Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the Pixel Tablet's sound quality, battery life, ease of use, and the convenient charging dock. Many appreciate the tablet's screen size and design, although some find the price point high for the features offered. A common criticism centers around the 60Hz refresh rate, and some users express concerns about storage limitations and the responsiveness of the Google Assistant. Overall, the positive feedback on key features like audio and battery life outweighs the negative comments regarding price and refresh rate.

The first gen Google Pixel Tablet needs some work. It is very slow to respond to voice commands and I was hoping to have this replace a couple of my google devices in the basement. I am a huge fan of the Samsung Galaxy Tablets (Android based) and thought for that reason that I would love this tablet. Unfortunately, I am not in love and returned it. I also wish the speaker would work without the tablet on it. I have a feeling google will fix everything for the 2nd gen and life will be great and they may even compete with Samsung. As of right now, The Galaxy tablet is by themself at the top.

Meh. I love all things Pixel phone (I own two), but this tablet was a disappointment. My disappointments were awkward dimensions (awkward for portrait view), poor sound quality from the speaker dock, and noticeable lag with widgets and the Google feed screens. I guess I realized, for me (perhaps not you), I'm not a fan wide dimension tablets. It makes handling limited and awkward. Last, the display has poor viewing angles. Good screen head on, but it reminded me an iPad Mini 4 screen with bad viewing angles.

Cool for a tablet, wish they went with glass on the screen because plastic feels real cheaply made. Dock idea is cool but there is no notification for nest doorbell. Real deal breaker for me. I noticed I have to speak louder for it to register my voice. Some cases it barely give you an indication it registered. Not for me, but if you using it for a tablet it will get the job done.

PROS: FAIRLY PRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET LIGHTWEIGHT STAYS CHARGE UP AND READY TO USE HARDWARE FEELS PREMIUM QUALITY NICE GRIPPY BACK TEXTURE BEZEL IS NICE TO HAVE ALWAYS HAVE THE LATEST ANDROID UPDATES CAN CAST TO IT FROM OTHER DEVICES CONS: BUTTONS HARD TO FIND/USE NO STYLUS SPEAKER PLACEMENT WOULD BE A REALLY GREAT CHOICE/PRICE w/o SPEAKER DOCK I’ve owned Pixel phones since the original Pixel and now have the Pixel 7 Pro. I’ve always enjoyed the minimal software and ease of customization with the Google line of phones, and recently the cameras as well. So I was looking forward to getting my hands on the new Pixel Tablet. Obviously, being a tablet, the camera is what it is, but the software and overall experience is about like using one of the phones, but with a larger screen. Especially since I used my phone during the setup process to copy all of my settings, apps, etc. over. So I have everything setup just like my phone. That may or may not be something you want or appreciate, but it was a super simple way for me to setup the tablet without spending hours setting it up to my liking. I was then able to make changes, like making some of the widgets larger, etc. to better utilize the larger screen. So what sets the Pixel tablet apart from the plethora of other tablets on the market. Honestly, not much. As mentioned, if you like the experience of the Pixel phones, you pretty much know what you’re getting as far as the experience goes. Then obviously the biggest, and really only other, difference is the speaker dock. I also own the Google Nest Hub Max, really, when you dock the Pixel Tablet onto the speaker dock, it’s almost identical to that product. I feel like this is what should’ve come out instead of the Nest Hub Max as it’s virtually the same thing, but you can actually take the screen off and use it as a tablet when you want/need. Now that this product is out, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nest Hub Max is discontinued. Yes that product is cheaper, but if you’re spending a couple hundred on a smart display, you might as well spend a couple more and get this product that can also be used as a tablet instead. It’s not perfect though, and hopefully some of the issues I’ve experienced will (they definitely can) be fixed with software updates. Then there’s things that probably should’ve been there from the start, like being able to have “Do Not Disturb” come on when you dock the tablet. Obviously not an issue, but just maybe a slight oversight (or even personal preference I guess…). My biggest issue with it I suppose is the size of the buttons, or lack thereof. There are only volume and power buttons, and I can appreciate trying to make them minimal, but they are hard to find/press in my opinion. The volume button is barely raised above the side of the tablet, and the power button (which is also the fingerprint scanner) is slightly depressed and rather than completely on the side, it sort of wraps slightly toward the rounded back edge of the tablet. I just feel they could be a little bit more prominent to help find them better without looking, especially since on the opposite side of the table there are elongated rubber “feet” that feel like a volume button. Then there’s the stylus support. The tablet supports USI 2.0 type stylus. Which is good that there trying to have a universal standard, but if you have one of the stylus that come with the Samsung Tablets, they will not work, and Google (as of yet) does not sell one for the tablet. You can find plenty of decent one, but just seems like that would be something they’d sell along with the tablet (or even include with it). And maybe they will at some point in the future…. Another thing is the placement of the speakers. There are 4 speaker slots, and they sound pretty decent, but the problem is when you hold the tablet in landscape mode (as you would for most things you may need the speakers for, i.e. videos) there’s really no good way to hold the thing without covering up at least one of the speakers (or two if you’re holding it with both hands). Seems like they could’ve placed the speakers a little differently to avoid this. Maybe most people will have the tablet propped up when they are listening to something, but it just seems like another oversight. What they did get right though was including the speaker dock with the tablet. Which is also why I think this replaces the Nest Hub Max. They sell the speaker docks separately so they could’ve left that as a separate accessory to buy and charged a significant amount less for the tablet, but without it, it’s probably a pretty underwhelming tablet (although pretty decent for what the price would’ve probably been). Honestly the speaker dock is probably one of my favorite things about the product. Not so much that I use the speaker (although it is nice and sounds decent for it’s size), but mostly because anytime I want to use the tablet it’s always charged up! I swear the other tablets I own lose battery just sitting on the counter. Yeah I could always leave them plugged in too, but that will significantly shorten the battery life. With the tablet on the speaker dock though, it only charges to 90% to help minimize effects on the longevity of the battery. I have mine setup on my nightstand and use it when I go to bed. It’s always charged up and when I’m done I stick it back on the dock (it connects via magnets in both) and it becomes my alarm clock. You also have the ability to Cast to it from other devices. If you have a Pixel phone though and are signed into your accounts on both, you can just pick up where you left off from one to the other, but if not, and you maybe found a video you wanted to watch, then decided you need to see it on a bigger screen, you can just cast it to the tablet the same as you would cast it to a TV. You can also share files via “Nearby Share”. I also personally appreciate that they added (or kept maybe, as it’s similar to the Nest Hub Max) a bezel all away around the tablet. You honestly can’t hold most tablets that don’t have a case on them and not accidentally interact with the touchscreen (I hate this about phones too). It’s not overly big, but just enough to be able to wrap your thumb around and get a better grip when holding it. And it’s actually pretty light for a tablet. So would I recommend the Pixel Tablet? I guess it depends. As I mentioned, if you’re already in the market for a smart display, I think it’s a no brainer to spend a little more and get this instead. You will be able to do everything you could on a smart display and then some. If not, luckily there are a lot of options for Android tablets these days, and some really good ones at that, so it just depends on what you want out of it and what “ecosystem” you’re already heavily in. But from my experience, most of the Android products, whether phones, tablets, TV’s, all pretty much all “play nice” together. And none of the other options come with a speaker dock/charging station that keep your tablet always ready to use, which can be a nice convenience you may not know you’re missing.

Though the Google tablet works fine, it's not up to the mark on standards. The pictures and icons are not crisp and the apps run slow. Very disappointed with the quality of the product. Google could have done better given the overproduction of tablets from different companies in the market.

Smooth Performance: Is the Price worth it?

    Posted .

The display of this product is exceptionally crisp and vibrant, making browsing a delightful experience. Once detached from the charging speaker, it becomes convenient for browsing purposes. The tablet performs admirably, allowing me to multitask smoothly without any noticeable lag. With its decent 128GB storage capacity, I have ample space for my apps and files. However, it's worth noting that the price of this product is on the higher side compared to other Android tablets available in the market. The inclusion of the charging speaker/dock contributes to the increased cost. If the primary function of the dock is not a priority for you, it might be more cost-effective to purchase a separate speaker and tablet. Nevertheless, it is still a nice product overall. Considering these factors, I am contemplating returning it, but I recognize its value and appreciate its quality.
