I wasted two days of my life trying to get the chromecast to connect with my router. Finally a guy from Google told me it was not compatible with my router so I returned it.

Purchased ours clearanced as it was refurbished & we would never do this again! Although the Chromecast works, the item itself ends up getting so overheated that we should have taken it back the second we realized this...problem was, even w/our 45 day return, we didn't realize this till the 51st day & decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Instead now we just plug in when wanting to use this...too many others out there that seem better, so certainly wouldn't bother purchasing this one again.

I bought this thinking it was like a amazon fire stick or a Roku but it's not. This is to mainly cast your chrome browser from your PC to your TV. Not what I was looking for so I had to return it.

I have been unable to get decent performance out of my Chromecast. I have had constant connection issues since the day I opened the package. If I had been smart enough to save the packaging, I would return this in a second.

    Great Device. Not the best.

This device has some great features. It's fairly cheap, is responsive, and is highly unobtrusive. For android users the seamlessness is great and takes a dumb tv and instantly makes it a superior smart tv. The fact that there is no remote means you don't have another remote cluttering the area. But also requires you to have a phone, tablet, or pc to make any use out of it. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is similarly priced to the roku stick, and I find roku to be superior. Far more content, with a better interface and similar performance.

Android "casting" device for "dumb" tvs

I tried the "Firestick" first (as well as a standalone android based box, which I could never figure out, expected to be 'preprogrammed", again, really just a 'streaming/casting' device-returned immediately), I returned the "Firestick" because, like their "Fire" tablets, it needs to be directly linked to your REAL Amazon account, and you're limited to Amazon offerings. As fantastic as the devices perform, I don't like the idea of it being seamlessly tied into REAL charge accounts nor limited offerings. Most "Smart" tvs now have apps built in that allow you to easily cast anything from your tablet, phone or pc to them, BUT, if you have a "dumb" tv like I do, well, this provides the connection. The only problem is that the little unit itself requires a USB and serial port on the tv (not good for a 'gaming' setup with limited ports), and, it overheats, stops responding. It's somewhat cool with a large group of people to play perhaps a trivia game through the connection (think of establishments offering games via remote input devices-kinda cool), but for 2 or 3 people, well, easier to just pass the tablet back and forth. You can also send your youtube music (or other media) playlists to the device, or stream music, so if you have a great sound system on your TV (I don't, personally), that could be a cool feature to consider as well. Most mainstream channels DO now offer the capability to stream selected episodes, in their entirety, via the internet. Granted, NOT likely recent episodes, but enough to suffice non-avid series watchers. Also, I HIGHLY recommend "Pluto.tv" (streaming provider, even offers HD and a LOT of "mainstream/cable exclusive" programming, Crackle. Both of these 'apps' are available via Google Play, have great program guides and programming options. This isn't going to give you instant access to free cable, only a means to "cast" your content from your tablet or smart device to your "dumb" tv. For those of us without "smart" tv's that can already do that, it works.

Never a problem connecting my device

I have had a Roku, Chromecast, and a Microsoft Display Adapter. My favorite device, hands down, is the Chromecast. It always works, I never have trouble connecting, and I can cast anything that I can see on my screen to my television, always. Ever since I updated the operating systems on my phone and tablet, I rarely successfully connect using the Microsoft Display Adapter. And the Chromecast is much cheaper than either of the other two devices, so what else can you ask for?

    Cut cable

Because of this cheap little device, I was able to get rid of my cable TV subscription. We never thought we could live without cable but it's so easy to 'cast' (stream) from the Google Chromecast that our adjustment to no TV has been painless. It feels great saving almost $100 every month from our cable bill too. We just 'cast' from either our cell phone (TV station app, YouTube, etc.) or from Google Chrome internet browser from laptop.

I have a Chromecast in the living room and it is the preferred method for streaming Netflix because I don't have smart tvs. This was on sale for a great price so couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a second for the bedroom. I was a bit Leary because it's refurbished, but so far no issues with functionality or quality. Very happy with the purchase.

This is a great way to stream anything from your cell phone using the Cast button (search for apps that allow you to Cast) or from your Chrome enabled browser. Just hit that Cast button.

    And the point is?

This seemed like a great idea for my parents, and it is, but they wound up buying a Roku instead. The reality is that most TVs either come with apps already on them or people have consoles. When they don't have these, they want something they can use a remote with. You have to use your tablet or phone as a remote for this which is a poor idea for the older generation just moving away from cable. This might be a good device for younger people, but most people don't want to have to rely on another expensive piece of equipment to be their remote.
