I bought this GoPro February 2024. It's an older model GoPro, but is still a very good camera. It's easy to use and produces good videos. Post production of the 4k video, you will need a strong computer it edit the footage.

The GoPro Hero9 has amazing video quality and the stabilization is phenomenal. Used one on a mountain bike trip to NC on a chest mount and couldn't be more impressed. The image stabilization was the equivalent of using a Gimbel. The microphones have greatly improved with the wind over the years as well.

I’m really enjoying this GoPro hero nine camera. I love the color display in the front, the internal stabilization, and the ease of use with the GoPro application. I completed a 6 foot drop test, result was no damage or flaw to the camera.

Is Gopro Hero 9 black worth it?

The new Gopro Hero 9 Black retails for $449.99 without their subscription and $349.98 with their subscription which is $4.99 a month (Unlimited clould storage, Camera replacement, store discounts). Gopro's latest flagship camera has some new and useful features. Out of the box, I noticed that the Hero 9 is bigger and heavier. Also, it now has a new front facing display screen. Its nice for vlogging and framing yourself in front of camera. There is delay while watching the front display while the camera is running. Maybe 4 fps? Nonetheless its still helpful. The imaging stabilization is amazing. Its very smooth and definitely no need for a gimbal. The photos I took look good but they are not great. And honestly, I don't use video cameras to take pics. I shoot and edit videos for a living. I own the Hero 2,4,6,7,8 and now the 9. But here are some what I consider pros/cons I encountered while using the Hero 9. Pros: -Larger rear display screen from previous models -Front display screen -5k video at 30 fps -Replaceable lens cover -Larger Battery capacity needed for the front display -Hypersmooth 3.0 (Boosted stabilization for all settings) -Timewarp 3.0 -In camera horizon leveling (has to be in linear view and max res is at 2.7k) -20mp sensor for photos -Schedule Captures, Timed Captures, and Hindsight -Carrying case included -Horizon Lock (With the Max Lens Mod) -Remote recording and adjusting functions via the App Cons: -The usb port is still inside the battery/sd card compartment. The door has to remain open while tethered via usb unless you get a 3rd party door replacement that doesn't block the port or Gopro Media Mod. -Same frame rate as previous Gopros. No 4k at 120 fps. -Digital noise at low light -Previous models of Gopro batteries are not compatible -Sill uses the GP1 chip processor (same as in the Hero 6,7, and 8) -Bugs (software) -Lens flares -Audio is not good without a shotgun mic -Colors are unnatural (software) One major thing that I experienced while shooting in 5k is that the camera did freeze up several times. It would be totally unresponsive while on and recording. To stop the camera, I would have to pull the battery out so it will turn off. The worst thing about this whole thing is that the footage file became corrupt and unusable. Hopefully they come out with a patch for this in a near future firmware update. This camera is terrible at low light. You have to be outdoors or have lots of lighting. Reasons why I would suggest buying this camera: -You're new to Gopro and want a rugged vlogging action camera -You're making an upgrade from the Hero 6 Reasons why I would not recommend buying the Hero 9 black: -You own the Gopro Hero 7 or Hero 8 -Cost -You don't an action camera Overall, the Gopro Hero 9 is a fun and solid action camera with lots of features.

Great Camera- Can't Wait To Learn More!

I've wanted an action camera for quite some time & have purchased a couple of cheap imitations over the years. The good news is that meant that I had a few mounts already, because none of them were actually up to the challenge of filming anything "adventurous"- they always broke quickly and/or simply didn't function well- especially when faced with snowboarding, biking, water skiing and the other things we tried to use them for. When an the opportunity to get the new GoPro Hero9 Black arose, I decided the time was right to try again. What I've learned thus far- the camera is great & I have a lot to learn as an adventure videographer! I didn't get the camera in time for a quick trip to the beach where I'd hoped to use it in the water, but I did take it on the most readily available "adventure" for me- the local mountain bike trails. I've only tested it thus far on a fixed handlebar mount (not the best option) and at various "timewarp"/time lapse settings. The image stabilization is tremendous, especially given that my first videos now clearly demonstrate that a fixed mount on the end of the handlebar is about the jerkiest place you can put something. Poor mounting option notwithstanding, the videos are fun to watch, the 4K resolution is crystal clear and my next attempt using a chest or helmet mount is most certainly going to be EPIC! As for my own personal lack of videographer experience, there's a HUGE base of knowledge & videos online to learn from. Both the basics and specifics about every detailed setting can be found as well as any level of info you may need in between. One of my next learnings will how best to extract frames from videos to save as photos- my poor attempts to upload images didn't yield any stills worthy of attaching- next time I'll take some actual stills as well since this 20MP camera makes it the highest resolution "regular" camera I have now. Now, for more adventures and learning!!

I bought it as a gift for my boyfriend and he absolutely loved it. We have a trip to Thailand plan in April so he is ecstatic to get footage on his new go pro. He also rides motorcycles so now he can take his go pro with him to film his rides! Great gift!

    Software

Great Camera, with frustrating, dated software.

The redesign for the Hero 9 addressed my biggest complaints with the Hero 8 really well. The entire thing is a little larger but everything else is a significant improvement... Except the software. GoPro seems to still think it’s 2015, not only because it keeps setting that as the date for all of my videos (even though the camera has the correct date and time zone) but because the mobile apps badly need an update. The ipad pro has been an awesome video editor for me, but anything that involves GoPro is absolutely infuriating. The GoPro and Quik apps refuse to stay in landscape mode. They work in landscape, they just will not stay there and keep going back to portrait mode. They have no ability to check for duplicate files and routinely download huge videos multiple times. Connecting to the camera wirelessly fails constantly, and yet it seems to be the only way to transfer files other than taking out the memory card and using a dongle. The camera won’t show up in files or the gopro app or quik when connected via USB and set up to transfer files. Once files are stored in the app, there’s no clear way to get them to a competent video editor that stays in landscape other than to send everything to photos, then import it to your editor. And when it comes to fixing the dates on all of the files that are messed up, GoPro’s solution is to connect it to a desktop or laptop and use the GoPro app there because the mobile apps simply don’t have that functionality. Editing on an ipad is kind of new, I suppose. But I can do it pretty seamlessly with a Sony A7iii and Sony has some of the worst mobile apps out there. The difference is that they get out of the way and let you use more competent apps. GoPro really wants you to transfer with the GoPro app and edit in Quik... but they can’t even stay in landscape mode or edit the time and date information the camera screwed up.

Best stabilization I could get for the money! If you do your research on GoPros and peoples common gripes with them, then you know what to expect. I got the enduro battery upgrade and with that my camera works pretty well in Texas heat.

Terrible software subscription that auto renews.

The camera itself is not too bad. The pictures aren't as good as my Pixel 7, but they aren't the worst pictures I've taken. Some of the accessories were useful, but most just take up space in the bag. The batteries are very difficult to charge, you have to have the battery compartment open to plug the charger in and the batteries fall out when it's open. The really bad part is the terrible software. I couldn't get it to work on multiple computers, and managing the pics without it was a pain, but what really got me was that it auto renewed my subscription without any email or warning and when I contacted them the day it hit my card they said that they couldn't cancel it or refund me. So, I have a whole year to not use their broken software. Yay.
