Customers are saying
Customers frequently mention the ease of use, excellent coverage, and straightforward setup of the Google Wifi AC1200 system. Many also praise the improved signal strength and extended range, resulting in better overall performance. While some users experienced connectivity challenges, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these concerns. A few customers noted the system's higher price point.

Had to Replace due to poor performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google Wifi is a great concept but the performance when linked to the one of the satellites drops considerably and the range is poor which kind of defeats the purpose of a mesh system. When I was next to the primary puck I would get ~300 Mbps which is in line with what I should be getting. When 5 feet away from one of the satellite pucks that has an excellent connection per the Google Wifi app I was only getting ~100 Mbps which is 1/3 what I should be getting. The issue is that the satellite was in my office where my needs demand more speed and as a result of the weak satellite it was a struggle to save/send files, especially in excel. Also, the range on these are very weak and walls will cause issues. I only got ~50 Mbps (300 Mbps Plan) when I was 2 rooms away (15-20 feet) from the satellite. One final frustrating issue I dealt with for the 2 years or so I used with these routers is the Google Wifi app. The speed test on it worked fine when I first got it and then I started to see slow speeds. Essentially my main router was showing around 200 Mbps (before I upgraded my plan to 300) which is what I should be getting but then all of the sudden to 50 Mbps. I can't tell you how much time I spent on the phone with Google and my Internet Provider because I thought my speeds were slow. Went through so much troubleshooting with Google and nothing worked, then they said it could be due to them using YouTube servers for their speed test and they would fix it. This is after a few hours on the phone. They fixed it for a week then it reverted back. I used 3rd party speed tests which were in line with what I expected, google was always wrong. The most frustrating part is that before I knew the app was garbage I spent so much time on the phone with Google and my ISP with each blaming each other. I recently bough the Orbi 2 pack mesh and it's performance blows google wifi out of the water. I would not recommend Google Wifi #1 due to performance and range and #2 because their speed test is wrong and they refused to fix it in the 2 years I owned it (google speed test issues and you will see it's not just me).

Guest Network Issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received my Google WiFi right at launch and have been working with Google support to resolve an issue with the guest network. First, let me say that the main network is excellent. High speeds and solid connection. When running a speed test on the guest network, the results are slower than the main network. Google says this is an expected result due to the way the main network is prioritized. However; despite the decent speed with the speed test, web pages fail to download on any device (computer, laptop, phone) when connected to the guest WiFi. I've exchanged 20 emails with Google support so far and they are working on a fix. I'll try to update this once I have something to share.

Not worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried to replace my Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router with Google Wifi. I thought since it was much newer, had 3 spots and had the app that it would be fine despite the bad reviews I read. I should've paid attention to the bad reviews. It cut my download speeds drastically on my PS3 and XBOX 360. I did connection tests on both: PS3: 4.3 Mbps download speed, 942.7 Mbps upload speed & XBOX 360: 1.12 Mbps download speed, 5.17 Mbps upload speed. I reconnected my old router and the PS3 went to 13.9 Mpbs download speed, 2.8 Mbps upload speed and the XBOX 360 went to 7.17 Mbps download speed and 4.40 Mbps upload speed. I researched changing DNS addresses which helped slightly but, I ultimately decided that $300 compared to the $80 I spent for 1 router that worked great for years just wasn't worth it. I couldn't stream some movies from my PC that I have no problem doing with my old router. Quite disappointed and expected more. I will be returning this product and going back to a single router system.

Great if you want zero control of your network!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You literally unbox, plug-in, and use the app to give it an SSID and a Password. That's it, you cannot configure ANYTHING else, not even a different 5 GHz SSID! This is something that should have an Apple with a bite taken out of it! Completely idiot proof! Very disappointed with Google for releasing such a product! Back to the store it went.

Very Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I live in a 500 sq foot studio apartment with a separate kitchen. Based on the sleekness in the design of the product and the ease of connectivity I thought purchasing this product would be a good idea. The device only works in large open areas, if there is a wall there is no WiFi signal as is the case with my kitchen, none of my devices connect to the WiFi network when I’m in the kitchen and it’s very annoying which makes the device not suitable for my living situation. I plan on returning it.

Worst technical support I have ever dealt with
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you just want a simple system and only utilize a couple of access points, and no local switches, then this may work for you. Beyond that, don't waste your money. The system I installed has 6 of these units. I wanted all of them to be hardwired to avoid wireless issues. With most systems, this will only improve reliability and speed. However, most and sometimes all of these Google units would not recognize them being hardwired. Plus I have a 1Ghz modem and I was only getting 20-30 Mbs even when sitting right next to one of the access points. Every time I would reset the system, it would change whether or not each unit was hardwired or not. No lie, I spent over 20 hours on phone calls with Google tech support. Every one of them had different answers. But, not one of them could figure out anything. In fact it sounded like they knew nothing about their product as they were telling me to change things that were the complete opposite of what the setup guide and app said. Save yourself from having a headache. Buy Eero!

What no one tells you
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this and had to take it back, what know one told me was you cannot connect older system{computer, printers} to it because of the tight security. If you don't have wpa2, or can't update to it, you can't get your other systems to recognize it. It was a easy system to set up, you just have to have all newer stuff.

Google Wifi is under-whelming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google Wifi feels like its 5 years behind many of its competitors. Lately Google products have become more and more.... well, blah and this product is no different. Google Wifi comes with basic Wifi options and that's it. Google Wifi is only dual-band while many of it's competitors are tri-band. It allows you to choose a priority device, but there's a catch... you can only choose one priority device and for a limited time (max of 4 hours). What does that mean for you? It means more important devices like your home security system or smart thermostat could be bumped off the Wifi network because of other competing devices. I don't know about you, but I want my home security system to be the priority device over my kids watching netflix. Bottom line... you're not going to get anything special or amazing. The product is not for users that want more options or want more configurations to their Wifi system. This is a plug and play device that makes it easy for grandma to use but doesn't serve the needs of those who know the slightest bit of tech. Bottom line is that Google Wifi has a lot of areas to improve and for a tech powerhouse, this product doesn't live up to the name.

DO NOT BUY!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They have updated the on board software so that you cannot set the router to a specific band (i.e. 2.4ghz or 5ghz). The reason this is a problem is that if you have smart home wifi devices, such as wifi controlled plugs, almost all are 2.4ghz. Some of the apps for these devices will NOT let you hook up your device if the phone that has the app is not on a 2.4ghz band. If you are like me, with a bunch of 2.4ghz which will not hook up if the phone setting it up is not a 2.4ghz, well thanks to Google and this router, you are out of luck. Those smart devices aren't even good paperweights. I have wasted hours with Google help to resolve this problem, they claim not having the ability control bands is for your own good. If you have smart home devices, or plan to get them, then buying the google wifi mesh system is going to be a waste of money.

Major Guest Network Flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product and was very happy with it until I realized that none of the devices that were connected to the Guest Network were receiving emails. I also found that connection dependability when surfing the internet from the Guest Network was poor at best. Not all sites would connect, and some would only partially download. I set up a case with Goggle Support. After three days, I was told their Engineering Staff is admitting there is an issue with the Guest Network that will require a firmware upgrade at some unknown future date. This seems like a major flaw to me that should have been discovered in any quality test program before release to the public.

Easy Setup, no advanced features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup is really easy. When it comes to advanced features there basically are none. I'm now dealing with wi-fi dropping randomly. There is a big thread on the google support forum about it, and they remain silent on it being fixed. Get something else.

Should have looked around more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the product simple to use and install. However my problem with this google WiFi is that I don’t get my full speed that I’m paying for. I can download up 60mpbs but when I had my comcast router I was downloading games at 150 mbps.

Junk - do not buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This mesh networking set does not work. You may be able to set up the first puck, but subsequent ones will not be able to be added, negating the mesh networking feature. I spent all day trying to get this to work to no avail. That included 2.5 hours on the phone with Ken from Google support. Nothing suggested worked, and even with the primary and secondary pucks being inches apart, the app stated they were too far away to be set up. Eventually Ken wanted me to restart my phone (you can’t do any setup from the web btw) and said he would call me back. Unsurprisingly, he never called and I was left to try on my own. After 10 hours of struggling with this I gave up. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. This product is not worth $10, let alone $250.

Excellent WiFi signal - poor admin control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do you want an easy plug and play device? Do you want to manage this device solely from your phone? Well this device is for you. If you want advanced controls and the ability to manage the device from your computer. This device is not for you. WiFi signal is surprisingly strong and I'm highly impressed. However I'm running into issues where 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz that it broadcasts does not exactly work as advertised. If you own a device that can only use 2.4Ghz, forget it. It won't work. Support was no help. Product is going to be returned. Overall great device for someone that is new to Wireless setups. Plug n play and go.

WiFi Calling won't work with Google WiFi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WiFi Calling will not work consistently on Sprint iPhone 7. Have spent literally hours on the phone with Google Support, as well as Support for Apple, Sprint and Cox (ISP). All symptoms pointed to Googly WiFi System. Tried dozens of troubleshooting steps with Google, they couldn't figure it out. To make things worse, I am past the return period at Best Buy and Google will not refund me under their warranty. My only option now is to discard the expensive Google WiFi System and purchase another system. What terrible support when Google cannot fix the problem and will not honor their warranty.

DOESNT CONNECT TO RING OR LIFX
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.CANNOT SELECT BETWEEN 2G and 5G AS IT DOES THIS AUTOMATICALLY FOR YOU. I AM FAIRLY TECH SAVVY AND WAS UNABLE TO GET LOFX BULBS OR RING DOORBELL TO CONNECT. GOOGLE’s SOLUTION.......WALK AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM THE HUB SO IT HAS TO SELECT 2G. KINDA IMPOSSIBLE TO CREATE A GREATER GAP BETWEEN THE MAIN HUB CONNECTED TO MY MODEM AND THE LIFX Z STRIP LIGHTS WHICH ARE FIXED TO MY KITCHEN CABINETS. DISAPPOINTED.

Haunted Google Home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system was very buggy. The experience was horrible because our smart devices would activate themselves whenever they wanted. Google Home Hubs would crank up the volume to the maximum level and play random music from Apple Music. The strange thing was that Apple Music was not connected to the Google Home App. I would never recommend another Google Mesh System.

HORRIBLE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is probably the worst product i’ve ever bought. anytime the power FLICKERS, it completely shuts down and i have to reboot the whole system. and it takes about three tries at LEAST to get it finally working. i’ve done this at least 15 times because i’ve started naming the wifi with the number of times i’ve done this. and we are at 15. so do not buy this product, i repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IT IS A PIECE OF GARBAGE. i didn’t even want to give it one star it deserves 0 stars.
