Hisense has come into the US TV with aggressive pricing and often budget panels that provide a good value to customers looking for an affordable low cost per inch TV that meets most of their needs. Hisense wasn’t really known for being a premium TV brand until the introduction last year of the H9F series, which is improved upon in this year’s H9G. How well does this new TV do, and does it trade off too many things for its low price compared to the competition? Let’s take a look… Unboxing this 65” class panel is pretty straightforward - it’s a huge box with the requisite styrofoam, higher density foam in front of the display, and display covers. One little thing to note, the TV comes with two side protector panels taped to the display, do not remove those until the TV is set up in its final position. There are numerous warnings in the manuals and packaging that since this TV has almost no bezel, that you need to take caution not to put too much pressure on the display panel. That is the price we pay for looks..which are very good. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean this TV looks. A sleek, cut steel bottom bezel with almost no bezel on the sides or top, and a very understated Hisense logo on the bottom make this one good looking TV that should fit in any décor. I’m very impressed with the look. Once unboxed and in position, it’s time to set it up! I wall mounted it and there are two low profile feet in the box for those who want to set it on something. Powering on the TV it starts though a series of setup steps, as an Android TV you can use an android phone to set up the TV, or enter details like wireless networking manually using the remote. The remote is pretty basic, but does have a mic that can be used with the google assistant, which is built in. Since this is an Android TV with Google assistant, you will need a Google account to really use this TV. Many people have one, but it is something to consider if you really don’t like Google or something. Once connected, the TV detects a couple of updates to the system software, once applied you are up and running! Even during setup, you can tell that this TV is probably different from many you have seen. It’s capable of incredible brightness. With a panel that is a full 1000 nits at peak, and a dense full array backlighting grid, it really is something to see if you haven’t seen a TV that can do this before. What it means is that, especially when displaying HDR and Dolby Vision content, light sources actually have luminance. The opening and ending of Toy Story 4, with its excellent lighting, is a great example of what this set and Dolby Vision can do. It’s as if the lights are actually shining in the room with you. While this might sound like it would be too bright, it really isn’t and the content pops in a way that not even a movie theater can fully duplicate. I would suggest having some kind of bias or ambient lights though if you are planning to use this TV in total darkness. It also has modes that limit the lighting range in case it is too intense. I found the picture overall to be excellent. There is minimal “dirty screen effect”, with a very uniform picture, especially in a panel in this price range. 4K HDR and Dolby Vision content really shines. The panel is clear and bright. Gaming also looks great, although some HDR games may need to be recalibrated to not be overly dark with the dynamic range the TV can handle. The TV doesn’t have the strongest upscaler for regular cable HD content, although it looks good enough, and cable TV now is so compressed that there is only so much any upscaling engine can do. You’d be hard pressed to find a competitor TV that looks this good at this price point, and to get a better one is going to cost about twice as much. Few people would be able to see the difference. While it can’t quite compete with an OLED for black level detail, it does blow them away in peak brightness, won’t burn in, and costs about a third of the price of those displays. I also didn’t notice much of an issue with light blooming around brighter light sources, again a feature of a more densely packed full array backlight. The panel in this TV is a true 120hz refresh rate capable panel, which helps with reducing lag and motion blur. It has 4 HDMI ports and optical output for connections to your gear. Sadly, this TV does not feature any HDMI 2.1 ports, so connecting it to a gaming console that can do 120hz isn’t an option. It also doesn’t support variable refresh rates or automatic low latency modes. That said, gaming modes did seem to have low input lag and it performs well for 4K and 4K HDR gaming off of an Xbox One X. One note, to get the Xbox to enable HDR gaming, the picture menu has to be configured for enhanced HDMI 2.0 Format instead of standard. I found the motion enhancement modes to work about as well as expected – meaning I ended up turning them off. The oddly irregular motion issues where content seems to switch from native frame rates to the enhanced interpolated ones are sometimes noticeable, and one member of my household gets almost motion sick with ultra high frame rates, so we turn it off. It can be tuned and adjusted though if it’s something you would like to use. The HDMI settings for HDR input, motion controls, and modes are all pretty much trial and error because inexplicably there is no full user manual out for this TV yet. All that seems to be available is the quick start guide. It’s really challenging to know what to find or what some of the settings mean when there isn’t a manual published on Hisense’s support site, even though it is referenced in the quick start guide. I can’t knock the TV set for this, but Hisense needs to get a manual out ASAP for this TV. The TV speakers are passable. They were a little buzzy with an odd resonance sound for the default sounds the TV makes when going through the menus, which wasn’t great. A sound bar or home theater setup is recommended as always for a better sound experience. The Android OS is decent for a Smart TV. It at least has a complete app and operating system ecosystem behind it, so it will be updated frequently and be current for a long time, helping to future proof the set. Having far field voice control and the Google Assistant is handy, especially for turning off the set when it’s left on accidentally. There is also a physical switch to turn off the microphones if this is a feature you don’t want active, which will help those with privacy concerns. Overall, for the money, this TV is amazing. It’s sure to wow your friends (when they can come back to your house) and most people wouldn’t be able to tell this set from one costing two or three times as much. It’s feature packed (although the core gamer crowd might want some of the latest HDMI features) and is an excellent value. I’d recommend it for anyone wanting a very capable TV at a price that is hard to believe.

Tv was great for 2 years. Tv started turning off minutes after loading Home Screen. Stared to look into it and founds multiple customers with the same issue. Hisense will not help with issue since warranty is only for one year.

I bought this Hisense TV but it was delivered damaged so it had to be returned. As if this is not bad enough, the Store could not deliver another since they dont have any! So I had to upgrade to a more expensive model. UGH...!

I’ve had this tv for about two months now. I was really happy with the set and with no problems. But a few weeks ago I noticed that the panel started having ghosting. Anything dark that moves fast has a trailing image. Especially when watching anything HDR or Dolby vision with a dark scenes. Playing video games is just as bad if not worse. Ghost of Tsushima and Resident evil 3 just did not look good on this tv as they have a lot of dark scenes. Maybe I just got a bad panel but a lot of other people have also experienced the same issue. I hope Hisense can release an update to fix this issue but as of right now there is no fix.

TV was shipped by BestBuy yesterday. Setup was easy. Picture quality and Audio are excellent. Let is run for couple of hours yesterday, just beautiful. Turned it on today afternoon and the entire screen flickers all the time. Very noticeable on dark and white screens. I have not changed any settings or connected any external devices. Tried on/off, unplug, etc. and not resolved. Called Hisense support, very nice experience. Have a technician coming out later this week to take a look. Will decide whether to return and buy something else after the technician has looked at it. Very inconvenient and disappointing.

Is this replacing my LG OLED TV? Read on...

I've been quite spoiled when it comes to TVs, so I'm going to do my very best not to show any bias towards or against this Hisense H9G Quantum Dot ULED Premium 4K TV, boy that's a mouthful! The reason I am stating this early on is due to the fact that one of the TVs I own in my household and is being /replaced/ as my main living room unit is a 55" LG OLED 55EF9500 that I've owned for over 4 years now. I've fallen used to the incredible picture of an OLED TV, so going bigger to 65" and switching back to LED technology, as well as going for a brand not considered "the top 3" may sound like a downgrade at first, but get ready to be quite surprised by my revelations of my experience with Hisense's flagship 4K TV for 2020. Opening the box you'll find the same materials and accessories found in any modern television nowadays: obviously the screen itself, a remote, the stand (in this case, 2 separate feet), screws, and manual/quick start guide with safety and regulatory documentation. Getting that out of the way, I gently laid the screen down on top of the box and screwed both feet on easily. Now it's ready to be stood back up, placed on top of my TV stand, plugged in to power, and turned on for the very first time. Oh, and two batteries for the remote come included of course. If you've owned an Android TV in the past (or any smart TV for that matter), you'll be expected to run initial setup of the TV and connecting it to the Internet, and in this case, logging onto your Google account. It provides easy setup for linking via your phone or PC/Mac so you don't have to waste time trying to type codes using your remote, wonderful! You'll be able to get up and running within just a few minutes regardless of whether you rock iOS or Android. My TV also required a quick firmware update to be installed, which also only took a few minutes as well. While setting up the TV, I could already tell just how brilliant the picture looks and just close it gets to my existing LG OLED unit. If you're not aware by now, Hisense uses a full-array local dimming backlight with 180 zones across the screen giving you precise lighting relative to the content you are watching in realtime. The panel supports the latest HDR standards and can go as bright as 1000 nits when using either HDR 10+ or Dolby Vision. Having a TV support both standards is not only excellent, but also important. I believe my LG OLED only supports HDR 10 and no Dolby Vision, but then again there wasn't a fight between two standards back in 2015-16. I honestly did not bother doing any sort of TV calibration for this review, because the majority of buyers are simply going to select a pre-defined picture mode that looks best... in my case, Theater Day was the best setting for my space given that I don't have much lighting come through windows that reflect off the panel. Right off the bat playing some 4K movie trailers off YouTube, I immediately started noticing some motion distortion that I had a bit of trouble with optimizing using the advanced picture settings. I personally am not that critical of seeing minor flaws in the picture, especially when it comes to a television of this price range, but this one was significant enough for me to possibly want to switch back to my OLED TV. Like I said earlier, being spoiled by that TV has made me be more aware of the flaws that LED TVs have, so it may just be my own personal observation that you most likely will never notice, BUT... for any TV afficionados out there, what are you doing buying this TV in the first place when there are better options out there in the larger price range brackets... this is a ~$1K 65-inch 4K TV we're talking about there, and it's surely a bang for your buck, but don't come expecting Sony Z9 or Samsung Q900 performance out of this television. Apart from motion, everything else about the picture is simply gorgeous and pops wonderfully... it's actually quite impressive and I definitely recommend you look at this TV in person in-store if you feel comfortable enough doing so. I am extremely impressed with how fast and smooth the operation of Android TV is on the H9G, every app I've installed and loaded has been very responsive without any issues with slowdowns or even worse, app crashing. I also like how compared to LG webOS, there are a ton of app options available at your dispense via Google's Play Store, but you also have the ability to install pretty much any app you'd like (APK) given you turn on the appropriate advanced settings and are well aware of the risks of installing apps not authorized or vetted by the Play Store, but having that extra grade of control over MY television is always a big plus in my eyes, and this is coming from someone who has been jailbreaking/rooting his devices from the beginning. My overall conclusion for the Hisense H9G is that it is astonishingly really good for the price you're paying for. 4K TVs will continue to become more affordable and feature-packed with the latest display tech without severely denting your wallet, and I also see 8K TVs be on the same boat within the next couple of years, just how it happened with 1080p TVs when 4K TVs were first being released to market. If you are looking to spend no more than 4 figures on a new 4K TV, the Hisense H9G gets my top remarks for value, affordability, picture quality, and being powered by a familiar OS with a rock-solid selection of apps and services. And to answer the question asked on my review's summary, YES... it is replacing my living room TV which will now be my master bedroom TV. I'm sure this is usually how it goes down when it comes to TV roulette in the average American household.

    A Lemon

Our tv has been a lemon. It randomly turns off frequently in the middle of watching. Certain apps will just go dark at random times. The sound will also go off and on. We have had it for less than a year and it has gotten worse over time. Separately, the Google Assistant feature is an annoyance more than a help. For example, certain commercials will run that say "Google, turn it up" which results in our heat getting turned up on our thermostat. It was very challenging to figure out how to permanently turn off the Google feature. Very disappointed. Wish we could return or get some sort of warranty protection on this very poor quality TV

We bought this a few months ago and are mostly disappointed with this television for three reasons. 1) Google Assistant randomly starts up in the middle of watching programs or even when the TV is supposed to be off. When you manually disable it using settings, it will frequently redirect you to a screen that wants you to turn it on again. This is extremely annoying. 2) The volume will increase to an extreme or decrease to the point where you can barely hear it. Also extremely annoying 3) The color scheme appears to shift at random. It is infrequent, but annoying none the less. It is time for a formal complaint.
