Not as easy as I expected...

Unless you just have a W2 form, the process was not as easy as I expected... I suggest going to a local H&R office rather than using the product unless you don't want to leave your home at all.

Purchased on a Deal of the Day as a Digital Download at a great price, but couldn't download Instead of fixing the issue and allowing me to download, they said that they have been having an issue with this software as a Digital Download, and they've been recommending that customers just take a refund instead I don't want a refund, I wanted the software at the price it was advertised for My conclusion is that you shouldn't buy Digital Downloads from Best Buy

Do not buy this download. There is no way to open or use this software after downloading. I contacted someone and was told the back office help team would contact me and send me a Key. This is not the problem! The download has no file extension and cannot be opened. I would have bought a disc, but it wasn't an option. Now I purchased a worthless piece of software, unless I can get further help from Best Buy.

TaxAct started charging more this year so I thought I'd try something new. The font in H&R Block is very small, which could lead to mistakes. The font in the help system is even smaller. It doesn't really guide you through entries and usually gives a long list of things that you need to investigate to see if they apply to you. Unless I missed them, there are no analysis reports like joint vs. separate and last year comparison, which TaxAct has. It also didn't tabulate IRA contributions to reduce tax liability, which TaxAct does. Needless to say, I paid the extra money and went back to TaxAct.

This program was not very helpful, awkward in fact. Was not as user friendly as Turbo Tax by any means and in the end, my e-submission was kicked back. Going back to Turbo Tax

I've used this software for the past several years and starting last year I bought it as a download. You are supposed to receive an activation code when you purchase the software of which last year I did not get. After 3 hours of being on the phone between HRB and BB I was finally given one. This year the same thing happened but when I called HRB I was able to quickly get one emailed within 15 minutes. I go through the process of preparing my return and elect to e-file both Fed (free) and state ($19.95 fee). I go to submit and get an error message that the activation code I have is not valid. I again enter the code and have the same issue. I once again contact HRB auto-customer service 4 more times to get a new activation code and each time it is rejected. Next day I call back and get to speak with an actual human. She gives me another code which works and states next time to wait to talk to a person and not to use the activation codes from their automated system. Everything is good and I hit send and get a message my CC payment for the state return was rejected. Confused I longed onto my credit card account and see where every time I tried to submit with the bad activation codes they provided I was charged $19.95. I currently have almost $200 of charges from HRB. I called them, the apologized and said they would credit the funds back in 3 days. 3 days! They take the money out within seconds and take 3 days to give it back. I will NEVER use their software again.

    More than Adquate

I have used the H&R Block software for many years and have developed an experienced expectation of it. A) it does not "prepare" your return. Just asks the most commonly tax questions via its "interview." Make a mistake as to entering something, it seems to hang onto it, That often entails having to pull up the actual tax form/attachment yourself to correct. Backing to the said "interview" part will not allow you to correct/remove such erroneous information. Knowing that in advance, it did not "disappoint" this year. This is required to correct before it will even efile your tax. A perpetual pain as to as to even qualifying for efiling per it. Once corrected, it is a breeze and is very solid at detecting errors. Watch for sells during tax preparation season as they offer sells well over their outrageously priced competitors.

    "With State" is misleading

Yes, you get the state forms, but you must pay an additional $19.95 to e-file your state. I should have stayed with my software from last year... (Tax Act Online). It was around $50 for both Federal and one State. H&R Block Deluxe with State turns out to be $35 + $20... So, for the same cost, I could have stayed with last few years software solution, and had it all in one place. I definitely should have read more on this before I purchased it.
