I would have given it 5 stars, but the fact that you even need this add on to use the camera as it should be out of the box kills me. No microphone plug, Very little wind protection from the standard mic. It's nice now that I have the options I should have had from the start, and had to give up waterproofing to do it.

A must have for those wanting to to get the most out of their GoPro 8. Very easy to install or swap out for water sports. It also makes the GoPro look sharp!!

With this case, you can improve the media connection for your GoPro. You can use the micro HMDI port (cable not included) to stream the video directly to your PC or TV. Also this looks like a protection for you camera.

I like the mod case and the ability to add attachments like the mod display and mod light. My only complaint is what a hassle it is to change the battery to the GoPro. Let's face it, they die quick and when that happens you have to detach the GoPro from anything its attached to then you have to slide the whole device out of the mod case to change the battery. Just an FYI

The GoPro Hero8 Media case adds two directional mics, making interviews and Vlogging a breeze. It also gives you external plugs allowing you to run a USB-C cable to the camera to give it unlimited power (which you will need given the abysmal battery life of the Hero8). The downside? Using the case means your GoPro isn't waterproof, so keep an eye out for moisture. It also fails to offer enhanced lens protection, which it easily could and which would have added a lot of value to this accessory.

I should have gotten this media mod when it came out. There are only two issues. One is that the attached mic doesn't have a windscreen for it and you have to take off the case anytime you want to take out the memory card. I will say one other issue is that the base price for these mods in my opinion is high. But overall this is an amazing choice for external mic options for the Hero 8.

Easy to use and the access to charging, mic and mini HDMI make it easy to hook up accessories. The sound is very good but not dramatically better. Overall if you are looking to use accessories with the GoPro and want to bump the audio up a bit a very good add on for your GoPro

The media mod is a improvement in sound quality and it has a usb type c plug for charging.
The things I don't like about it is
1. It's not waterproof
2. You have to completely remove the media mod to change the battery or the memory card.

I love the Hero 8 but it does have some issues. The media mod addresses a few of those by giving you slightly better audio and the option to add much better audio. You can also connect an external battery using this for those nice timelapse shots. The biggest downside to this though is that the camera is no longer waterproof with this connected.

I got two of these and two GoPro Hero 8's to record my fishing adventures. I previously had two 5's with the mic adapters and with the cases, cameras and mics they were so heavy they seemed like they were going to rip the mounts right off my boat windshield. These did solve that problem. I think the mics are good enough for what I used them for, even when doing a 50mph run on the water.
Now for the bad, I'm on a boat I have access to power so I plugged them in they got so hot on a 90° day that they both shut down. Since then I've been running them on batteries but the batteries only last about 2 hours so then you have to pull them off the mounts and pull the frames off which is time consuming. They need a complete redesign that doesn't require tacking them off the quick mounts to change batteries, doesn't require pulling the case off to change batteries and finally they need to figure out the heat problem when running them under power.

The microphone is a bit of an improvement over the factory microphone. The main benefit to me is being able to charge and plug in a 3rd party mic (As I have a 7 channel portable recording device i can attach) It also has the mounts for the light mod which is neat. i think it's good kit for traveling but not for extreme sports as the ports are exposed and it's less water water resistant

I use this quite a bit, but only when I know I'm not going to be near water, since it is not waterproof. I like the coldshoe mounts that it has: one on top and one on the side. Works great with my lightmod and rode videomic Pro. I also like how you can charge the GoPro using this without taking the GoPro out. A little pricy, but if that's not a big deal to you, then you will enjoy this!

Bottom line GoPro wants more money from us which is why this mod exists. Now, the mics on it are ok but for $80 you would expect better. Fortunately I bought it to use with an external mic and for the port for me to then use with an HDMI (which was removed as well from previous model). Now this is a better setup then using the external plug from the previous model that was bulky and weird. So the layout is better, just a shame the price wasn't cheaper or the mics being better.

works well for integrating an rode microphone to the camera for an even more immersive audio experience. has a mount for the light mod i assume and access to a usb c port as well as i assume hdmi out of some sort. the only problem that I encountered is that if you press the record button and expect it to auto turn on and auto record on it freaks out. the camera must be powered on first in order to begin recording this way the camera recognizes the media mod is on it i assume. some times it bugs out and wont record right away so you have to prepare the process of shutting down the camera and then powering it back on for an succesful recording which is hard with timing of key events.

This makes the GoPro have better-sounding mic. The only downfall is that it isn't water-resistant like the GoPro. So if you are going from the beach then going into the water make sure you remove the housing first.

Doing interviews with both microphones on is great, the sound pick up is perfect. The ability to connect a remote microphone that you can’t do with the GoPro8 make this a great addition to the GoPro8. Interface with the GoPro is a perfect fit. Only downfall is you have to take apart to change battery, I have added a external USB battery for longer recording or standby because the GoPro eating batteries so fast.

Great addition if you need added functionality of the other mods otherwise I wouldn't recommend this mod. No hot shoe to power the other mods - which would have justified the cost. Have to remove the cover for the battery compartment but it appears the mod has a seal to maintain the water resistance (need to research that a bit more to verify).
This is the base mod needed to attach the other two mods to the GoPro 8 and should be priced cheaper. The display mod should be the most expensive but all three mods are priced the same but deliver different value. The light should be the least costly.

The GoPro - Media Mod has been a good purchase. I like the ability to have quick and easy access to the HDMI and USB ports directly on the the back of the Mod. The built in microphone is a nice plus also. My only complaint is what you have to do to change the battery. Having to open the unit and remove the GoPro to change the battery is a bit cumbersome.
