||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.two whole days wasted trying to make this work. Old product was much better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the HDHomeRun dual tuner for quite a few yrs, and wanted to upgrade to a quad tuner. Got this and it couldn't pick up more than a few channels, unlike the dual that still picks up 20+ channels. Not an improvement.

a piece of crap

Posted .Hi, we wanted to follow up on this, as this is a problem that should always be dealt with before buying. The number of stations you can get is always dependent upon your antenna. To see how an antenna might do in any given situation, visit tvfool.com or visit this link http://tvfool.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29
Plug in your address, and let the website tell you what kind of antenna you might need to get your channels. If you buy your HDHomeRun and the correct antenna and don't get your channels, definitely reach out to [email protected], we'll be happy to work with you to find any causes.
Finally, we are unsure what you mean by "add more services." If you are using the HDHomeRun app, we've always had the same rule, Live TV is free. DVR is $35 a years. And that's it. There are no other services we sell or add. And, of course, we work with numerous 3rd party applications like Plex, so if you don't want to use the HDHomeRun service, you can choose from all sorts of other providers.
If you are unsure of whether an HDHomeRun is right for you, we are always available to chat it out. Feel free to reach out to us.

Excellent Device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Already had their 2014 version of the HDHomeRun Extend. But I had always run into issues of wanting to record/watch more than 2 OTA Channels at the sametime. This device did it. Easy plug and play setup to now have 6 Tuners. Connected it easy with Plex DVR/Live TV.

Wow I wish I would have gotten this sooner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After cutting the cord a couple of years ago I struggled with the one or two channels that we were able to pull in over the air, but adding a new antenna in our attic (also from Best Buy) and installing the HDHomeRun, we're now getting 50 channels and the app is awesome for watching on Laptops, Tablets, Amazon Fire TV, and Chromecast. Switching channels is a breeze and fast! And I love that you can see what's playing on that channel with the online guide. It was simple to install and configure and wow, it works awesome.

Another excellent hdhomerun network tuner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hdhomerun network tuners are the only way to go if you want to capture OTA video on a computer. No internal hardware, can be accessed by multiple devices on your network, easy to scale up if using the right DVR software. This version 5, 4 tuner model works just like previous dual tuner versions on MythTV without any software updates needed. Just setup the capture card in the settings and it's working. Even with the signal being split to 4 tuners, I've had no issues with reception when compared to the dual tuner models.

One of the best TV tuners available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Firstly, I have been using SiliconDust products for a few years now. I started with the HDHomeRun Extend in 2016. It worked so well that i bought another one to use concurrently for a total of 4 tuners. My only compliant about it was....I wanted more tuners. Guess what...SiliconDust made this newest box with a total of 4 tuners. When i found out it was available, I ran out and bought it right away. I currently have it set up with one of my extend units for a total of 6 tuners. I never have to worry about having enough tuners to watch and record my shows. The unit itself is very small and doesn't take up any space. I have my HDHomeRun devices set up in my garage with an ClearStream Antenna mounted on the roof everything gets sent back by my home network. I get almost 170 channels where I live. Now a lot of them are garbage but i have about 60 channels kept on. I plan to swap out my Extend for another Connect Quarto in the near future so I can get two extra tuners. cant have enough tuners.
I would recommend this to a friendBrand response from HDHomeRun Sales & Support
Posted .Can't have enough tuners is just about the truest statement ever. Just remember, if you want you can always keep the Extend and add another Quatro, bringing your total to 10 tuners! Could be useful with Premium TV now allowing users to record cable channels with their Over The Air tuners!

New not improved
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this 4-tuner version ($99) to replace the 2-tuner connect that I have used for the past year. My set-up is a windows 8.1 PC as my Plex-pass media server, Nexus players as clients, all wired. The four tuner sounded great because I have run out of tuners while recording occasionally. I simply removed the 2-tuner version and replaced it with the Quarto with the same Ethernet/ coax connections. The 2-tuner connect pulled in all my channels without any problem. The new Quarto would give my "weak signal" errors on several channels.Even the android "channels app" wouldn't tune some of the channels. I ran the HdHomerun software several times to try to correct this without success. Since I already had a working infrastructure with a 2-tuner connect working great (never touched it after initial set-up), this new version must not be ready to launch. I did not want to return this thing, but just couldn't get it to work correctly. I have used the Cable card (Prime version) for 3 yrs prior to the 2-tuner Connect. Both of them were absolutely bulletproof, just set-up and forget it. I chose to return the Quarto and go back to my two tuner Connect instead of waiting for Silicondust to work out all the issues with firmware update. I will get another 2-tuner Connect to establish my 4-tuners that I need.

Great hardware, OK software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hardware is great and easy to configure: - Easy to set up - Does what it claims to do - Very good picture quality - Mostly foolproof (see below) Where the device is less good is in the viewing software. - No standard channel view (can only view by show) - please add a standard channel listings view! (You can get a channel view through other services, and by subscription, but they are slow, kludgy and don’t overlay the channel list over live video) - No Roku support (I get Roku does not support MPEG2 but even the model with native h.264 output lacks a Roku app.) - The software to monitor signal strength is only documented online and not easy to use. There is no obvious way to record previous readings to compare antenna change settings. Overall, like all of these solutions, the user experience to watch TV is many years behind cable/satellite providers.

Great! Consider HDHomeRun Extend (Below)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two HDHomeRun Quatro Tuners setup with a PLEX server and HDHomeRun devices are great. I have nothing NEGATIVE to say about the Quatro with one exception. As more people in the house began using PLEX for OTA programs, the older computer (PLEX Server) started to get a little slow which is completely understandable. I was considering looking into getting better computer ($800+) when I understood that the PLEX Server was getting slower because it had to transcode the MPEG2-OTA video recorded from the HDHomeRun Quatro tuner to H264 for my Rokus. I looked at the HDHomeRun Extend tuner and learned it does the transcoding to H264 in real time BEFORE sending to the PLEX Server, so shows being recorded on the PLEX Server going forward are H264 vs MPEG2. Saves 25-50% hard drive space and major reduction of PLEX Server computer processor power needed to transcode to Rokus. So GREAT device from GREAT company. My concern would be that if you love it, you might someday wish you bought HDHomeRun EXTEND instead. ONE Sidenote, people complain about glitches appearing in the broadcast after it worked great during setup. Understand with HDTV ATSC signals, that there are things that can interfere that ARE NOT THE FAULT of the HDHOMERUN devices. Most of the time, better antenna placement or sometimes better antennas will fix all these video glitches. When the products are setup correctly, you can go to a webpage of the device in your home on your network and look at the tuner status. You might have to keep hitting refresh button to update tuner, but you will see the SIGNAL STRENGTH and QUALITY continually changes. There is an app that greatly simplifies this process, but based on BestBuy Review Guidelines I don't want to mention the name. Anyway, the tuner is half the game with watching TV, good antenna setup is the other half.

Almost Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hdhomerun has a lot of potential, yet I can see it has limitations because every platform that you want to run it on does not use the same app as an interface. I have an Apple TV and apparently Silicon Dust wants me to spend $25 on an app so I can actually use the Hdhomerun to view it on my Apple TV. I also have a Roku TV set, and again I believe I would have to get the Plex Pass, which is a subscription service to allow me to watch through the Hdhomerun box. Bottom line is that Silicon Dust, the maker of a $149 dollar box should also provide software across all platforms to be able to actually use a box you just paid that much money for. Once they achieve this they will probably be a 5 star option for viewing OTA channels at home with the convenience of only one antenna. Until then, you may be better off using an individual antenna with each TV to avoid hidden costs to be able to use their equipment.

Posted .Thanks for the review and thoughts. We try very hard to make it clear which devices we support and which we do not. For a full list, see https://www.silicondust.com/live-tv/#devices If you primarily do not have devices or the software to enable more devices, an HDHomeRun device may not be a good fit for you. With that said, we are always looking to expand support, and would very much love to expand to the Apple TV and Roku platforms in the future. If we do, we'll be certain to update our list of supported devices at that time.

Silicon Dust. The name is accurate
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the HDHomeRun Quattro from Best Buy online. Connected it to my network and it was super easy to configure. I configured it on my Plex server and it ran absolutely awesome recognizing 87 digital channels in Houston which I found amazing. The device worked for 30 minutes and then lost ALL channels. Cycled power a dozen times and did the channel scan from scratch. The channel scan now takes about 3 seconds and ZERO channels were found. Called user support at Silicon Dust and it's a recording. Sent two emails to their support over two days and not even an acknowledgement. A TV hooked to the same antenna receives all the aforementioned channels with no issues. I plan to return mine to Best Buy tomorrow. Silicon dust is what I believe is in my HDHomeRun. I would not buy this product.

Is mine defective or this product just not ready?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The newer four tuner Quatro came out and my two tuner Connect was still returnable so I sent the Connect back and replaced it with a Quatro. Boy am I sorry! The Connect had absolutely no tuning issues in my configuration for the 3+ weeks I had it. I was pleased the Quatro initially detected more channels but I can hardly get it to tune in anything! I get repeatedly "Unable to play channel" "No video data". Quatro struggles with the stronger stations, however, my stations are 50 to 60 miles from me and I only have a 50 mile antenna driving a 6-way passive whole house distribution system! Quatro seems to work better, if you manage to get all 4 tuners on channel and let it thermally heat up. Again, Connect had no tuning issues, nor do my 3 TV tuners presently have, with this setup. Quatro is also lacking the very useful tuner indicator LEDs featured on Connect. I have verified Quatro has the latest firmware and all my devices have the latest client software. I cannot recommend Quatro in its present state and will likely be returning it unless SiliconDust fixes something in the very near future.

Very picky with signal strength - support useless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had two of these across the last month and they do not work. I've been going back and forth with HDHomeRun support but they take days to reply and when they do reply, the information is useless. From what I've gathered, these devices are very picky about antenna configurations. I have an attic antenna with an distribution system to feed a house with about 6 televisions. They all get decent reception. My Quatro on the other hand can't tune into any channels. From what they've indicated, my signal strength is too strong.... Better off looking at their other products or a completely different brand altogether.

has major OTA flaw! SiliconDust doesn't stand behi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HDHomeRun tuners have a software/hardware flaw (who knows which as SiliconDust doesn't care enough to even attempt to resolve the issue) Began having an issue with a VHF OTA channel distorting picture/audio cutting out every few seconds. the signal was near 100%, and the TV tuners built into my TV's didn't have this issue at all. I opened a support ticket w/ silicondust. they believed the signal for channel 7 (vhf 177mhz) was just too strong for hdhomerun to handle, thus that was the cause of the distortion. silicondust asked me to remove the amp and report back on the ticket, which i did ~1 week ago, )but of course they're now ignoring the ticket) so: i removed the amp, which decreased the signal strength by 50%... same issue. i added 9db worth of attenuators, same issue. this is literally the only channel on hdhomerun that has a problem. nnone of my tv's native tuners have issues with this channel. hdhomerun hasn't responded to the ticket in a week. i've read other complaints on the forum of identical vhf issues, and in the end silicondust basically just ignores the user instead of stepping up to the plate and escalating/resolving *** for anyone else looking for a solution - buy a Hauppauge WinTV tuner! it has ZERO issues with my vhf channel 7/177mhz. none, zip. and is 100% plex compatible. this is obviously an hdhomerun hardware or software issue. for an 'engineering company' they seem to take very little interest in troubleshooting an obvious flaw. i've owned 4 of HDHomeRun devices in the past, and they've absolutely lost a customer due to how they've handled (or lack there of) my support ticket as well as many other complaints identical to mine. I hope this helps someone looking to purchase this device for OTA tuning - beware, they have issues with towers that have strong signals??? and will NOT fix the issue.

Posted .Hi, I'm Nate from SiliconDust. I thought this was an important enough issue to speak directly with the SiliconDust support team, and this issue had indeed already been escalated. The problem you are seeing does not relate to signal level or to the channel being in the VHF band. We believe this channel is experiencing an external signal distortion which the demodulator firmware is not adequately correcting for. We recently made new firmware available to log the specifics of the problem so it can be addressed. SiliconDust support should have reached out to you with firmware and instructions. We take all reported issues seriously and will work with you until it is resolved.

Doesn't work properly with Firestick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unit installs easily. Picture OK if HD channel. If older analog transmission over digital path picture not very good but that to be expected. My problem was that I have 3 TV's with firestick. When you download app onto firestick claims to have full control. Does NOT. No pause or volume control. Also when trying to set up recordings the volume on the TV goes to full blast until you leave that page. Finally support is not good. I have 4 tickets turned in to Tech Support with no replies. Returning unit to store.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendBrand response from HDHomeRun Sales & Support
Posted .On devices that come with their own remotes, the HDHomeRun app will only have as much control as the remote gives it. That likely explains the volume control issue. The pause issue is confusing. Some Fire TV Sticks do lack pause on live TV because they don't have enough RAM to support pause. But if you have a DVR running, pause should work fine. As for the full blast while setting up recording, I'm genuinely not sure. There's not a ton of audio on the recording page in the first place, so I'm not really sure what would go to full blast. As for the support issue, I'm genuinely not sure. Support goes through numerous tickets every day. If you happen to see this reply and update with one of those tickets, I could try to see what happened. Even if you ended up returning the device, I'm still curious to find out.

HDHomeRun - Connect Quatro Tuner Doesn't Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The associate in The TV area recommended this product to me saying I was just buying a DVR. I should have looked more closely. It is a device to subscribe to a DVR service with an annual fee. After trying to set it up it worked for about 15 minutes and quit. The instructions are very poor. No explanation of what your are doing or how it works. After it quit i tried the steps over and over again and non of the tuners would ever respond again. This has been a complete waste of money.
