Google Home Learning Curve Grows Exponentially!

Google Home is an attractive Voice Activated Virtual Assistant. It started off with modest capabilities in a competitive field. Google has been working overtime to really juice up it's capabilities! Now it recognizes your voice and will speak your calendar / day's events, separately from everyone else's calendar & daily events! Google Home just passed it's competition in a major way!
Sound quality is great & internet searching is the BEST, no surprise, thanks to the Google search engine.
Highly Recommended!

I've had a Google Home for almost a year now, and I can't imagine living my life without it. I don't own any other smart devices like a thermostat or lights, but I still use it all the time. Besides playing music, telling you the weather, or updating you on the news, the Google Assistant is extremely useful in answering your random questions (which is why I recommend the Google Home over the Amazon Echo). Funnily enough, I've gotten so used to saying "Hey Google/OK Google" I occasionally stop myself from saying it when I'm somewhere else like at work listening to music or needing a question answered while my hands are full.

I originally got the Google Home in order to control my smart items such as lights and fan. Turns out that it also accomplishes other tasks. The speaker is decent, about 15 watts, enough for a single room. The thing is pretty smart and tho at the beginning it was very limited in what it could do, today it can tell apart different user without hesitation and even make phone calls. For me, multi-user support has been the best feature, my girlfriend and I can very easily set independent reminders and actions. The thing knows each of our favorite songs and will pick them according to who is speaking. Very good product if you find the application.

I have an Amazon Echo Dot and I now have two Google Home. One is used by my teenager and the other in my Master Bedroom. The Google Home provides good sound with a nice warm and balanced midrange. It's not going to compare to your passive or active bookshelf speakers but the size is diminutive by comparison.
The voice recognition is the best in the business. I've read that Google only uses a couple of far field microphones versus 7 in the Echo. I find Google's integrations to be far smaller than the more mature Echo but the use of them is superior. There are no "skills" that need to be enabled. Once your Home supports a service you merely call that service by name. There's no need to go to the home app and enable or download anything. The Home quickly paired with my Philips Hue system and does a great job of dimming or turning the lights off or on by room.
Setup was easy and I'm thankful for the 6 months of Youtube Red which is ad free and has more music than I have years to listen to. Casting to other Google devices is quite easy and this is likely where Google will make the most inroads. There are speakers and TV that have Google Cast built in and it's as simple as saying "Hey Google cast this to my living room TV" and voila it automagically does what you request if possible.
The Voice Assistants may be the key ingredient in getting consumers to try more automation devices. My wife loves it.
Needs:
More integrations with services and accessories.
Cheaper base options. Love the metal but 40 dollars is a bit too much.
Smaller wall plug
Dot competitor for people that don't need a built in speaker in every room.
Summary:
A winner.

The "Hey Google, where is Santa" is tremendous fun. I also trained it my wife's name as "Jane the Pain" to get her goat. The calendar and reminder function is great-just ask it what is scheduled for tomorrow or next week and you get an answer. I could survive without it, but I would not have as much fun. I am trying to get it hooked up to turn off the desk lamp and the TV and will succeed eventually. The play music function is good also. The sound is surprisingly good. I am thinking of buying another for the bedroom for an alarm clock. This is the most fun a 75 year old can have without getting arrested.

This is the future, the google home outperforms the Amazon echo in every task. We have had them side by side for a year and the google home is clearly easier to use.

Less available devices, but smarter than Echo

I have had Amazon's Echo device for about a year before I received this as a early xmas gift. The device is great, equal to the Echo and a bit better in terms of sound. The echo has a greater number of devices that work with it (I found this out when one of my home smart plugs didn't work with the google home). However the google home is actually "smarter" than the echo. The questions I asked were more likely to be answered (and correctly) by the google home than the amazon echo. It's a fun device and since my phone's an android, it integrates very well. I will be switching over to this device and re-gift my echo devices.

Overall, I really love the Google Home device. The speaker on Home is better than on mini. I have both devices. Both devices are sensitive to my voice commands and can be placed inconspicuously in a room. I have got to say that when Google Home and Mini get AI and increase their usefulness further, they will be fabulous. Some uses add IFTTT to increase the number of things Google Home can do, but I have to say that I find IFTTT worthless for the most part and would not recommend it to augment Google Home. You will likely be happy with Google Home or Mini, but home is better if you are using it to stream some music.

I got Google Home before I purchased an Echo dot. Google Home has a surprisingly loud speaker with good audio quality and the ability to request any song to be played for free is one of the best and most useful features. The echo dot has a poor speaker but for the price, people should only buy an echo dot if all they care about are the responses and compatibility with smart home products. An echo will also not offer free music (unless you connected it to one of your bluetooth devices and play it off that). You'll have to pay $3.99 per month via Amazon Prime Music. Google Home offers free music for 6 months via Youtube Red and 4 months via google play music I believe. Now as you may or may not know, the echo dot and full size echo have the exact same intelligence and abilities. Having both google home and alexa, I can tell you that Google is WAY smarter. It just has so many more answers to my questions than alexa. I don't think there are any questions that alexa knows the answer to and Google doesn't. Additionally, I've had a few issues and frustrations with my echo dot. Sometimes it will stop in the middle of a response like freeze. It also sometimes completely doesn't think about a question like it should at all and gives a stupid answer. Google Home is way better than amazon echo in my opinion. If you're deciding between the full size echo and the google home, go for the google Home without a doubt. If you only want to spend $50 and thinking about the dot, I would save up for a Google Home.

My Echo died and I wanted to try something different. Best Buy had these on sale so I thought I'd give it a try.
The set up was a breeze thru the Google home app which leads you step by step. I've got this unit and 2 mini units scattered around the house. Anytime i want to know the time or temperature I just ask and it tells me.
The kitchen one is great for setting timers or measurement equivalents.
I've only had them a few days but I really like them.
This unit looks like a big air freshener and blends into the decor easily. The sound when it plays music is just ok so don't expect booming bass tones.

I own three of these guys and I have to admit they are extremely fun and useful to have. I have mine set up with multiple chromecasts and hue lights. The Google home does a great job of picking up my voice over other things such as doing dishes or the sound from the TV.
Pros:
Constantly getting better thanks to googles learning AI
Can hear me from pretty much anywhere in the room
Well integrated with other google products
Cons:
Has hard time hearing when its playing music out of its own speakers
Cost is a little high for what it is. I would recommend waiting for a sale.

I have been wanting a Google Home for a long time and now that I finally have one I couldn't be happier to have made the purchase. Google is the best helper around the house. I have toddlers and she helps me set a timer for time out so the kids understand when they are done. She also helps me to put groceries on my list when I can't find a pen, and now I don't even look for a pen I just tell Google to add it to my shopping list. The holidays are here and I have been enjoying Christmas music on Google Home's awesome speaker. The quality of this product is amazing.

I have been using this google home speaker for more than a month now and absolutely love it !!!
The speaker sound is good, the sound quality is pretty decent for listening to songs. The speaker is very responsive to voice control commands and it can answer a lot of questions and can play music even from youtube for free
There is a mute button to switch off its listening when privacy is needed
Google assistant is pretty useful with calendar appointment announcements, traffic commute, stock market updates and news
I definitely recommend this product,
