While there has been no shortage of indy Metroidvanias the past few years Hollow Knight stands alone among a select few that not only meet, but in most ways exceed the classic games that inspire them. Beautiful, varied environments. An intriguing world and lore that is expanded upon throughout the entire game, one new character and environment at a time. All of this would make Hollow Knight merely a great game, but it's all backed up by some of the best combat ever featured in a game of this style. It can certainly be challenging and will not be for all players, but it never feels unfair and when you do finally clear a tough boss it as incredibly rewarding.

For anyone that's a fan of the Metroid or Castlevania series, Hollow Knight is the game for you. It controls well, is full of atmosphere and has lots of content. Well worth the purchase price.

Bought and played it for the cool bug skull looking character and was blown away by the games art, characters, gameplay and story. This quickly became one of my favorites.

This is one my favorite games, of all time, The gameplay is awesome, the grind is thorough, and the feeling of accomplishment right up there with some of the best. The environment will pull you in, and challenge you. One of the best "metroidvanias" I've played.

Fun indie action platformer. Beautiful visuals. You should definitely pick this up before it’s too late and the price increases dramatically.

In the vein of metroid and castelvenia it is equal parts exploration, combat and platformer. It excels on all three fronts with amazing graphics and a superb soundtrack as icing on the cake.

Similar to Super Mario but in my opinion this is more fun. The story is interesting. It is challenging at times but still is way fun. My wife really enjoys this game as well.

Bought this a as gift didn't have any complain so must be good and not expensive at all.

This was a Christmas list wish. Grandsons had played it at a friend's house and had a great time and they wanted to own so tgey could play again and again.

A really fun and challenging metroidvania style game. The graphics are enjoyable and controls are decent. A good challenge!

Amazing metrovania title, little hard to start but once i got into it, top 10

Where do I begin? This has been one of my most played games ever. I originally tried it out expecting to hate it due to difficulty, but I quickly fell in love with the difficult but fair gameplay. Truly a masterpiece of game design, art style is impeccable, and the soundtrack will stick with you long after you’ve beaten the game. It’s rare to find a game, especially an indie game, that nails every aspect of the experience. This is worth owning physically, digitally, and on every platform you have. Only downside is you will be anxiously awaiting the sequel that was announced five years ago and still not released.

While the game can be hard, it's one of the best metroidvania games of all time. With a gorgeous art style, you'll cherish your adventure through this great game.

This game is yet another indie-developed, 2D Metroidvania, action platformer that borrows a lot of positive elements from other well established titles, but still manages to establish its own identity and offers a worthwhile experience. It borrows the level design, exploration and ability progression philosophies of the Metroid series, and combines them with the combat and risk v. reward systems of Dark Souls. The game is presented in a unique, hand drawn art style that perfectly captures the dark and mysterious nature of the world and all the characters that inhabit it. The narrative is equally mysterious and intriguing, providing a compelling and natural incentive to drive the player towards exploring the world and unlock the many secrets it has to offer. The physical edition comes with a fully printed manual, which feels like a nice throwback to classic releases from the SNES era of gaming. If collecting physical games is important to you then this is worth picking up, but if you don't mind digital and would prefer to save, then the digital version can be purchased for less than half the cost.
