Watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google has come out with a solid contender in the smart watch market. With a big emphasis on Fitbit health tracking, the Pixel watch is looking to take a bite out of Apple. Although, they're probably more likely to take some Samsung customers instead. The Pixel watch has all the features you'd expect from a top tier smart watch. Sleek, futuristic design. Water resistance and fitness/health tracking. Calls, texts and smart home controls. There's nothing really new to the game, so it'll be interesting to see where the Pixel can outdo its competition. I found setup to be extremely easy, even with my differently-branded phone - though still an Android. If you don't have an Android phone I expect setup will take a few extra steps, as you'll need a Google account. Being left-handed I was excited to see that you can set the watch up for wearing on the right wrist. I assume this probably isn't a new feature for smart watches, but my old Galaxy watch doesn't have it, so I got a kick out of it. As appearance goes, the Pixel watch is pretty good looking. It certainly looks high quality and built/designed well. If Apple had done a round watch, I imagine it would look like this. I'm a tall guy and it does look a little undersized on my wrist, but not so much that I am embarrassed to wear it. The included band is plastic/vinyl, which I feel is a tad too informal for the quality of the device, though alternative replacements are available for purchase. With Google's acquisition of Fitbit last year the one area it looks to eke ahead is with health monitoring. About half of the pre-installed apps, or "tiles", are Fitbit trackers. Having worn this watch in conjunction with my Galaxy watch, it puts to question how accurate these trackers are. One particular day the Pixel tracked me over 11,000 steps, but the Galaxy tracked less than 9,000. Last night's REM sleep only totalled 47 minutes according to Fitbit, but Samsung says over 2 hours. At the moment, at least for step-counting, I think the Pixel could improve. My phone also tracks steps and works with my Galaxy watch, so if I don't have one of the devices on me, they'll sync up for a more precise total. The Fitbit tracker ignores my phone's counts and only keeps a tally of the steps I take while wearing the Pixel. That being said, I do not have a Pixel phone, which probably has a few more capabilities associated with the Pixel watch. I am a bit disappointed with the battery life of the watch. It's claimed that a full charge lasts about 24 hours. This time frame is pretty accurate, if not slightly underestimated. On paper that looks like a decent amount of time, but in reality it is annoying. My other watch, which is several years old now, lasts 3 days between charging. Expect to have to charge this watch daily, even if you don't use any apps. On the plus side, it charges extremely fast. Speaking of fast, I am impressed with the time it takes the Pixel to carry out a command. For example, controlling a smart plug to turn on a lamp is frustratingly slow through my other watch. The app opens quickly enough, but the smart devices take a few seconds to connect before you can control them. The connection via Google Home with the Pixel watch is instant. Navigating Google Home takes some brain power, but that's a different review. Keep in mind that you'll need a USB-C port somewhere to charge this watch. For the quality of the watch, it being a maiden flagship device, and the price, I'm a little surprised a charging brick isn't included. I realize most devices are omitting it as well, but Google has decided to use USB-C for the charging disk. I have dozens of USB-A bricks, but none for C. I have to turn on a laptop just to charge my watch. Certainly not a deal breaker, but it would've been nice if a USB-C to USB-A adapter was included. What I like: - the face can be flipped for wearing on the right wrist - looks and feels like a high-quality product - easily paired with my non-Pixel phone - low-lag connection; texts, calls, Google Home commands - charges quickly Room for improvement: - a slightly larger option - longer battery life - charger plug or USB-c to USB-a adapter included

Great as a fitness tracker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Pixel Watch is a great watch for tracking your steps, heartbeat, and other exercise activities. This watch has Fitbit pre-installed. Setting up the watch out of the box was very easy. It paired automatically with my S22 Ultra when I turned the watch on. It asks to install certain apps that are on your phone and other than having to do an update on the firmware, it was ready to go after that. You also have an option to add this as a stand alone communication device, basically a phone on your wrist, but check and make sure your LTE provider supports it, and of course it will cost you a bit extra on cellphone plan. One thing I noticed immediately is that even the largest watchband is on the small side. I'm 6'2", 220, not small, but also not huge, and I have to use the watch with the largest band and last hole, and it is kind of tight. The watch face is also smaller than a traditional man's watch. Also battery life could be better in my opinion. Just using it like a normal watch, putting it on in around 6 in the morning and basically just wearing it until about 7-8p, the battery usually goes down to around 20%. There is a battery saver mode, but makes the watch much less friendly to use. Likes: 1.) Excellent for tracking fitness 2.) Easy to navigate and use 3.) Ability to use it as a phone Dislikes: 1.) Watch face and band are on the small side. 2.) Battery life

Great Smart/Fitness Watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially, I was hesitant to get a wearable since I figured it would be yet another distraction. However, I was upgrading my phone to a Pixel 7 Pro and figured that I might as well take the leap and go with the Google Watch as a compliment. I have to admit that I was wrong. I'm glad I have this watch. Right off the bat, I'm a fan of the aesthetics of the watch, even with the default band. I've had no issues with the interface, so locating apps, options, or settings in the menus has been a breeze. The default watch faces have plenty of options for customization and if that's not enough, then you can find more on the app store. Syncing the watch to the phone and configuring the various apps was relatively seemless. I did experience a small issue with Fitbit. I had to repeat the sync process 3 or 4 times. However, this could have been a connectivity issue with the Fitbit account instead of the watch. I've had no issues with receiving and responding to watch notifications. I expected to have issues with using the keyboard, but I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't register incorrect characters while typing on the watch face. The first 2 days, I was concerned about the battery life. It seemed to drain quite quickly (around 20% in the late evening). Each day after the first two, the watch has lasted dramatically longer. I'm very impressed by how quickly you can charge the watch to full. My watch will charge from less than 20% to completely full in less than an hour! I wish the Google Watch could sync the alarm with my Pixel 7 Pro. I don't think there is a solution to this, so I did have to create alarms independently from the phone. This has not been a deal breaker for me. It was easy enough to set an alarm on the watch. So far, I am very pleased with the Google Watch.

If Only the Battery Lasted Longer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Pixel phone owner for years, I was really looking forward to pairing it with an actual Pixel watch. When it finally arrived, I couldn’t wait to try it out. The watch is beautiful, the nicest looking smart watch I’ve seen. It comes with two different band sizes, some users with small wrists say they appreciate the smaller band because other similar watches have bands that are too big for them. The watch connected very easily to the Google Pixel Watch App. (You do not connect it to the generic ‘Wear OS’ app like other Android watches.) The Pixel watch app handles everything and soon you are up and running. If you’re familiar with the Android OS watches, you’ll be very comfortable with this Pixel, there won’t be a big learning curve. If you have a Fitbit account, it’ll be especially easy. I didn’t have one, but it was easy to download the app and set it up. It worked flawlessly with the watch. Things I weren’t thrilled with: The watch face is SMALL. Smaller than other smartwatches I’ve tried. To some, this may be a good thing, but to me, since you use the watch to get information as well as well as the time, the font is smaller, and you usually have to start scrolling to see most of the messages. Perhaps in the future, Google could create a Pixel watch and a larger “Pixel Pro” watch to satisfy people like me (I’m a fan of the Pixel Pro phone.) But the biggest problem by far was the horrible battery life compared to many other smartwatches. I did NOT have the “Always On” enabled and yet after 24 hours I’d have less than 15 percent life. This means that you must charge the watch once a day, the same as your phone. A problem with doing this is that unlike my phone which I charge overnight, I’d like to use the Pixel watch to analyze my sleep pattern, which it did quite nicely, so you can’t charge the watch while you sleep. You must pick a time of day to charge the watch and it takes over an hour to get it back to 100 percent. Since this is a common complaint with this watch, I’ll bet the smart people at Google will be able to improve battery life on future Pixel watches, but I’d hate to pay so much for THIS watch and then read about a NEW google watch coming out later with a much-improved battery life. Another watch brand which uses Wear OS gives you well over two days of battery life setting it up the same way I’m using this watch. Bottom line, the new Google Pixel watch is beautiful, looks less like a ‘computer’ than other smartwatches, and I’m sure you’d be proud to show it off, but from a practical standpoint, you might want to wait until the next generation of these watches.

Posted .Hi AlanD963, we greatly appreciate your feedback on Pixel Watch. The new Google Pixel Watch is a fully featured smartwatch with LTE capabilities, a bright display and robust haptics. These features require additional power over what is needed for other devices, but also provides helpfulness and health insights even when you don’t have your phone on you (LTE only).
Maximum battery life is approximate and is based on testing using pre-production hardware and software. Charging times are approximate. Use of certain features will decrease battery life. Battery life depends on features enabled, usage, environment and many other factors. Actual battery life may be lower.
Having a large screen/display size option is a great idea, and we’ll definitely pass this information to the right team for future improvements. And if you have questions or concerns, please let us know anytime at the Google Nest Help page here: https://support.google.com/googlepixelwatch/gethelp

A gem, but not without its flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Pixel Watch is a gorgeous wearable smart device; aesthetically it is a home run. But despite being a jewel in appearance, there are some flaws in this diamond. This version is the LTE version, which can be configured with many different carriers to support its own LTE connection independent of your phone. It will also work just fine without it, just know you'll need your phone for fullest capability then. The watch is 41mm with an OLED screen. It's nice enough to be "dressy" and it's round form factor looks more watch-like than the squares of other smartwatches. The round screen does give a feeling of a "porthole" screen but I found it easier to deal with than I'd anticipated. A knock I have against it is that the default rubber watch band isn't the nicest looking and it would be nice to be able to configure your desired watch band when ordering. Otherwise you end up with a band you may not like, and then have to buy one that you do. Setup wasn't too hard, but a little more complicated than a typical Google setup because of the Fitbit integration, so you have to sign into Google and Fitbit and get those apps. It seemed there was a lot of app updating to do. The Fitbit app I was familiar with from my old Fitbit Versa, while the Watch app was new. I greatly appreciated the Watch app as someone who now needs bifocals: every configuration of the watch--Tiles, watch faces, colors, configuration, etc.--can be done in the app on my phone. Much easier than on the watch screen and it all worked very well. Navigation around the phone is pretty easy. Swiping to the left/right takes through Tiles, which are customizable information screens like weather, heart rate monitoring, exercise tracker, sleep tracker, etc. Swipe down for the settings icons, which also includes the watch flashlight function. (I really liked that it included a red light option for preserving night vision!). Swiping up brings notifications. The crown on the side can be pressed to bring up apps, act as a back button, or can be rotated for navigation through notifications. It also serves as the ECG monitor, which worked fine in my testing (thankfully no Afib detected!). Above it lies a small button that if pushed brings up recently used items, while long pressing it brings up the Google Assistant, which also can be voice-activated. Google Wallet is supported so you can use it as a payment method, but it might be awkward to get your wrist placed on some terminals. (Just remember to enter your passcode first to keep the phone unlocked for this. The watch will remain in that unlocked state so long as you're wearing it.) Battery life is a little disappointing. This isn't a device that you're going to get multiple days of use out of on a single charge. I've gone more than a day without charging, but heavy users may well need to charge daily, which undermines its sleep tracking function. The included charging cable is a unique one for this device, with a Type-C connector on one end and a magnetic, rounded end that attaches to the bottom of the watch for charging. The Fitbit integration makes it feel familiar if you've used one previously--picking up from my previous FB settings it sets my step goal and reminds me to get up and move through my set active hours. The full set of exercise integration apps are still there as well. Overall, it's a good effort from Google to reestablish itself in the Android wearables market. I think the value proposition could stand to be improved, in particular with the bands. Despite using a relatively older Samsung SoC, it feels fluid and fast, but I wonder if a newer SoC might give better battery life. The aesthetics are impeccable, although with just the one size, those with beefy wrists may find the 41mm size diminutive on their arm, and the included rubber band is blah. But for most Android users, I think they'd overall be very happy to wear one. Recommended for Android users (Tested on a Samsung S20+ on Android 12/One UI 4.1).

Convenient features, sleek design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, I really like my Pixel Watch. It’s not perfect, but it’s a great addition to my wrist and to my phone. The device itself feels minimalist in its design. It’s very sleek, and the domed display really looks nice. I have a somewhat smaller wrist, I have generally worn watches that are understated, so the overall size works well for me. So does the smaller band, conveniently included in the box. Someone who has a larger wrist or prefers their watch have more of a physical presence might be a bit underwhelmed. Setup was quick and easy with my Pixel phone. It’s a bit surprising that instead of using the same Wear OS app that I was using for my last Wear OS watch, this one has its own App. Is it really that different from other Wear OS devices? Oh well, installing another app wasn’t that much of a burden, and I was up and running about ten minutes after the unboxing. I’ve used Wear OS before, but even for someone new, I would imagine that the menu system is easy to understand, and the controls are intuitive. The subtle haptic feedback is particularly helpful on such a small interface. Most times, the watch is peppy and responsive, but there have been a few moments when it felt like my taps and swipes took a moment or two to register. The microphone and speaker are good enough quality – nothing I’d want to try to enjoy music through, or even join a long conference fall from, but they’re decent enough to talk to Google Assistant and/or take a quick phone call. I’ll note that I haven’t activated the LTE function with my wireless carrier yet, so my calls were handled by my phone. In this mode, the Pixel Watch was essentially acting as a second screen and Bluetooth speakerphone. The apps and fitness tracking are similar to what I’ve used on other Wear OS watches, but this one has some unique features. First, there is Fitbit integration, so I’ve got that whole ecosystem of step and activity tracking. Second, in addition to a pulse meter, which is common on smart watches these days, the Pixel Watch can measure your heart’s electrical activity (electrocardiogram/ECG). After I launched the Fitbit ECG app and held my fingertip on the face of the side button (crown) for 30 seconds, my Pixel Watch told me that I had a normal heart rhythm, and the FitBit app provided a PDF of the ECG (in case I wanted to share with my doctor). Very cool! One of my favorite features as someone who has a Pixel phone and Pixel Watch is the Pixel Camera app. I can launch my phone’s camera, preview the camera lens view, and trigger the shutter (with a 3 sec delay) all from my watch. Very convenient for selfies and group shots! Battery life has been decent, but not amazing. I generally charge the watch for about 20-30 minutes when I’m getting ready in the morning and another 20-30 minutes again when I’m wrapping up my day and getting ready for bed. That’s been enough to keep it going most days. There were a few times when the battery started to run low, and the Battery Saver mode came in handy. Heavy users might need to charge more often or be okay with the fact that Battery Saver cuts some features to preserve charge. The Google Pixel Watch has some room for improvement, and might not be prefect for everyone, but overall, it has been working out well for me. I’ve been wearing it every day, using it to get quick updates, send quick replies to incoming messages, and track steps, sleep, and other activity. Also, I do enjoy the look of the watch on my wrist.

Rough debut, but not terrible
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Pixel Watch is a rough introduction to the smartwatch market for Google, feeling rushed and unpolished. It’s not a bad smartwatch, and may still be worth consideration for early adopters and those heavily invested in the Google/Android ecosystem. But I think the average user would better off waiting (and hoping) for improvements in future iterations. I did not test the LTE functionality of this model. I was expecting the non-LTE model, but a shipping mix-up left me with the LTE model. [ The good ] For all the nitpicks I may have with this watch, it’s still a very functional device. It does most of what I’d expect from a smart watch, and a lot of what I’d expect from a fitness tracker. It looks sleek and comes with two silicone bands which feel nice, cover a reasonably wide range of wrist sizes, tuck away nicely, and are quick and easy to swap. Build quality all around seems solid. The built-in Google Assistant is quite handy, providing a convenient means of navigating around the various functions of the device, as well as providing voice input as an alternative to the tiny on screen keyboard which can be cumbersome to use. The user interface is highly configurable, including watch face layout customization, ‘complication’ selection, a large array of pastel color themes to choose from, and a tile system that acts as both the display of useful information, as well as launching points for commonly used apps. The heart rate tracking is exceptionally responsive. The screen is reasonably bright and quite useable outside in the sunlight. Provides convenient access to notifications from your phone, with meaningful interactions/responses provided in many cases. [ The bad ] The elephant in the room is the “all day” battery capacity which is an overly generous description. I might manage 24 hours with battery-conserving settings and light usage. But more demanding settings such as always-on display and tracking several exercises/activities throughout the day can really put the hurt on battery charge. If I accidentally fail to turn on ‘bedtime’ mode, then I’m likely to wake up with a completely empty battery and either no or partially tracked sleep. I haven’t seen a way to schedule this mode automatically. Making matters worse is that only the official/included charging cradle is supported. I think, at a minimum, they should have supported reverse wireless charging from Pixel phones, the type of feature that can be found in a popular competing product. I can imagine battery life decay over time becoming an exceptionally annoying issue, especially considering the battery seems to be non-replaceable. The minor saving grace here is that the battery charges quickly (officially about 30/55/80 minutes for 50/80/100% recharge, which closely matches my experience). This watch doesn’t quite feel like a full-blown fitness tracker. Some sensor features like blood oxygen and skin temperature are missing completely. Automatic activity tracking seems minimally implemented (not really a listed feature). Activity tracking lacks many metrics and features found in Fitbit and other competing watches. The way many features–which are purely software logic–are locked behind the overpriced Fitbit Premium membership feels practically predatory. And the fact that the Fitbit app is completely separate from the Watch app (the latter used to set up and configure the watch) and requires a separate account is just clumsy. Various nitpicks include: - Some apps didn’t feel as useful as they could or should. For example, when paired to a phone, voice prompts in the Maps app were played through the phone’s speaker instead of the watch’s speaker. Ideally, there should be a setting to change this behavior, but I did not see one. It also doesn’t seem to support offline maps the way the Maps app on phones does. Home integration seemed to be lacking some basic features that would be nice to have; like I couldn’t view my Nest doorbell or security cameras. - The maximum volume of the speaker is rather anemic, though usually sufficient in a quiet atmosphere to understand assistant voice responses and phone calls. - The button above the crown, used for accessing recently used apps and activating the assistant voice input, is sized and placed in a way that made it quite inconvenient for me to use. - Enormous unused bezel around the display. - The domed bottom surface creates a bit of a pressure point on the wrist which may bother some users, especially if wearing it to bed at night where certain positions can increase that pressure. - The stiffness of the band can make firm docking to the charging puck awkward and can require a bit of fidgeting. - The smart home integration is a bit lacking, though it appears that Google is working on improving on this with future updates.

Amazing Smart Watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Google Pixel Watch is a fantastic device that takes all the great features of Google Pixel Phones and the Android OS and puts them on your write. First off, the watch looks great. Mine was Matte Black Stainless Steel with an Obsidian Active watchband. It feels very sturdy and looks like a watch that could be worn by a office professional or an outdoorsman. Out of the box, there is a charging cable that is USB-C on one end and a magnetic charger on the other end. There is no wall charging box. There are 2 sizes of watchbands: large (which was already attached) for wrists 165-210mm around, and small for wrists 130-175mm around. The watchband has a comfortable silicone feel that doesn't pinch or grab arm hair. I was quickly able to pair it to my phone and walk through some initial setup screens on my phone. It logged me into my Google Account, verified using Google Assistant, paired with my Fitbit account, and then communicated with my cell phone provider. Be aware that your cell phone provider may charge to add the watch to your current service. After that, there was a system update and a restart, followed by the preloaded basic applications doing their updates. There was a handy on-screen tutorial during these updates that showed me how to navigate the screen and what the side buttons do. Setup took 5 minutes. I started exploring the apps and adding a few more that were already on my phone. I was quickly able to view my texts and emails, and customize my alerts for both. I was able to set my daily alarm. I went into the Fitbit app on my phone and paired it with my watch and was able to see some quick data like heartbeat count. The Google Assistant is very useful and I could change the different ways that it can be accessed. Google Maps knew where I was and I downloaded Google Home so that I could see my connected TVs. The sound quality on calls was fantastic and everyone could hear me just fine with the watch not particularly close to my mouth. The charge on the watch lasted just over 1 day, and a full charge took about 75 minutes to acquire. One thing to know is that the watch can only be charged with the Google Pixel Magnetic Charging Cable that is supplied in the box; other wireless or Qi chargers are not supported. There is also a Find my Watch feature that will help me find my watch (and phone) should I ever lose them. Basically, this is like an amazingly useful cellphone that you wear on your wrist. It is almost more intuitive than a cell phone because there are only a few buttons and the rest of the watch is controlled by different swipes and taps. I haven't found anything that the Google Pixel Watch can't do. It looks great, operates great, and stays charged for the day. I highly recommend the Google Pixel Watch to any user that needs mobile productivity and communication, or even just for fun.

The Android Watch I’ve been waiting for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The watch arrived in all cardboard and paper packaging. No plastic which is great. Set up was simple, I downloaded the Watch app from the Play Store and it was very easy to follow. Connecting to Verizon was easy, you do need to prepare for this, though. You add the device to your account (for me this was an additional monthly charge). This will generate a QR code that you then scan during the setup process on your phone. The LTE version of the watch allows you to make and receive calls and text messages while not in range of your phone. This is great if you go for a walk and don’t want to carry your phone with you. The design of the watch is minimal, and at first I was worried it would be too small. But, after a few hours, the screen size was not an issue. Taps are very well registered, and swiping gestures work very well. The digital crown, press and scroll, is smooth and fluid. I found the additional button above the crown to be difficult to press at first, but eventually got used to it. GPS tracking and heart rate monitoring are an exact match to another smartwatch I have. I like how you can change watch faces in the app on your phone. I use the tap and raise to wake features, not the always on display. This is something I’m used to with other watches, and I’d rather not have the screen on all of the time - this also helps with battery. I’ve had no problems with battery life - gps tracking on walks or runs, responding to a few messages, controlling music playback. I charge the phone for about an hour in the morning, and then again a bit at night before bed. This allows me to take advantage of the sleep tracking features, which are part of FitBit+ (the watch included a 6 month trial membership to FitBit+). Overall, this is a very premium looking and feeling device, that performs well and has enough battery life for me. If you are in the Android ecosystem, you should definitely try this watch. For me, it is the one I’ve been waiting for.

Posted .Hello IrvinJ, thanks for leaving feedback and insights about the Pixel Watch and we're glad that you like it. We hear your concerns about the battery life linking your alarms to your phone
The new Google Pixel Watch comes equipped with settings to care for and help extend battery life. You can turn on Battery Saver when your Google Pixel Watch battery gets low. Please note while Battery Saver is on, the ""Always-on screen"" and ""Tilt-to-wake"" feature will be set to Off. For sleep tracking, you will need a minimum 30% charge (about 30 minutes to 50%). Try charging during your morning routine or during your wind-down time at night so the battery lasts while you’re sleeping. Also, you can set alarms and use the timer and stopwatch on your smartwatch. If your watch and your phone are synced, alarms set on your phone also go off on your watch. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/wearos/answer/6300982

Buy the thing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've literally been waiting years for this watch and Google did not disappoint. It's super sleek, customizable from watch faces to colors to tiles and apps, and the UI is buttery smooth. If you're in the market for a smart watch with all the versatility of Google and Google Assistant, as well as how robist Fitbit's health tracking can be, i definitely would recommend this.

Solid
