Can say enough about this tv. Excellent picture, easy to use menu, nice sound, plenty of ports. Got this as a replacement for my Samsung that died due to power surge. Looked at other Samsungs, then saw this one for hundreds of $ less. Glad I chose this one.

I reviewed similar TV's but this one blew all of them out. HDR, inputs, price, warranty, and the most important Fantastic picture. Picture does not do it justice.

Easy to set up. Lightweight, simple instructions. Very clear picture. Was not familiar with this brand but our salesman was very confident in recommending it for our needs. Have had for about 3 1/2 weeks and we are quite pleased. Great value!

Best 4K TV with HDR for the money at this time

At $499, this Hisense 55H8C is the cheapest 4K TV with HDR (HDR 10) at this time (on HDMI ports 3 and 4 and via USB).
The TV does not produce enough backlight for true HDR according to the HDR 10 spec, but the TVs having the recommended 1000 nits of light will cost a lot more.
After calibration (rtings.com settings) and adjusting the backlight and color temp, streamed 4K HDR content (Netflix and YouTube via Chromecast Ultra and Amazon Video via Roku Premiere+) looks fantastic. The TV has a great VA panel and produces excellent blacks when viewed not at an angle. If you have wide seating and will be viewing at more than 20 degrees angle, you might want to look for a different TV with an IPS panel, as the picture on this one will look washed out.
Taking a star off due to the 4K apps on the TV not having HDR yet (waiting for a firmware update from Hisense to add this) and also because the first TV I got at Best Buy frequently had issues when controlled by the remote.
Exchanged with the same model (great no hassle exchange at Best Buy) and the second TV works as expected.
This is an excellent choice if you want to experience 4K HDR now without spending thousands until the industry gets the 4K / HDR bugs sorted out and the OLED TVs become more affordable. The 4 year warranty from Hisense is also a nice bonus.

This is a great TV, even more so when you look at the price tag!
We were looking to replace our old TV that ended up getting a crack/scratch and part of the picture was distorted, we wanted a 4K TV and were happy to find this one at a great price. It was easy to set up and get working. It's been a great TV. The only con that other people have mentioned as well is the TV does not have really great sound. I'd definitely recommend this TV & maybe a sound bar for additional sound quality.

I must disclose that this Hisense 55" TV was not the what I went into BestBuy to purchase. I originally wanted a Vizio model, but they were sold out. When I found that out, I wondered around the store and finally settled on this unit.
The major points for me were the value, the picture quality, and the WiFi connectivity. For $500, this television cannot be beaten. It's priced competitively, and I believe most consumers would take the chance on an unknown brand like I did. I have not been disappointed. Additionally, I was able to purchase a home theater system for the television because of the lower price.
The picture quality is fantastic. Before the Hisense, I was watching TV on a seven-year-old LG. It was 1080p, and at the time, had a lot of features. Well, seven years does a lot for technology! When I stream in 4k on Netflix or Amazon, it looks amazing. The depth of color and detail of the actors' faces is impressive, to say the least. This was apparent on the display model in the store as well as at home. If you are headed to BestBuy to look at models, definitely compare this televisions' picture quality to price. I believe it has the best ratio of them all. That's not to say this tv is a contender for the $5000 Sony's, Samsungs, etc. But if you're shopping at this price point, you've probably already gathered that.
Smart television is the way of the future and HiSense is well aware of that fact. There were many apps pre-loaded onto the tv like Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, YouTube, and so on. I am a cord-cutter. Having my subscription services built into the TV is excellent. I don't have to fumble around with other peripheral components. If I did, I could set them up via HDMI 2.0 and use my TV remote to control them all.
To summarize, the Hisense 55" TVs' price/quality ratio is superior to anything else I saw in the store that day. Keep up the good work Hisense! I am anxious to see what a top-tier tv will look like from you all.

The TV installed easily; it's fairly light for its size. We use it in the master bedroom. The picture is clear and vibrant. The internal speakers are acceptable for our use; we're not expecting surround sound. The remote is simple to use. A couple disappointments: 1. The viewing angle isn't great; the picture washes out when I get more that about 45 degrees to the side. 2. You can't rename the input selections (this is minor)

After a lot of research I purchased this TV during a sale. Only able to compare it to my older 60" LG plasma television, but it was a phenomenal upgrade for the price. After some tuning, colors were brighter, picture was crisp. For gaming with a PS4 pro, the picture is amazing in my opinion. I used the Theater mode vs. Game mode (which had some weird color issues) and there is no visible input lag playing games like Battlefield 1 and Rocket League. Sound is good as well, with decent bass and solid midrange. The only negative is the viewing angles, as mentioned in other reviews it doesn't look great from the side. Also, the TV supports HDR but it's difficult to test; the smart apps through the television only support 4k, and none of the PS4 pro apps support HDR at this time. I rented Horizon: Zero Dawn and while the game looks absolutely beautiful on this TV, I have nothing else to compare to so I don't know if I'm getting full HDR. For the price however, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Hi James! Thank you for your nice compliment! This TV supports HDR10 through HDMI #3 and #4. According to PlayStation Help Library, your PS4 can tell you if the TV is HDR compatible. Go to the Video Output Information screen. Go to [Settings] > [Sound and Screen] > [Video Output Settings]. Check the onscreen messaging to ensure your TV is HDR capable.

My husband and I were on the hunt for a new TV after our Samsung died. We originally looked at LGs, Sharps and Toshibas. We decided to travel to the Springfield BB to look around. A salesman had us look at the 55” Hisemse and I am so glad we did. We couldn’t really tell the difference in size between the 60” and 55” and felt comfortable with a 55” tv for our living room. The clarity is fantastic! We have had this tv now for about 2 months and every time we turn it on I am still in shock over the picture quality. We constantly get compliments on our new tv. It was the perfect purchase!

purchased this for a friend who had an old flat screen which was failing. Improved her picture from the old one she suffered with for years, and didn't cost a lot of money. She was honestly unable to tell a difference from this set and a name brand set costing 3 times more. Happy customer. Sometimes too much knowledge is just that. Objective comparison and a great warranty the great equalizer.

If you are on a smaller budget but still want 4K and lots of features, this tv is the best right now. The tv is great with my new Xbox One S. All of the 4K and HDR settings work. I also grabbed a new 4K AV receiver to complete my home theatre for well under $1000. 60hz refresh rate is a little disappointing but for the price and the other features it's hard not to give 5 stars.

This is my first 4K TV so I don't have much to compare it to, but the picture looks great. We don't have 4K programming yet either, but the tv upscales 1080p to look close to 4K. It does an even better job with blurays. Again, no 4K player or disks, but the picture is amazing. There is a little bit of blurring sometimes with fast action like sports. It doesn't really bother me, but thought I would mention it.
Some people have mentioned that the picture is bad when viewed from an angle. The angle has to be pretty extreme for the picture to be affected, and is really only a slight washing out of color that I notice.
The sound seems pretty good. There is plenty of volume from the tv by itself, but I run the sound through my surround sound and receiver.
Easy registration of the warranty through the WiFi. I've watched a few things on YouTube through the wifi on the tv and there were no problems or glitches and I only get 12mbps. Overall, great choice for an entry level 4K TV. The same size Sony is twice as much! Btw...Hisense bought out Sharp, so it is the same display as a Sharp.
I'm sure there are better tv's out there if you are willing to pay for it, but this is a really nice tv at a great price.

Yes, I'm one of those folks that wondered what on earth was I getting into even looking at a tv that didn't have a name brand. Who is Hisense? I walked in ready to buy an equivalent from LG, as I have previously bought LG mid to high range TVs with success. After getting into a conversation with the salesperson, and looking at other options he showed me the Hisense tucked high in a corner. Ironically enough this is the tv he suggested the most, due to lack of returns.
What put me over the edge on this? Easy. A 4 year warranty. Other name brands don't come close to that. Taking it home, hooking it up and watching the super bowl, Disney movies for the kids, and 4K movies has been excellent. The last piece for me was to play Xbox One S on this.
When I first connected the Xbox, I was not a happy camper. HDR wouldn't work, nor would full 4K resolution. I started googling and found some folks having the same issue. After a couple nights of figuring it out, I found a website with a firmware update for the TV. After placing this on a USB drive and installing, it's like the TV is brand new again. The Xbox fully recognized the TV, with HDR, and it's been smooth sailing since.

I was back and forth one this TV set, the Vizios, and of course my old tried and true Samsung televisions. While this TV set is a heck of a lot cheaper on price, it simply delivers an amazing picture and after upgrading my old 8 year old Samsung 52 inch set, I don't know what kept me from upgrading so many years earlier now. It's got 4 HDMI ports which is unheard of in the larger brand sets at this price and the picture is so bright and detailed that I actually turned down the backlight to 60 and it's still very bright in my living room. As for gaming it plays great with little to any noticeable lag just like my old 60hz Sammy, these sets with the normal 60hz/30hz range do the best for console gamers versus the 120hz extra hicups that are known to be an issue. As soon as you turn on the tv set and go through the menu setup, they offer you and extra long 4 year warranty. (An unheard of bonus in this field, anyone hear of the old 10 year warranty with Hyundai..?) It's sort of like that when you stand behind a product that you will offer a year guarantee for parts AND labor in home. The only gripe I could say would be the sound is a little lacking but so are most tvs with the thin panels nowadays. So far I'm very impressed with Hisense!!

I wanted to begin my forray in the world of 4K TVs but I didn't want to spend time too much money for that. But at the same time, I did not want a lousy picture quality from a cheap TV.
So, I started my search to find the right TV for me. I read through a lot of reviews on multiple sites, including the expert ones, like Rting.com. Based on real good reviews, I narrowed down my search to Hisense 55H8C. Though I was still apprehensive buying the TV, but all my apprehension went away from the time I have bought this TV.
Trust me, based on the review and minute observation under test conditions, I was really worried about the viewing angles and picture caliberation. But, when you see it in normal day-to-day life, you realize things aren't as bad. I have no issues with viewing angles. I did however followed expert settings for picture caliberation though to get the best picture quality.
Audio prowess of the TV is another things that made my buy this TV and I am not disappointed at all. It packs a lot of punch for such a slim frame.
Finally, I see a worthy competition to the stalwarts of UHD 4K TVs at a much better price point. I am very happy with my purchase and will recommend to anyone who is willing to try out brands outside of Samsung, Sony, Vizio, etc and stilll get the best picture quality that too at a lower price point.
