This is a very nice machine. It's very easy to set up. I use it to control my Ecobee 3 thermostat and some of my smart lights. We use it to listen to music. It has a nice sound and you can adjust the bass and treble levels. Don't expect this to replace a sound system in your house. It's good for casual listening, like when your entertaining guest. I've heard the new google max and it's much better sounding than this speaker, I'm just not ready to spend $300 for it.

A Promise - Yet to be Delivered

My son requested this for his birthday, and our whole family got involved. His input was added to this review. Within 3 minutes of unboxing Google Home was set up and in great excitement our whole family started "OK Google"ing it. We were mainly focused on asking all kinds of things which would produce good answers - like googling things, only by voice (distances, weather, etc). Worked like a charm. Then it played my music (which I totally forgot to back up on Google Music last year). The one no-excuse omission is Bluetooth Audio functionality, or at the very least an AUX jack. The main challenge we had (and have) is finding non-anecdotal use of it - we are looking at the many "smart" devices available and still don't find the one that makes a difference for us - but being a Google device, and cloud-based, we are sure we'll be getting many new additions shortly. Looking forward ...

I'm very pleased with this purchase, and I find that I use it more than I thought I might. I have it controlling nearly all my lights, and its pretty nice to walk in the door with your hands full and say "ok google turn on the lights".. or to be able to turn off all the lights at night with a couple words. I also use the weather feature a bunch, I travel and its quicker to ask google about the weather at my stops than it is to look at the weather on my phone.

If your looking for a smart home assistant to help with simple request from setting reminders, timers, find your phone, play music or even request to help control your smart home devices google is the way to go. Ive tried Alexa, Siri and they do not compare to the Google home.

Google Home is awesome. I went back and bought the lights to go with it. I looked at Amazon Alexa and Harmon/Kardon also. After speaking with the Best Buy folks, I decided on the Google product. One major factor was the search engine. Google, of course uses Google search. Amazon, uses Bing, and Harmon uses Cortana. Google seems to be a much better search engine, plus it remembers your previous questions. Very happy with this purchase.

Gave this as a gift to my girlfriend. She loves it. While her home is not all "connected" to be controlled by Google, hopefully she uses it for more than a glorified kitchen timer (that seems to be the standard joke). I got her this instead of Alexa because she doesn't shop on Amazon that often, her phone is Android, and she uses Gmail, Google Keep, and Google's Calendar. So far, so good, and she knows she has a lot to learn to get more use out of it.

We actually got this product for free when we purchased an appliance at Best Buy. I was always the person who said “I would never get a Google Home” but oh my am I thankful we did. I absolutely love the Google Home. It is fantastic for playing music and asking questions. It also reminds me to do things such as switch laundry and take dinner out of the oven. The speaker is great quality and I highly recommend this product to others!!!

    Great Smart Speaker

This is a great smart speaker. The Google capabilities make this really simple to use and you have Google powering the search queries. It handles complex, multi task commands better than an Alexa speaker. Those you have to do mostly single task commands. Still, on this Google smart speaker, the features are almost never ending. It’s great to use for my smart devices at home and have several times with smart controlled outlets. Works perfectly for those things. The speaker physically produces some okay sound, it’s far better than the puck alone, the built-in “subwoofer” is noticing like a genuine boxed woofer, but it’s passable for this compact unit. It’s produces ‘lower’ notes that work for what this is. It’s not an advanced sound system, just a single smart speaker. Overall this works great and having Google running the guys of it all is nice.

I have this setup in my living room. It is 20 feet from my kitchen, and next to my TV. I use it to set timers when I'm cooking, My friends and I ask it questions while we are watching TV, I set timers from my deck when I'm standing outside the house. We play trivia games. It really does a great job of recognizing voices even when there is other ambient noise. It is a useful and fun gadget. The new Google mini's that are $49 are probably a great buy!

The unit itself looks great and not too large for a small space. Amazing ability to hear and discern any voice with better accuracy than most people. Even works for me when I am yelling from the shower in the next room, no problem. Excels at quickly doing a voice search for references, facts, converting measurements while cooking or doing projects, controlling Nest thermostat or music, and lots of other functions! I often use it to listen to podcasts and news or NPR streams while I work at home. The only slight drawback so far is that some Google functionality such as calendar integration, messaging, and other functions are not implemented yet. I'm sure Google will update this soon however, as it's all software-based and they have some stiff competition from Amazon in this market. I would also appreciate the eventual ability to change the activation phrase, as "OK Google" or "Hey Google" is sometimes just awkward to say. Certainly not a deal-breaker. And if you're already well-acquainted with the Google software ecosystem, this would be highly recommended.

Bought this as part of a Cyber Monday special. Both the Amazon Echo and Google Home were on sale that day so the wife and I watched a bunch of comparisons on YouTube between the two devices and ultimately decided on the Google Home. We both have Android phones and use Gmail so it was a natural integration with our existing Google accounts. So far we like it but we are looking forward to Google updating it with more functionality in the near future. It was this potential for expansion that also made it seem like a better choice than the Amazon product. It comes in very handy when you are needing to know the weather or if you have a general question and like a hands free, easy way to get an answer. My wife especially likes the fact that she can ask about measurement conversions when she is cooking and her hands are not clean enough to touch her phone. If you are in the market for a smart speaker, this one does the job well. We will probably buy more devices in the future like compatible light bulbs and such so we can control those via voice as well.

I had no really good reason to buy a Google Home other than I had some Best Buy certificates ready to expire. In fact, I really bought it because I wanted a Cast-enabled speaker. The Google Assistant was quite an extraneous concern to me. Having used this for the past month, however, I have to say that it is incredibly cool. I ask Google for the weather. I ask Google to do some calculations. I even ask Google to turn on music when I don't want to mess with my phone. Regarding putting on music, my 5-year old son heard me a couple of times and figured out how to turn on the Ghostbusters theme on infinite repeat. I'm still not entirely sure if that part is cool, but I'm leaning toward cool. I didn't expect it, but the speaker is actually quite good. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but I would say that the Sonos speakers are only slightly better than Google Home. Sonos has more range and space, but Google Home is tiny and can turn itself on, too. That's more than enough for me.

Being a newbie to the smart home setup, I purchased the Amazon Echo Gen 2. After being disappointed in the sound quality I decided to give the Google Home a shot and I haven't looked back. The sound quality is excellent (keep in mind this is not meant to replace a nice bluetooth speaker). The app is easy to navigate and I love how it interacts with my Chromecast. I would highly recommend this unit over the Echo.

I picked up a Google home and 4 minis to put throughout my home and love the ease of installation (plugging it in and getting it on Wi-Fi) and the wide range of tasks they can do. I have constantly had music playing throughout my house since I hooked them up, yes on purpose. Even my 3 year old likes asking Google silly questions. I look forward to adding more tech to make my house even more of a "smart house".
