It came with 4 of 5 bars of charge, but in spite of being plugged in, the battery drained and I couldn’t resurrect. Guessing by both the reaction of the BB staff as well as the number of ‘renewed’ units available for sale, this must be common. New unit seems fine and the sound is thunderous and well balanced.
