the play on the guitar is a little less like playing an actual guitar. playing the real thing requires more than 2-3 fingers to play

    What a weird game

Rock Band will forever be my go-to party game (I have purchased way more songs than I care to admit), but I really dig what this Guitar Hero game is trying to do. Playing in front of actual crowds of actual people is unlike anything I've ever seen in a game before, and the GHTV is a really neat feature. Looking forward to playing that more and discovering bands I never knew I liked.

I am normally too lazy to write reviews, but I have to say this game was just awesome. I feel this kind of game is really needed in a world that only focus on making gun and killing in video games. Guitar Hero Live tops all other competition and previous title in my opinion. Not only the music selection is great for all kind of fans, the live stage is beautifully synced with the game play. The game not only make you feel like part of the concert, but it really share all the joy and excitement as if you are really part of the concert. Being born in the very late 70s, its just a unbelievable feeling how these games developed to be so real :)

game is very different from other past editions, but that doesnt mean its not good...the game has a steep learning curve but in a fun way ala when you first played the first gh...will take some getting use to but keeps you feeling like you are learning and still keeps fun, songs arent the greatest on disc but ghtv is nice addition...

    Guitar Hero is all-new

Longtime fans of the series will find this new, different and challenging. The new button structure seems more realistic to the real instrument and is pretty difficult to get used to. I like the Live aspect to the performances, and I really like GHTV. I've gotten lost in the songs and played for hours without even realizing it. GH Live is a must have for Guitar Hero fans.

    Surprisingly Fun

I was skeptical about Guitar Hero Live at first. At the time I was much more excited about Rock Band. However, after personally being disappointed with RB's track list, the cost and their DLC, I decided to give GHL a go. I was quite surprised on how different this game felt and looked. This game demands a interactive experience, which didn't always work for me, but was ambitious enough for me to respect the thought put into this game. What I loved the most was the variety of songs they offered, knowing that I didn't have to pay out of my pocket to play a song I wanted. Definitely try GHL if rhythm games catch your interest.

I used to play all the previous GH and Rock Band games. This game uses a different layout for the buttons, which makes playing it a new challenge.

The Rythm Game Innovation I Was Waiting For

This game is a great evolution from the original Guitar Hero formula that has become relatively stale. While Rock Band 4 doubled down on the original formula, and I still enjoy it, Guitar Hero Live offered a whole new experience and skillset to pick up. I was an expert level guitar hero and rockband player, and I had to start this game out on normal (or the equivalent of medium difficulty.) It took me about the entire story mode, 4 hours or so, to get my brain to wrap around the chord combinations, and then I started guitar hero tv on advanced (hard) and ended up about 20 hours into the game at expert on most songs. This game is fun! the Live mode is only about 4 hours and really has very little replay incentive other than a few achievements, but Guitar Hero TV is where it's at. You play on channels, very similar to classic MTV where you play to music videos. It's a blast, and I've maxed out my level on both XB1 and XB360. Here is where the problems come in. On normal mode, you rarely have to up strum/down strum for long strings of notes so I don't know if my guitar developed this problem or if it was there from the get-go as I was missing a lot of notes regardless of hardware in the beginning. Calibration seemed to be right on out of the box, and I messed with calibration quite a bit, changed batteries, restarted system and routers, re-synced and even changed the placement of the dongle from the back USB to the side USB. The strum bar worked flawlessly on the down strum but on the up strum it was very inconsistent. It would sometimes register 1, 2, even 3 presses with just one press. Sometimes it doesn't read at all. It actually makes Expert level almost unplayable if you ever want to get above 3 stars (it breaks your streaks but doesn't make you miss many notes). I was having so much fun that I just powered through and bumped the difficulty down to Advanced. However, about 4 hours into this, now my buttons aren't registering correctly and my down strum is messing up occasionally. I went through all the troubleshooting tests and had the same results. My guitar completely crapped out on me. A quick google search shows pages upon pages of this same issue. The game is great. It's the most fun I've had with a rhythm game since Rock Band 2. The peripheral is shoddy though. It feels great. Was a little squeaky out of the box but loosened up nicely. I returned it and got another and it seemed to work really well for finishing out the last few achievements and getting the million strums. My second copy of the game and guitar worked a lot better out of the box, and hasn't encountered any problems so far. I think they got the initial issues sorted out. Overall, this is my winding down game. I play it almost every night. There are some issues with the formatting, there's no practice mode, the "Live" POV single player is a little too silly to enjoy, and the online is filled mostly with "ghost" players, but all in all, This game is REALLY fun. I'm bummed we won't be getting another.

This game is unplayable on Xbox one. It requires a usb sensor that has what seems to be a 5 foot signal radius. The calibration system, whether automatic or manual, does not work. As notes reach the end of the highway, they jump causing you to miss them. The sync of the strum and the notes is way off causing you to miss half of a song. Still waiting for a patch that will never come.

This game is pure fun! The Live performances are fun and keep me on my toes because having the crowd hiss and boo makes you feel like a goof. The best mode is Guitar Hero TV. Sitting on a channel and playing fun song after fun song is addictive. Constantly earning points to up your status and coins to purchase "Plays" while competing against 9 other players only adds to fun. The new guitar setup is awesome and has a nice learning curve and challenge.

I really liked this game even at the beginning. For those that don't know, the guitar controller is 6 buttons now, 3 top 3 bottom so it takes some getting used to. But overall the game is great and the songs are really fun too. $30 off right now, you can't pass this up.

They tried new things with this game compared to previous iterations of Guitar Hero. The fret layout is now 2 rows instead of 1, and you watch live action video instead of animation. The game is still a lot of fun to play though.

    Terrible Songs, Terrible Guitar

If you're a guitar hero vet, save yourself $100 and don't buy this game. There are only a handful of good songs and a lot of songs that you will just shake your head at (Rhianna and Eminem? Really???) The new guitar button layout is frustrating if you're use to the old guitars. I've spent a few days trying to learn it but I am just as frustrated with it as I was the first day. I've reached the advanced level but it's rather difficult for me to play songs on the expert level. That is a bummer to me because I use to be decent at expert level on GH 1-3. The new Live feature is cool - I just am not sold on the controller. I understand change is necessary for life and in a business to compete, but I can't get behind this one. If you're a newcomer to Guitar Hero, then you might like it - just make sure you play it in store before you purchase it. I tried to return it, but it is the policy of BestBuy not to return opened games :( . Activision, if you're reading this, I want my money back.

    Lacking...

I've played every single Guitar Hero, grinded it out on medium difficulty until I could play expert. My wife even got into GH around the Legends of Rock time. While I understand reinventing the brand, this version is lacking heavily in my opinion. The bad is the fact that local multiplayer restricts the second player to a "guest" profile. Your friend in the room, or in this case my wife, can't sign in and have progress saved. She also can't play bass guitar because the game makes both guitarists play the exact same parts. That's one of the things that made the game fun was the teamwork and the option to play different parts and instruments. The good? While there isn't much I like about it I will say the crowd experience was kind of neat. Not enough to make me want to keep the game but it was fun for about an hour. In the end I don't think this will reinvigorate this genre. I know I'm not the only GH fan that anticipated release only to be disappointed by the things I took for granted would still be a part of the game. That was my bad.
