This review is only focusing on home automation. I have been a Alexa user for a few months. I owned many smart devices and I am very familiar with using voice to control them through Smartthings and the Alexa app. It took about 3 minutes to download Google Home and installed on my phone, which was a nice and easy experience. It took another 5 minutes to set up the Smartthings devices and assign them into different rooms, including hue bulbs and harmony activities. Once everything was set up, I tried the same voice command that I used for Alexa, but instead I said Ok Google, all the things worked! One downside with the app is that you can't create groups to group devices together, you can only put them into different rooms. Over time, I hope the Google Home app home automation will improve and catch up to Alexa. For now, I am keeping my Alexa.

The very cool factor aside, this has been a very nice home add on that has allowed us to start taking advantage of some home automation,and yes have a little fun at the same time. The audio quality has been great for both audio streaming and assistant playback. We have already expanded coverage from a single unit and single room, to a multi-unit, multi-room setup.

The product works just as easy as it does in the advertisement.

Easy to set up. Sound quality is excellent. The device microphone is sensitive enough that you can speak from across the room. Still trying to figure out how to leverage the device better than just asking it to play music, the news and weather.

I have been playing around with both the google home mini and the Amazon echo dot for a while. about the only thing I preferred the echo over the mini was that the echo picks up you voice better and at greater distance than the mini. probably due to the 7 mic array of the echo vs the 2 of the mini. the google mini wins in many other areas. 1. natural speech. Google has been gathering data points for years, as a result their speech recognition is excellent. you can speak very naturally with the google home, with Alexa you have to be more precise. also, google allows the creations of shortcuts, basically you can assign a short phrase for otherwise lengthy commands. good example is controlling my harmony hub. if you want to turn off you system (pressing off on remote) you would.

I impulse bought this along with the Philips hue light bulbs. I cant say im disappointed as there is a lot of cool things you can do with it, but as far as everyday usability it depends on you personally. So i can say for me it was a good purchase but i would say to really think about past the first week of buying this and whether you will actually use it daily.

Like the speaker. Would prefer a better looking design but works well
