Okay First Attempt, Needs Major Work to Compete

The Google smartwatch everyone has been waiting years for and it doesn't live up to the anticipation. I'm not the biggest smartwatch fan, I like them as an idea to do specific things. But I was intrigued by the Pixel Watch as I just recently picked up the Pixel 7 Pro and wanted to see if it could replace my Fitbit Charge 5. The thing I like about the Pixel Watch the most is the look of it. It looks like a nice black pebble and is really light weight so I tend to forget about it being there. The thick bezel is a non issue as I don't feel a smartwatch is meant to as something I'm constantly interacting with. And that's about it as far as what I've liked in the week I've used this watch. Now on to the things I haven't enjoyed during my time with the Pixel Watch: * Battery Life is terrible on LTE, it barely makes it through my 0730 - 1630 workday and half of the time dies before then. Solely on Bluetooth, it'll last through the day and an 1.5 hr workout...barely. * Pulls Heartrate data every second...it doesn't need to do that and haven't found a way in the settings of the watch or Fitbit's app to stop it. * The watchband is the same as those on the Fitbit watches and I absolutely hate them as the rubber tends to cause a rash on the inner side of my wrist area, and unfortunately 3rd party band market is pretty non-existent for this watch at the moment. * Fitbit integration at this stage feels more like a substituted side dish vs an actual part of the experience. Just rebrand Fitbit and Google Fit into Google Fitbit or Fitbit by Google and close the loop. Overall, it is a good first attempt by Google from the hardware side, but the software leaves much to the daily experience left out. I'll be going back to my Charge 5 until I feel Google has put some work into the product via software updates to make using it as a daily carry more viable.

Hi there doop22, we appreciate your insights. We're sorry to hear that the new Google Pixel Watch didn't live up to your expectations.

The battery life of your Pixel Watch will depend mainly on how you use it. The maximum battery life is approximate and is based on testing using pre-production hardware and software. How you use certain features and which features are enabled will decrease battery life as well. It will also depend on usage, environment and many other factors. Actual battery life may be lower. A full battery for Google Pixel Watch goes all day with a charge that lasts up to 24 hours to support sleep tracking and other features. Google Pixel Watch comes equipped with settings to care for and help extend battery life. The 24 hour battery life is based on the following usage:
      - 240 notifications.
      - 280 time checks.
      - A 5 min LTE phone call.
      - 45 min LTE and GPS workout with downloaded YouTube music playback.
      - 50 minutes of navigation (Google Maps) while connected to a phone via Bluetooth.
      - The watch is configured with the default settings, including the Always-on display set to off.
      - We recommend checking if your typical usage goes beyond or less than the prescribed use of the features for your Google Pixel Watch.

Your Pixel Watch comes with a low-power optical heart-rate sensor. To determine your heart rate, Pixel Watch flashes its green LEDs many times per second and uses light-sensitive photodiodes to detect the changes in the capillaries above your wrist. Then your device calculates how many times your heart beats per minute (bpm). This process helps improve the accuracy for the heart rate reading of your Pixel Watch. Good intentions but horrible results

Great design, works for left/right handed people. Has some good intentions. I had started a 2hr weights and cardio workout with 74% battery ended with 17%. Advertised works with Fitbit reality partially works. LTE version still needs the phone to steam music. Can't turn off notifications to save battery life. With every notification I watch the battery drop 3% every 10 minutes. Got to charge the watch twice a day. Battery saver turns off 75% of the watches functions. Including Google Assistant. The case functions well but that's about it. My Fitbit sense used to play music until Google. Everything on while playing music I still had all day battery life. The truth is if the battery life was better, this would be a fantastic watch.

    Meh Smartwatch

This smartwatch was surprisingly underwhelming. It crashes and freezes alot. The battery life on LTE is abysmal. It won't even last 12 hours. In the mornings, I just put it on and go. Sometimes it has to be unlocked in the morning, and you never know that because most of time time, it is unnecessary. However, I will go several hours and not get any notifications. Then I unlock my watch and it "starts", and then I get all these missed notifications. I was really looking forward to this watch, as my Pixel phone has been amazing. Sadly, this was quite disappointing.

Ended up like a Sense that I have to charge more

Battery: I knew based on reviews it was poor, particularly compared to the Fitbit Sense I was using prior to the Pixel watch. Due to the poor battery life AND slow charging capabilities I either need to charge it in the morning and evening for 20-30 min at a time or go for 45-60 min without the watch on for a single charge. This is on days I DON'T workout and I have the majority of the features disabled in the watch. I only use it to receive text messages, time (obv), and heart rate/activity/sleep tracking. Poor battery renders most of the watch's functionally useless since features either need to be turned off to preserve battery life or you need to take it off to charge during which time you can't use the watch anyways. LTE: I work in a hospital providing patient care. I opted to pay extra for the LTE so I wouldn't have to lug my phone around in my very limited scrubs pocket space. This way, I could continue to communicate with my colleagues while on the floors and not have to worry about my phone falling out when squatting and/or having it jab into my leg or abdomen. Unfortunately, if I've been away from my phone for more then 30 min I get a message stating I'm not connected to my phone and I'm unable to send any text messages. A quick Google search shows this has been a problem since Dec 2022 which has not been resolved. It gets 2 stars because of its potential, beautiful interface, excellent activity tracking, and seamless connection to Fitbit features. If I could return it for the non-LTE version I would but I've passed that point so I'm hoping at the VERY least the LTE functionality works with an update but I'm not holding my breath. I opted to get this for $50 more rather than repurchasing a Sense which at this point I think is a 2 yr old device. However, I've ended up with a prettier device with the same level of practical functionally, that I'm able to wear less due to charging requirements.

Overpriced scratch magnet that can't hold a charge

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Honestly I do like the watch. It looks sleek, has cool health tracking, and generally has all the features that I would want in a smart watch. That said, for $400, this watch shouldn't have gotten scratched up they way it has in less than a week of ownership. It also can't seem to hold a charge. Yes, I bought a screen protector, but they all have a long ship time at this point. I figured if I was VERY careful with this watch that I purchased for ALMOST HALF A GRAND, it could make it through a week without getting damaged until the screen protector got to me. Unfortunately, by day 7, the face has gotten scuffed and scratched up by what I presume to be dust, bed sheets, and the underside of my soft, long t-shirts. I am not exaggerating - there is no way a normal person could use this watch and not get its face scratched up. Even if I wanted to, there are no avenues to get this repaired. I wish there had been a warning about the extreme fragility of the screen. I would have waited for the screen protector had I known. Please heed my warning if you want your watch looking decent after more than a few hours - do not even take it out of the box without some sort of protection. In addition, this watch can't seem to make it through 24 hours without dying. Previous smart watches I used could go through 24 hours, charge while I shower, and be good to go. Now, the battery dies before I get to shower, and it doesn't charge to 100% by the time I'm ready to put it back on. It's clear Google didn't consider the fact that people would actually use these watches in real life. It's a beautiful concept, with a fragile and underwhelming execution. I would steer clear, as this largely really seems like another unsupported, money grab from Google.

We're sorry to learn that your experience with your Pixel Watch has been less than ideal when it comes to the screen and battery life.Your Pixel Watch comes with a custom 3D Corning® Gorilla® Glass that should provide enough resistance against simple scratches. Frequently loosing connection with new pixel 7. The battery lasted all day from 6am to 8pm with basically no use of the watch. To small, specifically for a man. And to complete my experience! Best but charged me a 45 dollars restocking fee.

Hi Luis, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about the short battery life and connectivity issue you are experiencing with Pixel Watch. We can only imagine how frustrating this experience may have been for you.

The battery life of Pixel Watch will always depend on how you use your device, and maximum battery life is always approximate and is based on testing using pre-production hardware and software. Use of certain features will definitely decrease the battery life. A full battery for Google Pixel Watch goes all day with a charge that lasts up to 24 hours to support sleep tracking and other features. - 50 minutes of navigation (Google Maps) while connected to a phone via Bluetooth®️
      - The watch is configured with the default settings, including the Always-on display set to off.

We recommend checking the features that you use most and compare them with the numbers above. We'd also like to check further on the connectivity issue you are facing with your Pixel Watch and Pixel 7 device. Watch is great. Battery life on LTE is not very good at all. I have charger mine twice a day. Biggest issue is the bands are small. The large band is significantly smaller than the large on Fitbit. I am on the last batch and have to really pull it to get it to latch. Hopefully they will put out an adult size band soon.

Screen is too small for precise touch (like when typing or choosing an on screen option) takes several tries before you can get it right. And for the price the watch should be able to use the oxygen sensor (it's disabled for some reason) Very slow when downloading or updating apps/software. Just an expensive Fitbit.

Hi there, ChristopherB. We appreciate your insights on the new Pixel Watch. You can actually receive text messages and calls with the Pixel Watch 4G LTE + Bluetooth/Wi-Fi variant. You'll need to own an Android phone that runs 8.0+ to pair your Google Pixel Watch. Once you have paired your phone and activated the 4G LTE option with a compatible carrier, you can receive texts and calls, play music, and use Google Pay, Google Assistant, and more without your phone. You can read more about it here on this help page: https://support.google.com/googlepixelwatch/answer/12674814
