Due to the distribution of my house I had my router located in one of the corner rooms. Getting my internet on the opposite site was a pain, with frequent buffing. With this WiFi mesh system I have the 3 pods distributed through the house, now I really get to see the speed I'm paying for. I like that it will automatically shift between the bands and pods to the least congested. Also I can see all devices connected, prioritize the streaming and even pause the internet for certain devices or entirely. You can even identify a kids device to block content. I see my speed, if any of the pods is to far, etc. Great simple app. De only cons is that each of the pods only have one ethernet port to plug an additional devices. So the one connected to the modem will only have one additional spot for a device, making you buy a switch if you need more than that. Due price could be a set back, but you may be paying for more internet than you may need, so this will let you know and probably you can scale back.

I have mixed feelings on this product. Upon opening the box, I was impressed with the packaging layout. There were no instructions except for a single square card. "Plug in" pretty much. It's not rocket science, but a little pamphlet about the features available would have been nice. The first unit paired up with my wifi network and the BT on my phone; however, it would not connect to the network and establish itself as a new SSID (which is what you SHOULD do - make this SSID different than your router SSID for the main purpose of helping your devices not have as high a battery drain and also so it won't confuse the devices using the network - it happens with identical SSIDs). So I skipped that unit and tried another unit. That one passed and became my primary. I then used the app to connect the 2nd unit, and then I tried to connect the original faulty unit as another wireless access point. The app crashed every single time I tried to add. It's strange that this did not happen when I hooked up the 1st two devices. I used a different phone and was able to get the 3rd one online. So my network was up and working. I found that my 5GHz devices were only connecting at the 2.4GHz frequencies. When running a speed test, they were only getting about 70% of the allotted bandwidth available. I called tech support about this, and they said that was normal... and that it would switch to 5GHz when necessary. Seems to me that if you're running a SPEED test, it would allow the fastest tunnel possible to that device. It did not. However, video-heavy apps will probably force that to a 5GHz channel when needed. You can check to see what a device's frequency is in the app. Next, my main quirk with the system is the fact that they can ALL 3 be wired at once and provide a better signal overall - since they wouldn't be getting signals from the primary (which is normally the only wired access point). However, once all 3 were connected (1 wired, 2 wireless), I connected the final 2 "child" units via ethernet, to my network. Since my house is ethernetted throughout, this was a piece of cake. Everything stayed online. Everything seemed to be working. THEN, the next morning, I leave for work and about 10 hours after installation, my AT&T U-Verse service (TV and internet) start acting flaky. TVs are pixelating, and the internet is showing little to no response. I checked one of the "child" devices, and it had turned RED. The primary and other child looked ok. Keep in mind that all 3 are wired right now. I immediately unplugged all 3 devices, reset the entire U-Verse network (TV's, everything is on ethernet, not COAX), and all was fixed. The Google WiFi system somehow screwed everything up with one failed unit, and I'm not sure why. Since then I hooked up the single primary unit, and made the child units wireless for now - since then, I have not had any issues. However, I'd like to wire them back up in order to get full bandwidth from each point rather than feeding both children through the primary. One great thing about these little units is that you can control the brightness of the white light in the middle of each device via the app. They can be quite bright all the way to completely OFF, which in my case was great because it sits in a dimly-lit basement "man-cave" next to the TV where you don't really want a lot of glare or bright light while watching movies, etc. So that's a great feature. Each light on each device can be individually set. Speed levels seemed to be great when all 3 were wired (before the chaos), and with only the primary wired, they are about 10% slower due to the distance between the children and the primary. The "red" unit came back up as white when everything was plugged back in, so I'm not sure what caused it to go into that state. Google support was unable to determine what caused that as well. If it happens again after wiring all 3 to ethernet, I will be forced to go wireless with the children. One other great feature that I have not utilized yet is the additional ethernet extender port on the bottom of each unit. If you need a wired ethernet connection, there is a port you can use to hook something up via ethernet even though the unit itself is wireless to that point. That's a great feature but I have not had the need to use it since all of my locations have ethernet already. Having said all this, I would likely buy again, but just be aware of possible issues if you decide to hardwire each unit due to the size of the house and trying to cover more space.

My house is an older 2300sq foot two floor home in the city meaning that its a long rectangular layout and that the walls are much thicker compared to new homes. I was using an asus ac-3100 as my main router which is located in the back corner of the house where my main desktop is. Issue that I was having is that my living room is on the opposite side of the house through 7 walls. Now the asus router is quite fantastic for a stand alone router, but when you have multiple 4k streams of Netflix happening at the same time as well as multiple smartphones/tablets, laptops/wireless desktops, and other various electronics connected all at once a single high powered router just can't cut it. Btw I was also using my previous asus ac-2400 router in my living room as a media bridge where I had plugged in my sony x950, Xbox one s, Chromecast ultra, ps4, and marrantz 6009 receiver. This had helped quite a bit versus using the built in wireless antennas on those devices, but I was still getting drops out of 4k quality while streaming which frustrated me. I had been researching mesh networks and decided to go with the Google wifi due to the price being awesome (got these on sale for 250...my asus ac-3100 on sale was 250)as well as the overall positive feedback. Setup was straight foward which just so you know REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE A SMARTPHONE (iOS or android), still it blew my mind that there was no option to configure these in a browser like most wireless networks. The Google Wi-Fi app kept the setup simple which is a great feature for most ppl, however as someone who has a ccna/ccnp networking certification I wish there was an option in the app for an expert mode or advanced setup so Google wouldn't force me to wait 3 minutes to reset my modem and then try to explain to me the difference between the usb-c cable and the ethernet...(o ya, they come with usb-c a.c. adapters! Thanks google!) Overall the setup took roughly 10 minutes or so and we were on our way. As a person who works with tech/networking for a living I jumped into the features in the app to see what settings I could change and I was a bit disappointed to find that it was extremely streamlined. Again I'm that niche geek person who enjoys fine tuning and super configuring my network devices(one thing I will say asus does better than any other manufacturer of routers, the firmware that asus loads is amazing and offers many advanced features). I will say if you have kids Google offers a nifty and easy to use parental control scheduler making it simple to ensure ur kids are not online when u don't want them to be. It lets you select which device u want to limit and then make a schedule of what hours you want to allow that device to work and when to deny it internet access. So each Google Wi-Fi in the 3 pack is it's own dual band ac-1200 access point, technically if u break it down there are 6 separate Wi-Fi signals that Google manages for u, these guys do what we call smart connect meaning that when u look in ur Wi-Fi list you'll only see one wifi network. Depending on how new the wireless adapter in ur phone or laptop or whatever is Google will automatically assign ur device to either 2.4ghz or 5ghz band. This means u will always be connected to the strongest signal on whatever device which is awesome. On my s8+ if I would check my wlan speed(not speedtest.net but how fast my phone can talk directly to the router) with my asus I'd be lucky to see 540mbps if I was on the 5ghz band standing close to the router. Now no matter where I am in the house I haven't seen anything below 545mbps and often I'm between 865-985mbps. Every device in the house is showing max signal pretty much all the time, btw I checked how many wireless devices I have connected...67...Never realized I had so many things. Keep in mind that is just wireless connections, I have a Cisco enterprise grade switch for wired connections with another 16 connections plugged in. I was originally going to buy the 2 pack of tri-band nether orbis and then buy another orbi to total 3 which would have cost me another 200+ dollars additional to the 250 I paid for these but honestly these handle everything brilliantly. Surprisingly well considering how many connections I have on these guys. Also the 3 pack of these are rated for 4500 sq feet, even if ur house isn't that big I'd strongly recommend these over more expensive solutions. If ur going to benchmark ur wireless networks by transferring massive files wirelessly from a nvme ssd to a raided ssd setup on a home server sure spend the extra money so you can drool over transfer speeds, but if ur a normal person who just wants it simple and wants it to work with no headaches this is the solution for you. Trust me, you won't regret this purchase. Enjoy ur multiple 4k streams, and when the kids are being turds u can open the app on ur phone and shut the internet off to their phone or laptop for a couple hours with just a few simple clicks. Sorry that the review is so long and super scattered.

Large box! It was easy to setup using the Google wifi app (make sure you download it before!). I setup the 3 points in 3 areas of my house. One on the living room (main one connected to my comcast modem), the 2nd on a main hallway that connects to my rooms and the 3rd one on the room the farthest from the main one. I get full solid bars on all my devices connected! Some pros and cons for ease TLDR: PROS: +Very sleek looking, the light can be dimmed on each point. +Easy to setup, recognized my comcast modem right away. +Each point has an ethernet port so you can connect devices to them via wire (I have my PS4 and PC on a couple of them, since the PS4's wifi sucks). +You can manage all your network and points easily with the Google wifi app, even remotely as long as you have data on your phone or tablet (can be ios or android). +You can setup family hours and turn off the internet, or limit it (in example, dinner time, kids homework time etc). CONS: -Not IPv6 capable. I have emailed Google about them enabling this, will update when they response, but being 2016 should be a standard. -Lacks some power options for power users, like setting a DMZ etc (same, I have emailed Google about this). -I wish it had a web interface, to be honest I have not explored this much, but if it may be a feature, its very hidden as there is no mention of it anywhere.

Recently I went threw an ordeal upgrading my wireless internet. I wanted to get rid of the dead spots in my house and reach in to my garage and back yard. Well this package from google did it all!! I actually purchased a linksys router with a range extender and had so many problems with it and connecting to the extender. The google system was a breeze to setup and hasn't had one hiccup within a few weeks. I have accidentally unplugged 1 or 2 of the google devices and they boost back up and connect automatically within a min, awesome! The three units included in the kit were enough to full cover my 1800sq two story house, detached garage and backyard.

First off I wanted to love this product. Without a doubt this was the easiest and strongest wireless solution I have deployed so far. Setup was accomplished by scanning a QR code on one of the mesh points, entering in a network name/password, and naming the mesh point. Adding mesh points was also very quick and easy, I had all three up and running within 15 minutes. The mesh can even be expanded beyond the 3 points provided, but for my single story home 3 were more than adequate. Google is very good at design and it shows. The product is visually appealing, the small white cylinders blend in well compared to large black boxes with antennas protruding out. The points have a status LED (white under normal operation) that can be dimmed or turned off, a nice touch. The points each have two gigabit ethernet ports and power provided by USB C using the included adapters. The ports can provide ethernet backhaul between the points and wired client access, though not required. The app has some great features such as being able to identify and group devices on your network by user, pause the internet for a device or user, run speed tests, check network health (mesh point to point), and do some advanced networking such as port forwarding. The signal and range of Google Wifi blows away my previous setup. I had strong signal and was able to achieve full download speeds(60/5 Spectrum) anywhere in my home (<2000 sq ft, see the attached images of a heat map of before and after). Hands down, Google Wifi is the best performing wireless solution I have tried in my home. One MAJOR downside (at the time of this review) is lack of bridging capability (disabling NAT for advanced users who run a router/firewall upstream). The app claims you can bridge the devices, however it is greyed out and can not be changed. I imagine Google will release an update in the future to allow this but it is not available at this time. If you don’t know what or why you would bridge network equipment (majority of homes) than this is a great solution to blanket your entire home in Wifi.

I was looking to change the wireless set up in my house, i have been looking for better coverage, looked at other wireless systems and this one stood out. Google generally makes great items so i gave this a try and I love it. I did not notice any slow downs on my internet speed i go up to 100Mbs plus download and 10Mbs plus uploads, not sure whats the most Mbs this is capable of running but one day when gigabyte speed is available in my area i will be happy to try it out. One thing i would have liked to see is some USB ports for external memory, or that it could be mounted to the wall. Pros: compact, Light is adjustable you can use as a night light, no lag on speed, automatically selects the best channel for speed Cons: No USB connection for external memory for home network, no way to mount to the wall

After having my Verizon Router fail just before the weekend, I went to Costco and picked up the fanciest Netgear router they had. What a piece of garbage. I decided to take the plunge and try the 3-pack Google WiFi. Boy am I happy I did. I'm a network guy myself, so I am so grateful for how well Google WiFi works! Setup was a snap; I was able to assign a label to each of the 40+ devices on my LAN (Fire TVs, Computers, Tablets, Phones, Smart stuff, etc) and create schedules for when certain devices (kids) will automatically go offline. I also setup rules so that I could use remote desktop to connect to my home computer from anywhere. If this fails, I can fully manage my network from anywhere since the administration is done via an app, and the data is cloud based (Thank you Google). Two drawbacks: 1. You can only manage it via the app. No web interface. I hate typing on a digital keyboard, but hey, it works really well. 2. Certain devices must not like the mesh network. I suspect that sitting between two hotspots makes them switch back and forth enough to go crazy. Every now and then my smart AC Controller will be offline. All 'smarter' devices (laptops/tablets/phones) have had zero issues though.

I don’t know where to begin! This Google WiFi Mesh system is amazing! The set up was incredibly easy! The app is amazing and user friendly! My home is 1,100 sq feet and I have 2 Wifi points set up and it’s way more than enough to cover the whole house and more. The WiFi reaches to the street in front of my house and half way to the backyard. The WiFi is crazy fast and my coverage is amazing too. I was a little hesitant about going with the google mesh system bc I heard mixed reviews (a lot more good reviews than negative) but I gave it a shot. I’m beyond happy that I did! You control everything through the app it’s great. You can see who’s on the network and how much each device is using check the WiFi points signal strength. Brighten is dim the light on the router and best part it doesn’t even look like a WiFi router. I normally don’t write long reviews but I was skeptical at first and hopefully this can help others that are too. You won’t be disappointed!

We first purchased a Orbi a few months ago and then it started to randomly drop the wireless in my whole house for a few minutes about 6 times a day, so after dealing with orbi's customer service and not being able to fix their router, we decided to buy the Google Wifi and BOY!! Am I glad we did!! The Google wifi is SUPER SUPER simple!! It only took 3 minutes to set this baby up, we only needed one Google wifi device as we only have a 1000 square foot home and it works 100 percent all over our house. We have 100 Mbps/10 Mbps upload speeds from Spectrum and it works perfectly, we have owned it for 3 weeks now and I love it!! 5 stars!! You won't be disappointed if you buy this, it's very small and it fits in with any home as it does not take up a lot of space.

This is my first experience with utilizing a Google router and a mesh network. Overall, this was one of the easiest setups I have done when it came to setting up a router. The first thing you would need to do is to download and install the Google WIFI app and it walks you through exactly what to do. There are QR codes on the bottom of the routers that you would scan when the app asks you to and it would assist you with proper setup locations within your house. Before this router, I use to have poor WIFI connection in certain locations of my home and now with having these routers set up, I have consistent speeds all over. The design of these routers are nice, one would not even suspect it to be one. It is a very slick look and I like the glow of the front light. In a way, I actually use these as night lights within the rooms. Within the app, you could actually adjust the brightness of these lights. The only downside with these routers is that the advance users do not have that much options. These seem to be designed for the simplicity and easy setup and functionality. Also, you need to sign-in to your Google account to use the routers. At any time, you can open the Google WIFI app and see what is connected, troubleshoot the network if needed, and also establish a guest network, even when you are not home. If you are looking for a reliable network, that gives you amazing WIFI service strength, easy setup and use, then Google WIFI is one that you should possibly consider. This is a good choice for a home network, but if you are a business owner, it really doesn't provide you with tools if you want to track network usage.

I recently converted from a dual band wifi router with tri-stream technology to the new Google Wifi system in an attempt to expand our wifi access throughout the house. For reference, our house a single story, 4br, 2200 sq ft. but we are moving to a two story, 3400 sq ft house and needed the extra wifi range. With our last router we were able to get high speed dual band wifi in most of our single story house without any wifi extenders. After the relatively simple installation with only having to reset everything once to get it to set up correctly, the Google Wifi uses any one of the "round pods", as I now refer to them, as your main hardlined modem access point. With the three pack, you can place the other two pods anywhere throughout your house/area that the main pod can reach which uses the main wifi signal and extends the range, similar to a wifi extender. One thing that I have noticed with Google wifi is they've seemed to perfect the wifi extension with their mesh technology allowing any of your devices (cell phones, tablets, etc.) to travel with you throughout the area with no wifi disruption. The Google Wifi app is very easy to use and has many handy features including speed testing, prioritizing internet to one area and monitoring connected devices including parental control. The pods are very unique and aesthetically appealing as most people would not notice their purpose placed throughout the house since they are not what recent wifi access points/extenders look like. Besides the lack of colors to choose from, the only downfall I have noticed thus far is the lack of Ethernet ports to hardline devices to the pods. Each pod only has one ethernet in for your modem and one out so you will have to rely heavily on the wifi signal when, in some cases, your only or better option is to have a hardline connection for internet. I would suggest using a different router set up if you need more hardline connections.

I picked up Google Wifi to increase coverage in my townhome. My existing router covered the whole house (about 1700 sq.ft), but I would have some strange issues, like connecting to my wireless multi-function printer (3rd floor) from the basement - sometimes it worked fine, other times it did not. I got the three pack because it was only $50 more than 2 individual points, and we plan to move to a larger home in the next year or so. It was very easy to set up, only taking about 15 minutes total (including changing settings in my Verizon FIOS router). I have between 20-25 devices connected at any one time, with 8 wired (6 through a switch connected to the main access point, and 2 connected to the other access points). Everything works seamlessly, and the speeds and connections are excellent. Because the coverage is so good, the devices consistently connect to the 5 GHz network. And while it sometimes seems like the system is making weird choices for connections (the aforementioned printer is always connected to the basement access point, for example), everything is running smoothly and I have not had any issues with LAN connectivity. I wired my wife's desktop to the upstairs access point and she now gets our full Internet bandwidth to her system, even though it's technically not connected to the Verizon router/modem. The access points look good compared to other routers or network devices, and I don't mind having one sitting on my entryway table, or next to my TV. I like the fact that the light can be turned off or dimmed, so it won't distract viewers in the home theater. The guest network and family controls are easy to set up and provide powerful control of the network, allowing you to turn off any device (or a group of devices for a family member). The guest network also allows you to share devices with visitors, such as smart bulbs or printers. Google's app has some good reporting, like an instant view of the network and all connected devices, with real-time stats as well as historical data (1, 7, or 30 days). Clicking on a device will show more stats, such as the IP address, connection radio (2.4 or 5 GHz), MAC address, etc. The app also has a suite of tests including internet speed tests, mesh tests, and wifi tests that show the speed of the connection to each wireless device. There is also some basic network control through the app, including port forwarding, DNS settings, and DHCP settings. It is not as robust as the Web interface of most home routers, but I find it provides what I need for my network. For example, I run a remote desktop from my main PC, and I was able to easily set up the port forwarding rule. A few wish list items: 1. It would be nice if they G the ability to enter custom date ranges and also download the data, though. 2. I would also like to be able to specify a wifi point for certain devices. I have a ring doorbell, and while it generally connects to the closest access point, if I restart that point, it gets reassigned and won't always switch back, which can cause connectivity problems. 3. Even a basic Web interface that would allow me to restart the Google access points would be good. The way it works now, if the Internet goes down, I can't control the network. All in all, this is a solid product for anyone, though more advanced users will definitely miss some of the granular control offered by other routers.

Perfect for Oddly-Shaped or Sized Houses

The Google WiFi 3-pack is the perfect solution to a house that is problematic for size or shape, providing outstanding WiFi connectivity throughout the house with incredibly easy setup. Living in a house that has had 3 additions made to it, I struggled for months to try & get a good solution to no avail. Stronger & stronger routers until I finally glowed anytime I walked past the router closet, WiFi extenders, none worked and finally reached the point of being fed up & invested in this system. While incredibly pricey versus a simple 1-piece router, it was more than worth it. I strategically placed the 3 pucks in the right places in the house and have excellent coverage inside & to a certain distance outside of the house. One puck needs to be connected to your modem with the included cable, but the other 2 pucks mesh wirelessly, you just need power. Set up is extremely easy, but an app is required (no web-based interface for setting up or programming), but this is the direction most systems are going anyway. After setup, the app gives you the ability to manually control settings for DNS, IP address for the router itself (previous versions did not have this ability from my research), port forwarding, DHCP reservations, NAT mode, and more. The app will give you the ability to do an internet speed test as well as a mesh coverage test giving you a visual on the strength of the wireless in each location. You can also enable a guest WiFi, but that turns off certain other features, so I left mine off. The WiFi password can be easily shared from the app via text or e-mail, which is helpful if you have a complex password passphrase and don't want to sit there trying to coach people typing it in manually. Family WiFI is also available on the app, giving you the ability to pause the whole WiFi or specific devices at scheduled times (dinner, homework, bedtime, etc.). Overall, this is the best WiFi I've had in 2 years in the house, and couldn't be happier with the purchase.

My internet speed went from around 80 Mbps to 250. I had a good router before but this Google Home beat the pants off it. Unbelievable. Streaming movies is blazing fast. Easy set up and I even have an app to control it on my iPhone. The best part is that a sales guy at Best Buy recommended it over the plug-in internet booster that I'd bought and was looking to replace with a different brand. He said those things aren't worth it so I paid a bit more for something that truly works. Made it so worth it to have an actual knowledgeable sales person recommend it in person -- and they don't get commission so he wasn't trying to sell me stuff for more money. He actually talked me out of getting more than I needed for more $$.

I'm not a big fan of Goggle products but this device has really changed my impression. Design is neat and dosen't need large space to be placed, top of that is very easy to set it up with no hassle. My house is one story but big enough to have some connection issue when being away few feet from my router coverage and want to be honest this issue has been gone after setting up Google Wifi in 3 pointsI. got more coverage and easy to access my network activities by simply using Google Wifi app on IOS and Android with Wifi controls. I'm so happy with this great product and can admit that Google has done it significantly more than great!

Forget what you know about routers. What if there was a way to access your wifi through an app on your phone? How about wifi that anyone can set up? This is it This is the best wifi router set up I have ever used. 1st, its so stable. I get horrible cell reception at my house and do all my call via wifi calling. I bought the 3 pack and have had ZERO issues. The hand off to other access points is so easy and the tools built in to test your mesh network and speed will blow you away. Will show you who is connect, auto update itsself, run speed test, let you choose data priority and for whatever length you want . Bottom line I cant find anything I dislike about these and they will truly blow you awaay

This has to be the easiest home network I have ever set up! Great coverage throughout the entire house and the speed is fantastic! The devices are small, look good, and the management app is very good!

The Google Wifi Ac1200 is the first Router I have tried in my 4,000+ sq foot house capable of delivering a strong and consistent Wifi signal throughout the house! This is the easiest router to set up; it is designed as "goof proof", not as a router that you can tinker with all of the settings. I achieved 225 Mbps Internet speed. This set of 3) hubs is a keeper! I have 82 WiFi devices connected, including HUE, WINK, Miele, BAS (Connected Fans), DropCams. The only difficulty I had was connecting HUE. I called Google & was connected to a clear speaking, helpful tech in under 1 minute. It just took powering the 2) HUE hubs down & powering them back up. Same with the WINK hub. Suggestion: When you have it working as you like it, leave it alone. I tried moving the 2) WiFi modules to achieve the fastest mesh WiFi speed. I moved them about 8 times. Now I lost my HUE and my WINK hub connections. It is an easy fix - just restart everything. Summary: Great Router for larger areas or use 1 device as needed. Highly recommended!

This is a great wireless product. Expanded the wifi coverage in my house without any problems at all. My house is only 2000 sq. ft. and I could have gotten away with only 2 of these, but I've got 3...so why not. I get coverage from the driveway to the backyard...it's great. Super easy to setup and configure. Missing some of the more configurable aspects of a normal router, but overall, super easy to setup and great product. Pay for 200 MB down and 20 up, Google wifi does normal testing on each of their Wifi points, average 195 MB and 20 MB up on all 3! Pricey, but as dependent as we are on wifi and the network, it's worth it.
