas without issue. This is my daily driver too! I heavily use this and everything you liked on the Pixel of the recent past, comes a bit improved this year. Allbeit more AI features and the new Add Me photochop feature, which is novel but in all reality a gimmick really. Just like the thermometer last iteration. Would I recommend this phone even though it's not the Pro model? Yes! I initally came back to Pixel 7 and was super impressed on the phone was as a whole. I was ok with the Pixel 6a, but the 7 was the game changer for me in reference to daily driver phones and the main stream usage of phones in general. The Pixel 9 is the same size of the Pixel 9 Pro you just get more AI stuff and the additional zoom camera, which I can live without. I think the Pixel 9 is a great phone and if my usage can handle it, it can handle most other people's days as well. The battery is great and does not get as hot as the old Pixels in the past.

Bestbuy had promotion for preorder. All went well online until I went to the store to pickup. The associate told me that the trade in value is $125 while the promotion stated that my trade in will cover the new Pixel9 with $100 Bestbuy e-gift card. Disappointed, returned the phone right way. Called customer care, they said they were aware about what happed to me and other customers. And they would solve the problem and get back to me in 24-48 hours. But nothing happened after 1 week. Please don’t post any promotions that can’t not be honored by the poster.

I upgraded my earlier Pixel phone to the new Pixel 9 in order to be able to take advantage of the new on-device AI trends. The Gemini assistant features are alluring even though they may not yet be ready for primetime. The product specifications are comprehensive, as you would expect for a "flagship" designated device but be aware that some compromises have been made. I expect that the reduced memory, camera specifications and screen size are more about making room for Google to define advanced (more expensive) options. The build quality of the new Pixel 9 is immediately apparent and impressive. The use of Gorilla glass on both the front and back of the unit gives it a super sleek appearance. An unintended side effect for me was how slippery that makes the phone! I found myself dropping it often until I bought a case for it. The new, squared off camera "island" that houses the lenses and flash projects noticeably from the body. That actually provides some stability if you lay the phone down on a flat surface and disappears if you put the phone in a case. I am especially pleased with the screen. Even though I wish it was a bit larger, the resolution and brightness are stellar! Overall processing performance is very good. The interface is snappy. Scrolling and apps like the photo editing suite are fast and effective. As for the AI features - this is a technology that is evolving rapidly. Google has promised us seven years worth of updates for this product and we will undoubtedly see some amazing software emerge that takes advantage of this trend. If you are interested in riding this new tech curve this platform will provide you with just what you need! The combination of build quality, feature specs, and support makes the Pixel 9 a contender for your cellphone needs!

The glass very fragile, broke on the next day of purchase

It is as if one gazeth upon a stained glass window in a grand cathedral, each pixel a brushstroke of the Almighty. Performance: Within its slender frame lies the heart of a lion, a processor most puissant, capable of feats both swift and mighty. Tasks that wouldst weary lesser devices are but trifles to the Pixel 9, which doth perform them with nary a pause. Camera: The camera, a true marvel, doth capture moments with the precision of a master painter. This review is more about bestbuy and FedEx than pixel. I just don't know where to leave this feedback. I ordered this phone and FedEx couldn't deliver for 3 days that I was home. I was just receiving emails that they tried and couldn't. Same weekend I got delivered apple product from Amazon that also required signature, so it's not about access to my building.

More improvements, more backsliding, more gimmicks… the Pixel trend doesn’t change with Google’s Pixel 9. I’m sticking with the Pixel brand and would recommend this phone to others. [ Good as usual ] Seven years of product support and software updates. The first Android phone to receive updates. Quick and easy access to quality product support from Google, directly on the phone (based on my experience). These alone have been reason enough for me to remain a loyal Pixel user since the very first generation. Great cameras for close wide shot photography (upgrading to the Pro model for the telephoto lens is very much worth considering). Clean Android experience with smooth performance. The Tensor 4 isn’t a benchmark chart-topper, but it did very well with the apps and games I threw at it. [ The improved ] The forward (selfie) camera has massively improved. It has a much higher resolution than the Pixel 8, and when taking pictures with both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 side by side in good lighting, I noticed a huge increase in captured detail. The display has significantly increased peak nit brightness. Compared side-by-side to the Pixel 8 in daylight, the increased brightness and vividness of color, while not huge, is noticeable. It’s hard to judge the battery within the time frame given to TIN reviewers because it usually takes a while for usage and standby times to improve to their ‘normal’ levels. However, the Pixel 9 seems to have better battery longevity from the start than the previous several (at least) generations. Video recorded with the main/rear camera has noticeably clearer detail compared to the Pixel 8. [ The truly new ] The satellite eSOS is a fantastic addition to the Pixel line which will undoubtedly save lives. I’m disappointed that Google is only offering it for free for two years (at least initially) rather than the full seven-year support period, which I imagine Google could have subsidized by offering users paid plans for non-emergency satellite texting services through the satellite carrier. But these are still early days and we still don’t know what to expect from this feature/service in the future. [ Backsliding ] The broadly-rounded display corners cut off too many pixels and too much content. When an app or game displays an ad, sometimes the ‘X’ button is half cut off by the rounded corner. Some app and game UI elements are also partially cut off. This extreme case of aesthetics trumping functionality and usability is the wrong direction for the Pixel line, in my opinion. Google is moving to replace the old assistant with Gemini. The problem is that my experience with Gemini has been a finicky mess. On more than one occasion when I asked it to broadcast a message, and after being prompted for the message, I said “alarms”, it canceled the broadcast and instead brought up the ‘alarm’ tab of the Clock app, which is not what I wanted. When I was setting a timer in the Clock app, it informed me that this is something I can ask the assistant to do, and provided me with a 'try now' button. Tapping on it told me that sorry, Gemini can't do that… despite this actually being a feature Gemini supports. It’s plain crazy that Gemini doesn’t support all the features the old Google Assistant does/did. Gemini isn’t always as easy to use as it should be. For example, if I summon Gemini when viewing an article in the native Chrome app, I have an ‘Ask about this screen’ option which provides context to my prompt; I can then ask Gemini to summarize the article. But, if I were viewing the same article instead from the news feed (swiped from the home screen), this option does not show, and I’d have to go through a fairly ridiculous number of steps to copy and paste the web address into the Gemini prompt. Even if these issues were resolved, an over-glorified auto-complete large language model black box prone to hallucination is not what I want from my phone’s assistant. Moving the SIM card tray next to the microphone at the bottom of the phone and changing the microphone to look almost exactly like the SIM tray ejection hole is an absurd design choice. There will be many people jamming a SIM tray ejector tool hard into that microphone hole–because of the visual ambiguity–and left wondering why the SIM tray isn’t popping out. What the heck, Google? [ The gimmicks ] The new photo editing feature ‘Add Me’ is just a mash-up of what ‘Best Take’ and ‘Magic Editor’ could already do; nothing innovative. With some care taken and mindfulness of limitations, it can produce useful results. The limitations of generative AI are still clear with Reimagine in Magic Editor, and the new Pixel Studio app. For better or worse, edited photos very much look edited. It will mess up the number of appendages on a generated animal. It will disfigure subjects it creates in bizarre ways. It will entirely ignore large portions of your prompts. And worst of all, Magic Editor will usually refuse to make edits of photos containing a person, and will often vaguely error out saying it “can’t complete this edit”. This stuff feels like it belongs in a child’s toy more than a serious product. It would be nice if Google put some focus on implementing some actually useful, serious features. When the heck are we going to get camera focus stacking, Google? I’ve been asking for this for many years. They continue to ignore simple ‘quality of life’ stuff that I and many others have asked for, like expanding the incredibly limited lock screen text. I can barely get in an ‘if found’ and ‘ICE’ (In Case of Emergency) phone numbers, with no room for anything else like a blood type or important medical information that an emergency responder would find useful. Unfortunately, gimmicks sell, so gimmicks we will get. Oh, and more subscription options (like Gemini Live)… while also increasing the price of the phone with each new generation.

If you’re looking to save a few dollars and not interested in the pro features found on the…well, pro models, then the baseline pixel 9 is not going to disappoint. There are really not too many mega features added to the pro models that the average user will miss. Of course, if you’re typically a user of the more advanced features, you’ll want to jump up to the pro level, but the basic everyday user will be more than happy with the 9. Actually, I was surprised to see just how many new and old features were included in the base model and really was only bummed to find the “pro” setting in the camera was missing. But given the name, it makes sense why it is exclusive to the pro models. Still, other phone makers will include the pro settings in all levels and I am kinda confused why google would pull it. The ability to change shutter speed and manual focus etc is not all that “pro” despite the mode name, and as a photographer, I really prefer to have manual controls as an option. And while on the subject of the camera, I personally also don’t like all the auto post editing being done to my photos to “enhance” them, but I know I’m going to be in the minority here and most people will welcome the auto adjustments being made. This includes things like color adjustments, lighting and sharpening. To be fair, it usually does make the image look better, but I would prefer to have an option to leave my shots untouched. (and maybe I haven’t found that toggle yet.) That said, the camera is very good, it has the same lenses as the pro model minus the tele lens. I don’t know why phone makers are doing this, but the idea that we all would rather have a wide angle lens vs a tele zoom lens as our second lens is confusing to me. The wide angles are usually useless and have such bad distortion on the edges that the images are usually useless. I do find myself wanting to zoom in on something far away much more often. But the 2x digital zoom is at least better quality than other phone makers attempts at this. Again, if you feel the need for another lens, buy the pro model. If you’re just a casual shooter, this will work just fine. Design: The new look of the pixel 9 is mostly welcomed. The gorilla glass 2 front AND back is a nice addition. Protecting your device from scratches and cracks better. But I don’t really like the feel/weight of the device. It’s top heavy from the giant camera bulge that makes holding the phone a little awkward at first. After a few days I got used to it more, but it’s still noticeably heavier and top heavy. I also don’t like the apple style straight sides. They make holding the phone feel a little less comfortable than rounded edges and the desire to look more like an iPhone always makes me unhappy. If I want an apple product, I’d buy it. I like android because it’s NOT apple. But that’s personal preference obviously, the part that matters is it’s also just more uncomfortable in the hand. This is all not super important though if you plan on getting a case on the device. Which I would recommend because the camera bump makes laying the phone on it’s back a little awkward, but laying it on it’s face without a case will risk scratching the front screen without a case to provide a little lift. The bezels are flush without a case. That said, I haven’t put a case on it yet, and other than being a little too slippery for my pockets (the phone would fall out of short pockets in the car and couch often) it’s not so slippery or awkward that I’m desperately trying to get a case on it. Battery: The battery is a little bigger than the pixel 8 but having come from a samsung device and not an older pixel, I’m not sure about the comparison to older models. What I do know is there is little to no chance you will run out of battery before the end of day. Even with massive screen use, camera use, voice calls etc, I was still able to make a full day on a charge. Which is a good thing because charging is still insanely slow compared to other phone designs. 30 minutes gets you about 50% charge and a full charge takes over an hour. Unless you wireless charge, which will then take….well too long to clock. I haven’t actually checked because I never had time to waste. What I do know is my car charger is wireless and while running google maps for driving and the screen on, it pretty much held the battery steady but didn’t charge very fast. Over a couple hour drive it went up maybe 10 percent. This will vary based on chargers and use obviously but the idea of getting a quick top up while driving doesn’t sound possible unless you plug it in. Again, not a big deal though because I’m still not running into low battery issues. I also love the adaptive charge option which will slow charge overnight so it’s full by the time your alarm goes off. I had an alarm for 9am and woke up early at 8 and it was full charged. I was asleep so I don’t know how long it took, but in theory it should help long term battery life. Last Thoughts: There are a few other things worth mentioning, although I’m not sure they are all exclusive to the pixel 9. Among all of the new AI features we’re seeing in basically everything with a network connection now, there are a few handy features. I love the ability to screen calls, something that was perfect timing as I have recently had my number sold or hacked because I get about 15 spam calls a day. Now the auto screening is taking care of that for me. However, googles support site says that pixel 7 and above has the option to manually choose which calls to screen, but I do not have that option as of now. I also was told by google that there is an option to make a private partition where you can have applications and files etc behind a password or lock pattern/fingerprint. I have not been able to find this feature yet either but seems similar to samsungs “secure folder” and I assume it’s somewhere, I just haven’t found it yet. This MAY also just be a feature coming in the next android version. Which brings me to the next point, with the release coming earlier than normal, the pixel 9 has the same android version as the others but will of course get the latest update when it comes out. And that is going to be the theme for 7 years, with google saying they will cover 7 years of updates so assuming your battery, screen, or apps don’t get outdated, you can use this phone for a long time. The pixel also comes with gemini, but I have not been impressed YET and still prefer google assistant but I think as time goes on, gemini will be a much better AI assistant. I don’t love that you have to pay for a “premium” version, and will not be doing that, but if you don’t mind throwing more money at google, it will not be a regrettable purchase. Lastly, the new feature to have satellite supported SOS is really nice piece of mind. Although, I don’t usually go places without cell coverage, it does seem most of the time that I am out of range is when I am most likely to need help. Things like snowboarding on the backside of a mountain or hiking deep in the woods. It’s nice to know you can still get help if you need it. Rounding out the new stuff is a load of camera AI features and editing help that you can find info on alllll over the internet, so I won’t get into that now, but suffice it to say, there's plenty of stuff to do to scratch your creativity itch. OVERALL I am enjoying the pixel 9 as a daily driver and although I’ve always been partial to the samsung phones, I think Pixel has really stepped up their game and made a device worth getting over others. Despite a few buggy issues with apps and battery charging woes or the occasional awkward drop on my face, I still think the pixel 9 brings a lot of amazing features and sleek new look to the pixel family. The fingerprint sensor works well from the start and learns as it goes, getting even more accurate along the way, the inclusion of new AI features and all the tools provided by google make this device a pro level phone without the pro name.

So the Pixel 9 continues the industry trend to market primarily on Artificial Intelligence features and capability. Google Gemini, Add Me, Screenshots, Pixel Studio, etc. I'm of the mind that AI things are interesting, and can be fun, but there is too much mud in the water as far as the morality of how these companies have obtained their datasets that kind of puts a damper on the whole thing for me, and this is the biggest issue in the Image generation side of the whole AI generative content thing. But my personal feelings on all that aside, the Pixel 9 is a solid new entry in the Pixel lineup, and this years entry feels far more like a flagship device than they have in years past. I love the matte finish on the frame, but wish they would have continued that with the back glass like they did on the pro models. The smooth back glass feels slippery, almost greasy, and that sucks because otherwise the phone looks amazing. and makes me feel like a skin, or case is almost mandatory to keep it from feeling like dropping it is an inevitability rather than a bad handling issue. Performance wise we aren't really looking at any major gains from last year, but we did get increased ram, mainly to handle those AI workloads on device. Add Me, in the camera, being probably the most interesting if you remember that it's there after the initial novelty wears off. This lets you, as the name suggests, add yourself to group photos in instances where you don't have someone outside the group to take the picture or have a reliable way to prop the device up and use a timer. It's also just interesting in that you can just use it to take pictures that can't exist, like a picture of yourself, hanging out with, yourself... Good fun nonsense. But I feel like this is less of an AI feature and more of an editing feature that's automated? Contrary to the popular opinion from what I have seen others saying, I happen to like the screenshots app. Keeping my screenshots out of my photo gallery, and separated out and indexed in a clean and easy to navigate way is nice, an added bonus being if your pulling up a screenshot to show someone, and they accidentally swipe or back out there's no chance of them seeing the nonsense photos you have taken as well, so that's a fringe benefit. If you know, you know. We get the same main cameras as the Pro this time minus the telephoto one, and that means not losing out on camera quality, though the pro still gets the better front facing camera, so if your big into the selfie game, you might still prefer that one. I myself don't tent to take pictures of myself, so no loss for me. Overall the camera quality is good, though the sometimes can look a little over processed to me, sometimes a little too sharp, but still good quality, and I don't think it will make your pictures look bad on your insta. For mobile gamers, sorry to say, your still getting left out. The latest Snapdragon in competing phones still puts this to shame, that isn't to say you can't game here, but your not going to be putting the settings on Max in every game you try, CoD Mobile runs well though, I myself do not game on my phone that often, I have plenty of other devices for that, and the few mobile games I do play, I tend to play on a tablet because my eyes suck and a smaller phone screen doesn't let me enjoy the experience as much as I'd like. Overall the Pixel 9 is a nice phone, I think the focus on AI is more of a detractor from the phones general premium feel and smooth operation. There's a lot to like here, it's been a joy to use, and coverage is generally pretty good in my area, but I've not had any signal quality issues, dropped calls, or other problems of note. So if your looking for a clean android experience with a solid camera and smooth performance with a longer software support cycle than most, the Pixel 9 is a pretty good choice.

I got this for my mom and she's in love with it. Before this, she had Pixel 7 and this is a nice upgrade for her. Although, she's not a tech savvy which is understandable but she likes to have updated technology. For the price, it's great. This phone takes the most amazing photos for a cell phone! Amazing, bright, crystal clear and colorful OLED display. Looks like an iPhone screen! It charges fast enough, but the battery lasts such a long time. Longer than her older Pixel 7 and requires a lot less energy to charge. I was impressed with the sound. Nice full sound from the speakers, even has some bass. We turned it on, plugged in the Sim card and scanned a code from the old phone and instantly it easily transferred everything from the old phone to the new one. Amazing piece of technology and the price for a brand new name brand phone is unbeatable. She is absolutely in love with it. The camera quality, battery life, and the software experience are all ideal. While the phone does sometimes get warm, every phone brand also gets warm after some usage. The 120hz screen also feels very smooth. Yes, in terms of hardware and benchmark results, it's not the highest, but in real life usage, the overall experience isn't noticeable at all and sometimes I feel like it's a marketing tactic from other brands. Yes it's not ideal for gaming, but there are other phone brands that specially make gaming phones. For all those higher features, I recommend getting the pro version. For someone like my mom, non-pro version gets the job done. It also has wireless charging but I don't think she will use that feature, and it gives the option to wirelessly charge other devices. This phone works better than other peoples PCs IMO. Well worth the investment. Also, it has a feature to use "normal" screen color shades or "vivid" color shades and its beautiful. Probably the best Android phone on the market. I definitely recommend this phone for people that want a decent phone for everyday browsing, streaming media, and a high quality camera.
