I bought this on sale for $79 and think its a great tool to have in the house. It does anything from setting an alarm or timer to playing music to answering any question I might have. After the alarm goes off in the morning I'll ask whats on my shedule for the day and the forecast. I can get a news brief and be on my way. Its a great personal assistant.

Was able to connect the Google Home to my lights, Sonos system, garage door, sprinkler system and a whole lot more. Now it’s easy to ask Google to turn on my lights by a schedule or whenever just by voice command. Easy to find out the status of my garage door or ask Google to water a portion of my lawn and garden. Just makes thing that much more simple!

I am constantly finding great new ways to use this product. Google is always coming out with great new ideas. Love the ease and great sound quality that enables me to listen to whatever I am in the mood to hear. Helps with information, reminders and capabilities to turn on and off lights. I have not gotten to the light thing yet, but will soon. Love this product.

This is the second Google Home I am buying. I also own a Google Home Mini. This is a great product. It is cool because if you a question about something it uses Google's vast library of info to answer your questions. It also interacts with a variety of smart home products. I personally have not unlocked its full potential but new features are added every day.

I was skeptical earlier on the usefulness of this, but as we used it more and more, the Home has become a very easy and convenient "go-to" device for all of us. No longer do we have to pull out a computer or mobile device, but instead we can just address Google, and ask it a question. Very simple to use, and it creates chatter/conversation in the house too.

The Google Home device has been everything that I expected. We are a family of four and our two boys like using Google Home to get weather updates, ask questions for school, play trivia game and many other topics. I personally like using it for a music source and to stay connected with my calendar and contacts. Nice product Google!

I received the item for free with the purchase of my TV. I don't use it very much, but it's pretty neat. I gave the Google Home 5 stars because it does everything it does well. If you like to take advantage of a digital assistant (think Siri), you could appreciate using it to check and modify your schedule and things like that. If you tend to think of lots of random questions while you're watching TV or something, it can be handy to pause, ask that question and get a quick answer, then resume your show. It can be fun to use it to access your music library and use it as a speaker, but I'm more of a headphones guy. Music actually sounds pretty good on it though. If you have all the smart items, you can use it to control lights, order food and other items, add things to various lists, I think control temperature. I don't have all those smart home items, just my phone, so I can't comment as to how it performs with all that. Overall, it's cool, and can do a lot - Google did a good job on it, but I don't really find it necessary. People with a family and kids to entertain might get more use out of it.

Let me start by saying I am a huge Google fan, owning several Google devices such as Nexus, Pixel, Chromebook, Android tablets, and so many other Android phones. So, it's only natural that I want to love Google's newest smart speaker. But it falls short from my expectations. * Sound quality: just average. To me, you buy a speaker to listen to music or movies, and if the quality isn't good, then it serves no purpose. It has some bass, vocal clarity is decent, but the whole thing sounds a tad muffled, almost like it's covered in a cardboard box. - Connectivity: it's a casting device. So, you can't use it as bluetooth speaker. Since I also own Sonos speaker, I can understand why the choice not to put bluetooth connectivity, but that's just another point off. - Smart: this is definitely the strongest selling point. Kiddos have fun asking silly questions. It's nice to be able to just ask what's the weather like tomorrow when I am preparing their clothes to wear for school without having to check my phone. The mic is very good, it doesn't have too much trouble listening through my accent. :) - Apps: currently only connecting to limited smart devices such as Nest, but we own Ecobee smart thermostat, and it's not quite there yet. So, I feel like the choice of possible smart connected devices is still very limited at this early stage. I am hopeful Google will add more connected devices. At this point, I am giving it 3 out of 5 because it's not nearly there yet in terms of what and how I want this device to serve a purpose in my home.

Just got this so still testing it out, but my initial thoughts are quite positive. I bought two as I have a rather large house and they had a special deal buying two. Setup was very simple other than a little difficulty on the first one. At one point it described as not being able to complete on my smart phone 3 or 4 times before my pressing retry 3 or 4 times and it finally completed. Key point is it worked and I needed no help, just a little persistence. (Not sure why the glitch, but it ultimately worked and the second one went much more smoothly.) The guidance in the app was fantastic. Once it was all hooked up testing it's capabilities went well. Voice recognition was superb (better then with my Echo) and connecting it with my two Nest thermostats was simple as was connecting it to my Pandora account. Sound quality is good, but this is one area where the Echo beats it, but then you have to put up with the Echo's nearly twice the height footprint. All in all I like it and like having both models. If sound quality is very important, I'd suggest the Echo, but use the Google in a room where sound quality is of less importance such as a second bedroom or basement.

    Replaced Echo

Alexa couldn't seem to answer any questions so we replaced the Echo with Google Home and it does a much better job at answering questions, especially from kids. We're still exploring all of the features, but we like the morning briefing, and the ability to customize the experience for multiple individuals.

I really like the Google Home. It's pretty helpful for getting things done. Setup was fast and easy. The only tedious part was setting up smart home products like hue and nest. For me, the echo was easier and worked better for that, but Google Home, so far has answered 90% of the questions I've asked and that very good.

Alexa and Siri Needed a Friend

I already have the Amazon Echo and my iPhone and iPad have Siri yet whenever I need an answer to a real question, they never seem to know the answer and I have to go to Google.com to find the answer. Now with the Google Home sitting on the shelf next to the Amazon Echo, I ask it the real questions and use the Echo to turn on the lights and adjust the thermostat. The Google Home has limited capabilities when it comes to external devices (it's only been around for a little over a month ago) but it's capabilities will increase as time goes on. It does let me ask for a video on YouTube and it sends it via my Chromecast to my TV. The other gals don't do that (for now). It's a great device and I like it's voice better than the other two ladies.

Ive had it for a week and it is awesome. I like it over Alexa mainly because i can be more casual with my speech and it will understand me. I like the fact i can listen to music on demand without having to pull a device. Ive connected my other wemo smart decices to it using IFTTT app and it works great.

I bought this, not fully understanding what it is about. But now, less than one week after opening it for Christmas, my wife and I both really like it. In fact, we went back to Best Buy this morning to get the Home Mini for the bedroom. Easy to set up and sound quality if fine for a couple of seniors.

Nice home assistant, but a work in progress

So far I've been very happy with my Google Home, but it is still very much a work in progress. What it does, it does very well; what it doesn't do is confounding and makes you think this product was a bit rushed. Design: the Google Home feels right, well, at home on a kitchen counter or side table where it sits unobtrusively awaiting your commands and questions. I rarely notice the physical product, except when I need a bit more counter space and push it a little closer to the wall (mine is currently sitting on the kitchen counter). The white and grey color scheme of the basic unit (you can purchase different colored fabric/metal bases separately) means it blends into the background perfectly. The sloped top makes it easy to physically interact with the controls, though I've only used this interface once out of curiosity. Speaker and microphone: The speaker quality – both volume and audio reproduction – are surprisingly good, much better than I had anticipated. Google Home has become my default speaker for streaming music and podcasts, though this is owed in part to the ability to call up any artist, album, or song without having to interact with my phone. I'd rate the speaker quality as comparable to a Jambox speaker; it has great bass and is able to bring out mids much better than other Bluetooth speakers I've owned and used. The microphone, too, is quite impressive and can hear me easily from two rooms away. Setup: I've paired Google Home with several services (Spotify, Philips Hue, my calendar, etc.), and have not encountered a single issue or hiccup. You'll need to use your phone to connect these services which, considering Google Home is voice controlled, seems a little counterintuitive. Thankfully, Google offers step-by-step walkthroughs for connecting Google Home with your service of choice. This is especially helpful when setting up the "Hey Google, tell me about my day" command, which prompts Google Home to read off your appointments, the weather, and then launch into any news that you've selected to be included. there are a variety of news sources and topics from which to choose, including international sources which is much appreciated. Commands: Google Home is incredibly easy to use and is able to execute requests using a variety of voice commands. For example, saying "Hey Google, skip to the next song," "Hey Google, skip to the next track," and so forth will perform the same task. I've found that more direct commands ("Hey Google, skip to the next song") work better than informal ones ("Hey Google, can you skip to the next track?"), so there is something of a learning curve involved. Google Home also possess some contextual understanding; e.g., it's great being able to say "Hey Google, play the latest album by X artist" when you can't quite remember the name of the album. Limitations: There are some very odd limitations to Google Home that have yet to be addressed in the 2+ months since it launched. A few examples: 1) only one account per device, and only one calendar on that account. I can easily see how this would be a hassle in a multi-person, busy household. I have several calendars for my life: one shared with my wife, one for work, one for holidays, etc. Google Home can only read events from your primary calendar which means I needed to move all of my scheduled events, meetings, and appointments to one calendar. 2) You cannot add or remove events to/from your calendar. My understanding is that this has to do with security (i.e., anyone in the house could add/delete events from your calendar), but it's an annoying limitation. 3) For similar reasons, you cannot send texts from Google Home. 4) Adding items to a shopping list means adding items to a Google Keep note called "shopping list." As of now, there is no integration for Evernote or other similar services. This is probably coming, but it's a glaring omission. Overall: Google Home is a great addition to a home with other smart devices (TVs, Chromcasts, etc), as it's faster and more intuitive to simply say "Hey Google, play X video from YouTube on my TV" than it is to reach for your phone, open YouTube, find the video, then cast it to the screen. For the price, I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a device through which to control their various smart home products.

Google got it right with this very useful device. It understands most questions and commands, and gets better every day. I have paired it with some smart plugs to control lights and other things, and have been happy with it so far. The is a great start for anyone interested in creating a smart home.

Google Home: The future of Smart Assistants

Let me start off by saying this: i've been using an Amazon Echo for almost a year now. I'm used to smart assistants controlling my devices around the house, and i've seen how much they've improved over just this past year. When Google introduced their Google Home speaker, I was skeptical, thinking that they were merely capitalizing on an area that Amazon had already claimed dominance in- I felt it was too little too late. Now having owned one since its release- in my opinion, it far surpasses the Echo product line in many ways. First and foremost, it's actually a great speaker. It's replaced my favorite bluetooth speaker, the Bose Soundlink III, and is now the main device through which I consume music. There's no distortion at even the highest volume, and it has an impressively wide soundstage, everything is crisp and well pronounced. While it might not fill an entire home with sound, it's more than enough for how most people listen to music. Plus- it's SO much more than a speaker. Google has always been a top player in search and voice assistant capabilities, but the inclusion of their updated "Google Assistant" leaves competing products in the dust. "She" is far more responsive, natural sounding, and useful than any other assistant i've used- including Siri on my iPhone. Just this past week, i've used the Google Assistant- through voice on Google Home- to call me an Uber to work (because my car is broken down), find a mechanic nearby, check my schedule, edit my to-do and shopping lists, play my favorite stations on Pandora and Spotify, look up important calendar appointments, find dinner recipes, turn off or on my lights, keep me up-to-date with current events- and of course, answer tons of random burning questions i've had. (If only I could use the Google Assistant natively on my iPhone!!) It's become second nature to casually say "Hey Google," as if i'm speaking to a friend or family member in my house- and receiving almost an immediate answer. I can control my lights and thermostat with a simple "Goodnight," or "Good Morning" while laying in bed- and since i've been getting up early lately, I can remain in my cozy bed in the evening and say softly "Hey Google, wake me up at 5:45 please," to be woken up right on time the next morning by the pleasant chimes of the Home's alarm. Google Home has no issues hearing me from across my house or while playing music, even if i'm speaking at a normal volume. The only time I have to raise my voice slightly is when I have music playing full blast, and i'm in the far opposite corner of my home. So far, it has been much more reliable than my Echo. There is one area where the Echo has a leg up on Google Home (for now)- third-party integration. As of right now, Amazon's "Alexa" service is compatible with quite a few more products and services. But again, that truly is "for now." Google has already announced third party access for developers, and from what i've read, the developer community is more than ready to jump onboard this new platform. I would not be surprised if Google was already outpacing Amazon in useful applications and integrations for Google Home by Spring 2017. While we can expect both smart assistants to expand their usefulness and intelligence over time, I see Google's lower-priced and better designed product as having way more potential than the Echo. (Nothing against the Echo line- it's an excellent collection of products that are near to my heart, and i'm still keeping mine (for now), but Google has the potential and A.I. power to really outdo the competition, including the Echo.) If you're trying to decide between the two, or are even just curious about the product in general- don't hesitate, grab this one!

I was born in the 90's. I remember running around outside and playing with my toy airplanes and watching cheesy Sci Fi movies on TV. I also remember wishing that I could have a remote control aircraft that was affordable and appropriate for a 7 year old. Well, flash forward to 2017. Quadcopters are all the rage and they are available at any price point you want. What's also available is the Google Home. This isn't a product that you would think is completely revolutionary, but it is. Alot of people only use some of its core functions like playing music or asking what the weather is, but if you have enough Smart Home devices you can actually operate most of your electronics via voice. It's pretty cool to wake up and while your head is still on your pillow; tell Google to turn on the bedroom lights, turn on the coffee maker, and give you the latest news. The sky is the limit for this technology, and as more items become compatible we will soon be living in a world where Jean Luc Picard could also call home.
