Great CD if it wasn't A7X's

Either they sold out or they are just paying respect to classic metal. Either way, they're hurting without the Rev. There's absolutely no character with the drums nor any interesting riffs. Virtually the only thing that was still A7X-ish were the solos, but even still-I don't think I even heard 1 arpeggio throughout! Catchy songs, which is why they're #1, but again, I would have liked to see someone else release this album.

There are some great songs on this, but I was hoping for more great songs. The title song is great.

Its not as good as previous albums, I LOVE every Cd they have put out. Always solid track to track. Feels a little classic rock driven, sometimes metallica-like in some songs, which is not a bad thing I suppose. overall the album is great but isnt as Unique feeling as the past. People will hate on it, as you can satisfy everyone, but if you like avenged sevenfold and also classic rock, you will dig this album. My favorite songs are Hail to the King and Requiem. PS, If anyone questions this since the review is written a week pre-release, Avenged Sevenfold streamed their CD free on iTunes until the release date.

Great album that brings back the rock in the 80's

Sure this album may not be original because you will find similarities in a handful of the songs, but to say this album sucks is ridiculous, especially if your a fan of old school metal & rock

A well written and recorded masterpiece that is the next step in the evolution of Avenged Sevenfold's sound. The Rev's creative touch is missed on this album but it permitted the band to come up with an identity that is fresh but keep the A7X sound.

Avenged Sevenold is back and they are mixing in some old school heavy metal to their great sound. While at first I was hesitant to pick up their latest album due to my indifferent opinion for their first single, I am glad that I bought it. Most of the tracks offer long term playability including Shepherd of fire, This means war, and Requiem along with others. Thanks to the bands continued devotion to rock music, I will always remain a fan.

This is definitely a throwback album to late 80s/early 90s metal. There are definitely Metallica/GnR/Megadeth influences here with Avenged's own twist. It's definitely different from their other releases, but sometimes change is a good thing! And it seems to work here.

This is A7X's best album in my opinion. The base drum makes every song sound so heavy. "Coming Home" is my favorite track on this album.

I was really looking forward to this release, being from SoCal I like to try to support talent from Cali. And it was a swing and a miss...Its evident that with the loss of the Rev, the band is missing his talent. Don't get me wrong, there are some decent riffs and solos but not enough to salvage the album. And what you're left with is M Shadows sounding somewhere between Axl Rose and Dio. I almost was tempted to try to get my $10 back from best buy, it was that "not good" of an album.
