Great streaming device

But it was in the original box with all components. So without the label, I could not tell that this is refurbished one or not. Connected to my large size TV in the living room, and I could watch the streaming internet program. Love this. I do not know what the new chromecast would have as new features, but this one is quite sufficient for the most streaming watch.

Worked well enough that I purchased a second for the guest bedroom. A dedicated remote would be so much nicer but for the sale price, hard to turn down even if you have to keep your phone connected to a charger while using.

I don't even understand why I would buy the new one if I can keep finding these little beauties on sale. Don't let the refurbished label scare you. This thing came to me still in the box with plastic wrap still on it. I wonder if its even refurbished at all. Same functionality at a cheaper price? No brainer.

Has Potential, But A Long Way To Go

First, the interface does not allow you to drill down genre, leaving you to scan through too many program offerings (or listings). Secondly, the device itself seems to lose its selected viewing, and go back to a default program. This means you have to re-select, and start viewing all over again. Still though, for the $35 or so ($20 on sale), it is a worthwhile investment and gives us another avenue to online viewing.

- A:Answer There is not a monthly fee for the chromecast itself as it is designed to just play whatever media you pull up on your phone or tablet on your tv. However, many of the popular media apps on your phone (netflix,hulu,etc.) that support chromecast capabilities do have their own monthly fees for their services.

Q: QuestionWorks with Amazon Prime?Wondering if this apply's for Amazon Prime movies and more? And I assume Chromecast only works with places your paying monthly subscriptions for example like the Hulu and Netflix ?

- A:Answer Yes, works with Amazon, no, don't need monthly subscription services like Roku or stuff like that. It's simply a 'casting" device-as in anything you can view on your tablet/smartphone, you can send to your tv with this plugged in. (note: if you have a 'smart' tv, this capability is probably already built in, you just need to 'connect/pair" the devices. This isn't a direct connection TO service providers (such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon), nor can you record or anything else. it simply allows you to view content from your tablet or smartphone on a tv this is connected to. Think of it this way; it's really just a wireless way to turn your tv into a large monitor for your smart device (tablet/laptop/smartphone). Also, most major channels are now offering their channels independently (going with the public sick of rising cable costs) and stream a LOT of their shows directly.

Q: QuestionWill it work with mobile data instead of internet?I do not have access to internet where I live, but I have an unlimited data plan on my phone (android). I also do not have mobile hotspot. However, I have a modem and a wifi router (again no internet). Will chromcast work for me? I will I be able to watch netflix or youtube on my phone, and mirror it to my TV?

- A:Answer I don't understand exactly what you're asking. How do you not have hotspot but you are using data for internet? If you are using your phone to give internet to other devices, this is hotspot. If you are using the mobile data on your phone to run applications on your phone, this is not hotspot. Is this what you mean? You cannot plug chromecast into your phone. Chromecast plugs in via HDMI connection. Cell phones don't support this capability. You need access to wifi or hotspot, and a TV with HDMI input to use Chromecast.
