Purchased the Google Home as a starter for my smart home. Unpacked it, and set it up in less than 5 minutes... super easy - download the app on my Android phone and follow the prompts. Linking to my Google Play Music, Chromecast, Nest Thermostats, and Pandora were easy as well.
However, that's where the utility for Google Home kind of ended. There are currently only a few things that Google Home can connect to, Google products like Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, and music services (Google Play Music, YouTube, Pandora) are the primary things. The only partners are are Samsung SmartThings, Philips Hue, and Nest (another Google product).
Given this is a brand new product (came out in November 2016), that was kind of expected - but seeing where Amazon is with Echo (Alexa), it's kind of disappointing that Google came out with a product that doesn't have a wider variety of partners. That said, I did read that in another few months, we should see a larger range of partners coming on-board, so we'll see some growth in the very near future!
There are some major pros for Google Home... primarily around voice recognition. The Google Home is amazing at recognizing voices. Saying "Ok Google" sounds kind of odd, but coming from an Android phone where I actually use the functionality already, it's not too much of a stretch. It can hear me from about 30 feet away, and recognize and process my voice even with other background noise. Finally, it does a great job with dealing with accents too - recognizing some difficult ones in some Thanksgiving tests.
Last point on administration - nearly everything can be done with the voice - however, the Google Home app is really very user friendly. Also, Google does record requests in the cloud - which is nice when checking to ensure that kids aren't abusing it :)
One last con - I did have a defective unit where the microphone did give up after a couple of days. Best Buy was awesome in letting me exchange it with no stress, and from reading online, it looks like it's an isolated issue to that specific unit.
All in all - a great first foray for Google into the space previously dominated by Amazon. Looking forward to seeing it grow and keeping up with it :)

Only had it a short time, but easy to talk to and responses quickly even to those that have not set up their voices.
I gave it 4 stars because I think the speaker is not super clear with music. I use it in my kitchen and I have always just used my Ipad for music in there, and honestly my ipad sounds more clear, although Google Home is easier to use, duh, no hands! We like the trivia for dinner time! We can keep everyone at the table by playing a trivia game with the kids while we eat, kind of a nice touch! Still trying to figure out how to get our contacts to connect, because we use Iphone, We know there is a way, it's just figuring it out! At first I wanted nothing to do with anything like this, but now, I can't wait to add on throughout the house!!

Amazed at the range this picks up my voice. Also surprised at the quality of the sound from the speaker! Already works well with my TV and Nest Thermostat. Looking forward to connecting it to some lights now!

LOVE my Google home. Everything from getting the weather, reminders, playing music and instantly adding items to my shopping list. It picks up on 3 different voices in our household and set up was a BREEZE!

Disclaimer: I have an Amazon Echo and an Amazon Echo Dot in my house. I've had them much longer than my Google Home.
Now that that is out of the way. I bought the Google Home on the urging of my 12 year old son. It does everything the Echo does. Some responses are better, some worse. It can control everything that my Echo already does. I don't have Chromecast, but I do havean Amazon Fire Stick, so Google won't control that, obviously. I also have 4 Rokus in my house, either the Echo nor the Home will control any of them, didn't expect them to. All that being said, if you have an Echo, the Home is redundant. If you don't have an Echo and you have Android devices, definitely get the Home. You won;t be disappointed!

While it can't answer every question, it is able to provide information on a variety of topics, allows you to set reminders, play music, up to the minute sports scores, etc. A good value for the money.

If you use the google eco system this is better than an Amazon echo, if you don't it's really no different, the speaker is better on the echo, this one is too boomy but overall its an awesome device.

I have bought this and the Alexa, prefer the google Home, it can play a variety of music without paying for a service. Small compact doesn’t take up much room. Sounds great for a small speaker.

Overall, I have had a very positive experience with my Google Home speaker. The setup was a bit more complicated than it needed to be as it is important to have the Speaker very close to your wifi router on your initial setup. Google has very good on-line chat to help you with any problem. The sound of the speaker is awesome and the range of the voice recognition will astound you. It was able to hear me from another room at my normal voice. A small nit is that it did not work in my hotel room on a recent trip. The reason is that if you have to go to a web page to enter a name and code (like a room number), Google Home will not work. I confirmed this with their support team. Overall, I would highly recommend it

I originally purchased this as a way to listen to some music around the house. I thought the other “Hey Google” stuff was nonsense. I have to admit I was wrong. I am not constantly asking is to do fractions and conversions while cooking, how long my commute will take, to set a timer, and just other general questions that come up.
You can ask it to play a local radio station and it uses iHeartradio to do so. (And you don’t have to download an app or anything)
The sound is excellent given the size of the device. It is nitpicking, but the treble could be a little higher.
I really am enjoying the device and ended up buying another 2 to place around the house.

I have three of these now and enjoy using them to control parts of my home. I also have the Echo. The GH is more conversational than the Echo and in follow up inquires. For example if you ask about your local weather and than say "What about New York City" you will get the weather report for NY City. and than say "what about tomorrow" you will get the report for NY City for tomorrow.
Additional features and support of other devices are being released almost daily. Sound is not bad, I mean it is not a Sonos. Speaking of Sonos, the ability to connect to multiple Chromecast audio devices if more flexible than Sonos. For example if you have 3 Chromecasts say A B and C you can combine them into multiple groups like with unique names like "Downstairs with A & B" Or "EVERYWHERE that include A B and C" you cannot do that with SONOS where a speaker can be in only one grouping at a time. So I can say "Hey Google play Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald everywhere" and all speakers, in the group EVERYWHERE will sync up and play the song. Or I could say "Hey Google play smooth jazz downstairs" and music will play on speakers A and B (in the example above). So A & B belong to two different groups. Try that on a Sonos. You also can repurpose your Computer speakers, use any powered speaker of your choice, or even something like Grace Digital that has a dock for the Chromecast Audio.
Two new features are: 1. Ability to make phone calls from the GH. 2. You can add multiple accounts to the device allowing each to have their own setup.
You could say "Hey Google call Mom" and it will call YOUR mother. If your spouse says the same thing it will call His/Her mother. It knows your voice.
So yes I highly recommend this device

Love this product! Provides answers to many questions you need everyday as well as others (weather, news, facts, etc.). I tried the Amazon Echo, and found that Google Home did so much better with answering questions. Plays music from many genres, plays trivia, etc. Sometimes, you have to learn how to word your question to get Google to understand, but once you learn these little tricks, it works great.
For example to turn down the volume, you can ask to turn it down or up, and it will turn it down or up one notch. We learned that you can also ask it to turn the volume down or up to a number range when you want to drastically change the volume.
Another example, to play the radio, it did not recognize what I wanted when I said "play 101.5 FM"; however, it did understand when I asked it to "play WRAL 101.5".
Microphone is excellent as I can talk in a very low voice across the room and it still hears me. Speaker is also very good and we use it most of the time. However, on occasion, we like to jam extremely loud, so we connected external speaker using comcast audio (works well for hearing Google Home using the speakers already in our home.
Like the sleek look and the manual volume & tap controls work great, but seldom use these as we just use our voice. Very easy to setup.
Directions show it responds to "ok google", but also will respond to "hey google".
Very cool device - my husband wanted it and I was a bit skeptical about how much we would use it, but after getting it, I absolutely love it and use it every day.
Cost wise ($129), much less cost than Amazon Echo ($179), but don't let that fool you. Google Home is a much better product than the Echo in my opinion (unless of course you need to use to order products directly from Amazon).

Usually, Google does not hit all the checkboxes when it comes to Google made hardware. But this one is an exception. This is a really good product. Awesome sound out of such a small speaker. The voice assistant, when it comes to its ability to understand different styles of speaking - in unbeatable. Unlike Siri, it can actually understand and help. Even better than Alexa on this aspect. Alexa is srill better for home control. But if you use Google products - like Google calendar, gmail, maps, search, Chromecast etc - this has a very tight integration and with the Google assistant on iPhones or Android. Overall - very impressed. I bought 3 of these already.

The google home has been a great addition to my smart home setup. At a price of $79 you get a pretty decent speaker speaker that can control your lights, thermostat, and netflix.
